Feed Zend_Feed_Writer 1.10.8 (http://framework.zend.com) http://community.wizards.com/wotc_kelly From the Editor - 1/15/10 Hello, and welcome to what I intend to be a weekly feature here in the Wizards Community, a chance for me to talk directly to you instead of carefully inserting secret messages into articles. (Kidding!)

As magicthegathering.com has grown and changed, we've added a lot of cool stuff. But we've also gotten away from the cozy, face-to-face feel that the site often had in years past—a trend that serves us (and you) increasingly poorly in the Age of Twitter, and one that was always a little bit at odds with the kind of site this is meant to be.

Why and how that shift happened is a little complicated, but the short version is that I wasn't sure where the line was, and as a result I chose to draw it conservatively (without even realizing I was doing so). Now that I've taken on a more central role in planning and executing the site's editorial vision, I want to revisit that issue. (Besides, I hardly get any face time at all since I stopped writing Serious Fun.)

I'm going to use this space two different ways. First, I'd like to address issues directly relating to Daily MTG—the editorial choices I make, the things we've got upcoming, and my opinions and yours about the site that don't relate directly to any one article. Second, I'll get into my personal opinions and experiences about the game, observations and calls to action for the Magic web, and perhaps even broader thoughts about gaming, pop culture, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

Let me get one set of questions/complaints out of the way: I don't edit the whole web site, just Daily MTG. I can't really comment on the MTGO page or Gatherer or whatever, because other people spend a lot of time making those sites. I also don't make the game, my occasional stints on design teams and flavor text squads not withstanding, so I can't kill Jund or bring back Squirrels (neither of which, incidentally, I would do). Anything you read here that isn't specifically concerned with my job is purely my own opinion, and I'll mostly avoid commenting on the jobs of others.

I'll stop there, since this is about as long as I'm hoping to run each week. For feedback, I'll stick with: Who's reading this? Is it interesting? Are there particular topics you'd like to see me tackle?
