    How to play Zombie Survival !

    I. Introduction

    What is Zombie Survival   ?

    Zombie Survival   is a Magic Online non-official multiplayer commander game format. It's a 3vs1 Survival Game where 3 players using commander decks will form the HUMAN TEAM against a horde of zombies ( ZOMBIE PLAYER). To fight each HUMAN will gain extra abilities from vanguard cards (you can choose 1 from 11 different vanguard cards).Each Vanguard card provide different starting life/hand size. The ZOMBIE will start with 6 cards and 24 life points. The first 3 turns HUMANS can't attack (it's time to set up defenses) and the ZOMBIE will not attack until all HUMANS get 3 turns. But be careful most zombies are free, have haste and will attack every turn if possible. Every time ZOMBIE player plays a spell he will gain 2 life points and if a zombie deals damage to you they will search for a random zombie from the deck. The game have 2 Nuclear bombs that will clean the field(except lands) 1 will activate when ZOMBIE's life goes 20 or less and the other when ZOMBIE's life points goes 60 or more. The game ends when all HUMAN/ZOMBIE are 0 or  21 or more commander damage is dealt to ZOMBIE.

    How to play? 

    The HUMANS need to build a Commander deck (following the official commander deck construction) with 99 + 1 vanguard card (Deck stucture will be: MAIN DECK: 99 cards + 1 vanguard card + SIDEBOARD: "your general").

    The ZOMBIE must HOST the game. So the other 3 players will be the HUMAN team. The game will be hosted at MULTIPLAYER ROOM and with description  Zombie Survival  Join here! it's a FREEFORM VANGUARD game.

    If you are the ZOMBIE player you will need to host the game. To create a  ZOMBIE SURVIVAL  game  you will need:

    1. At MULTIPLAYER ROOM create a NEW GAME.
    2. TYPE: FREEFORM VANGUARD and PLAY STRUCTURE: COMMANDER.
    3. Load your "Zombie Survival" deck.
    4. COMMENT: " 4 Players ZOMBIE SURVIVAL Join here!"
    5. It's recommended the OPTION: ONLY BUDDIES CAN JOIN because sometimes other vanguard players join the ZOMBIE SURVIVAL game without know what is it or by mistake.

    Game Rules:

    • HUMANS will have the first 3 turns to set up defenses.
    • HUMANS can't attack ZOMBIE during the first 3 turns.
    • ZOMBIE can't attack HUMANS until all the HUMANS got 3 turns. (because that some HUMANS would have 1 extra turn safe).
    • ZOMBIE can't destroy or target HUMANS permanents during the first 3 turns.
    • The game have 2 Nuclear Bombs (Nuke) that will destroy all the other permanents (except lands) and MUST be activated by ZOMBIE when one of the following conditions are reach:
      • Nuke = Ashling, the Extinguisher Show
      • 1 Nuke will be activated during ZOMBIE's turn Main Phase1 if the ZOMBIE's Life Points is 20 or less and the ZOMBIE have 5 at least lands.
      • 1 Nuke will be activated during ZOMBIE's turn Main Phase 1 if the ZOMBIE's Life Points is 60 or less and the ZOMBIE have at least 5 lands

        • The ZOMBIE must activate the Nuke during the start of Main Phase 1 if during the End of his Upkeep His/Her Life Points is 20 or less or 60 or more and have or will have at least 5 lands during this turn. It must be the first thing to do during the start of Main Phase 1 and He/She can't play other spells before activate the Nuke effect.
        • The ZOMBIE can only activate the Nuke effect if he/she have at least 5 lands when the conditions are reach and only during Main Phase 1. 
        • If the ZOMBIE reach the Life Points conditions but don't have at least 5 lands he/she CAN'T PLAY SPELLS and must play "Zombie Lands"(see description later at Zombie  Player Topic) from his hand if it's possible until he/she reachs at least 5 lands to activate the Nuke.
        • If ZOMBIE's Life Points reach the Nuke conditions after His/Her Main Phase 1 He/She  can't activate it during Main Phase 2 and can't cast other spells during Main Phase 2. 
                              Example Show

          • During the End of ZOMBIE's Upkeep he/she have 62 Life Points and have only 4 lands and no cards in his hand. If he/she doesn't have any black card in his/her hand but draws or returned a black card during his/her Upkeep He/She must play it as a "Zombie Land" (if it's possible) until He/She reachs at least 5 lands.
          • During the End of ZOMBIE's Upkeep he/she have 62 Life Points and have no permanents on the field and no cards in hand. If he draws a Black Spell He/She must play it as a "Zombie Land" until He/She have 5 lands.

