Guys, I have been having an excellent time these past few days messing around with the VT, both playing and DMing. I have NOT played any other virtual table package out there yet, I have nothing to compare. I sure do love VT however. I can't wait to get playing regular AND random pickup games on the VT! You're going to have a blast when this goes live!
Tah Dah!

That's wonderful news!! I had read about you betatesting the VT, but I wasn't sure about the results. Very good. Question: does it require live action? I mean, is there a way (as of now) to run a game by making a few moves, then saving and resuming maybe the same round or even turn after a hours or days? I think this is very important, because our group is literally scattered among four continents at four corners of the word (I'm from Italy, the DM is from Peru, the others are from South Africa and USA), so it's quite difficult to coordinate a session!

I don't really have an answer for you. The application is not meant for something like PbP. Rather, it replicates a live session.
I think there are ways to do what you want to do, but I think you'd be better off just with some Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint maps.

Well we can always use PbP for most of the time and then VT for big combat encounters!! After all, our DM's major difficulty was tracking everything about the PbP when we entered the thick of combat.
EDIT: In your opinion, is there a way for us to enter the beta? Two, three people.

All D&D Insiders will be getting invited. They are doing it in waves to make sure they have the infrastructure that can handle the stress (this is very common with beta testing). In fact, they're running a big event this weekend which is designed to get a lot of people online at once and allows them to stress test. I'd expect the next wave to be going out very soon.
I don't know HOW I ended up getting invited to the Friends and Family level of testing. Maybe trying to have nice posts, even when being critical, helped. Or, I just got lucky on a random roll - who knows.

In short. . sort of.
The Virtual Tables saves the chat, position, and everything involved at the time it is closed. However, players cannot just log into it at random times and make a move. the DM has to be online. So, if the players can meet up, say once a week, for 30 minutes, then it is possible to play for 30 minutes, then log out and save the table for next week. The main problem here, is that to play on a table, you need a pass. Right now, Beta testers can request passes for free, and no one is sure how it is going to work once it goes live. If it turns out that you have to pay a dollar or two for a pass (each pass currently gives you 12 hours of consecutive play time on a table, whether you use it all or not), you'd be paying that same amount for 30 minutes of play time, because the clock continues to run after you've logged out.
So yes.. you can sort of play in short blocks, here and there.

A new round of invites are supposed to go out this afternoon!
Edit: about 1000 Beta signer-uppers and around 3000 DDI subscribers were added this afternoon. Anyone among you all that made the cut?