        • If ZOMBIE reaches Nuke Life Points conditions and don't have enought lands to use it, played all the "Zombie Lands" He/She could but During His/Her next turns He/She no longer reachs the Life Points Conditions He/She doesn't need to activate or play by the Nuke conditions. 
                        Example Show

          • ZOMBIE's Life Points is 20 or less and He/She doesn't have enought lands to cast the Nuke. ZOMBIE plays one black spell as a "Zombie Land" and pass the turn. But during HUMANS turn ZOMBIE's life is increased to 22 Life Points by the effect of a spell or ability. During the ZOMBIE's Next Turn Upkeep His/Her Life is 22 and He/She doesn't have to play the Nuke or neither by the Nuke condition.
          • ZOMBIE's Life Points is 60 or more and He/She doesn't have enought lands to cast the Nuke. ZOMBIE plays one black spell as a "Zombie Land" and pass the turn. But during HUMANS turn ZOMBIE's life is decreased to 56 Life Points by the effect of a spell,ability or attack. During the ZOMBIE's Next Turn Upkeep His/Her Life is 56 and He/She doesn't have to play the Nuke or neither by the Nuke condition. 


    • The game ENDS when:

      • All HUMANS or ZOMBIE's Life Points are 0.
      • 21 or More damage is dealt to ZOMBIE by a general/commander.


    II. The Human Player Vanguard Cards

    What is a Vanguard Card?

    Vanguard cards
    were designed to modify the game giving to it's OWNER different Life Points, Starting/Maximum Hand Size and New abilities. Example Show

    For HUMAN the Vanguard Cards represents their own personality and style of play. Some players like to play defense, others offensive and other will suport other players. To survive you will need to make a good balance between your deck and your vanguard card. You can choose 1 of the following vanguard cards to add to your commander deck:

    III. Game Rules

    Banned Cards:

     
    Rules: 

    • You can't cast more than 1 "EXTRA TURN" SPELL per turn and can't cast "EXTRA TURN" SPELLS during your EXTRA TURN.
    •  Creatures with INFECT can't atk ZOMBIE PLAYER (you can still defend with them but NOT ATK). 
    • ZOMBIE PLAYER can't be the target of Mindslaver .
    • Infinity Combos/Loop Combo are not allowed (it's a for Fun game NOT a: I MUST WIN GAME)
    • If a Player cast a Combo that creates infinity number of tokens. The casting Player can only create tokens until He/She have tokens equal to the number of creatures ZOMBIE control.
    • If a Player cast a Combo that creates infinity mana. The casting Player can only repeat the loop equal to the number of Lands ZOMBIE controls.



    IV. Zombie Deck


    This Topic is for the ZOMBIE Player.


    Who is the ZOMBIE Player?
     
    The ZOMBIE player will be the archenemy of all the HUMANS. You will be Master of all the Zombies. You can summon mostly zombies for free, you can make choices to spread the zombie infestation and you will be responsible of zombies win or lost. But mostly zombies are brainless, you will be able to summon them but you won't be able to choose the attack targets (see the topic "How the Zombie Player attacks") and you will be the carrier of the Nuclear Bombs (Nukes) to clean the field.

    Who can be the ZOMBIE Player?

    To be the ZOMBIE PLAYER you will need to know the following rules:

    1. Have 1 Zombie Survival Deck.
    2. You will need to Host the Zombie Survival Game. (see the previous topic to know how to Host Zombie Survival Game).
    3. Don't be rude with other players.
    4. Know all the game rules.
    5. Play until the Game Overs (don't conced if you are losing)
    6. Don't cheat the Nukes rules.
    7. Don't cheat the Random Attack Rules.


    How to Play?

    • The Deck Engine:
    The Deck Engine works with the following Vanguard cards:

    •  Ashling, the Extinguisher Show
       

      • The 2 Ashling, the Extinguisher will provide the 2 Nukes of the game.


      • The 1 Dakkon Blackblade will provide the "Zombie Lands" (see next topic to know more about the "Zombie Lands"). You will use the Zombie Lands to pay the (incolor mana of the Zombie Creatures Spells) and to play the Non-creature spells.

    • Higure, the Still Wind Show
       

      • The 1 Higure, the Still Wind will provide the "Zombie Infestation". (Every time a Zombie creature deals combat damage to a Player It will search for random zombie creature from the deck. It's the Zombie Infestation!) 


      • The 3 Nekrataal will provide the Free Mana to cast the "regular Zombies creatures" and the Full black mana zombies creatures. Full Black Mana Creature Example Show


      • The 1 Oni of Wild Places will provide Haste to your creatures (Your zombies will attack every turn if it's possible). During your upkeep you must return 1 creature to your hand (it's a advantage/drawback depending of the game situation).


      • The 1 Serra Angel will provide the Life gain to play against the Human Team.


      • The 1 Viridian Zealot will provide the game balance. It can sounds a strange choice but it's the best way to deal with cards like Moat without banning a lot of cards. For some players it can looks powerfull but it's balanced because you will need to think between cast a spell or destroy 1 artifact/enchantment. And the Nukes can't deal with 3 players running " Moat " and recursion.


    • What are the Zombie Lands?
    Zombie Lands are Black Spells turned into Lands by  Dakkon Blackblade Show

    They are called Zombie Lands because they mostly are Zombies turned into Swamps. And if the Zombie Lands are destroyed or returned to hand they will return to be the card they were before. Example Show
    If a Diregraf Ghoul turned into a Zombie Land is destroyed by a Demolish it will be sent as a creature.

    You will need the Zombie Lands to pay the costs of your spells and you will have to choose what will be turned into a zombie land.

    • How to cast ZOMBIE Spells?

      • Use Zombie Lands to pay the casting cost of Creatures and other spells.
      • You don't need to pay the creatures  (black mana). Youl will only need to pay the (incolor mana) of the creature. Example Show
        Vengeful Dead - You will only to pay the mana cost.
      • You will need to pay the full casting cost of non-creature spells. Example Show
        Call to the Grave - You will need to pay the  casting cost to play Call to the Grave.


    • How the ZOMBIE attacks?
     To make the game fair and respect the "brainless zombie flavor" the ZOMBIE's attack will be random and decided by Dice Rolls. The Die Number of each HUMAN will be decided by clockwise direction HUMANS Die Number Example Show
     

    When the game starts you will need to inform the players their Die Numbers. Example Show
    "ZOMBIE's attacks will be random and decided by dice rolls".
    "Player A" will be the numbers 1-2, "Player B" numbers 3-4 and "player C" numbers 5-6.


    To do the random dice rolls I use the site Roll Dice Online. Roll Dice Online Example Show

      • Number of sides = 6
      • Number of dice to roll = equal to the number of creatures enable to attack.
      • Number of rolls = maintain 1
    Roll the Dice during Begin Combat Phase. Choose Number of dice roll equal to the number of creatures enable to attack.Them post the results to the other players. To order the attacking creatures choose them from Left to Right. Example Show


    • The ZOMBIE Deck

    • The Deck Choices
     
      • Diregraf Ghoul are the regular zombies. They represents the slow zombies from the old Zombie Horror movies. They are free to cast but can't attack the turn they come into play.
      • The other zombies are the fast zombies from the recent Zombie movies, they are fast and some are smarts.
      • The other spells are cards that represents the zombie flavor of the game or have something that represents the dead returning.

    • How to Customize the Deck
     
    The Zombie Survival Deck is customizable you can always change some cards but need at least use some rules construction:

      • Maintain the Vanguard Cards
      • Maintain the 100 cards deck
      • Try to maintain the Zombie Creatures at least 85 or more cards
      • Use 35 or more Diregraf Ghoul they are the regular zombies and are balanced to both sides.
      • Except for Diregraf Ghoul use only 1 copy of other Zombies Spells and Other cards.
      • Except for Grave Titan only use Zombie creatures for deck construction.
      • For the Non-Zombie Spells try to use cards that represents the Death/Dead/Zombie flavor.
      • Don't use combinations of extremely powerful cards for non-zombie spells like No Mercy + Akroma's Memorial + Eldrazi Monument + Door of Destinies . Try to balance the entire deck to don't make the game extremely difficult.
