I don't like Alignment restriction for dragons or Genies... it's up DM what use or Aligment he wants his Dragon or Genie have.... been always against Aligment Restriction for those creatures....
and why is Shadow Dragon always Chaotic evil???? it like copy paste some kinde of Black Dragon again.... but if we said that Shadow dragon usually are of neutrall aligment then we will have a very interesting Dragon race.... after all the plane of Shadow are a neutrall plane... it's mortal denizens...

I agree. Alignment has been part of the rules for a long time and should continue to be in the rules. And DMs have always ignored any rule that they didn't like so if some DM doesn't like alignment they don't have to use it, but the rest of us want it in the game.

Today I find that I am more disliking the poll questions then the editorial itself. I like some things, if not most, but the poll questions do not compensate for that. I get to tell you whether i hate them or like them or in between, but not a way to state which parts i like. So, unless i write something, my vote can be interpreted incorrectly. All that would be needed is to add in one or two more poll questions to see what i did or did not like to get a more focused answer would have been...

As someone who really likes the concept of golems, and constructs in general, I would really like to see them become more flexible for campaign use. If not specially "Golems" it would be nice to have a range of constructs across a wide range of levels.
I feel like just lifting the 3e ones is a waste of potential for something better. For example, how often is the berserker rage of clay and flesh golems really relevant to gameplay? It's only really there to be an obstruction for PCs that...

What is wrong with using the term "skills"? And why does it seem like the developers think it's a detrimental word to the game? I want my character to have skills. I want them to be good at things and I want it to be more varied than how my character's attributes represent.

Just downloaded playtest on 12-15-12 browsed through the whole packet. I noticed a disturbing trend to go back to mage out of spells way of spell casting, then i read the section on the expertise pool and how it works and its general purpose, the first thought that came to me right afterwords was it sounds like a spellcasting system so why are we not using it for all classes. wizards instead of getting static damage spells could go dynamic using the expertise system and the level as the fighter...

I am not sure I will go through with it; I was just brainstorming. I was going for a noirish type of set up.
I like demons as primal spirits, because there is a surplus of bad guy elemental types (giants, efrets, archons), not enough primal spirit bad guys, and Balors aside, they don't look very elemental. Besides, the notion that nature is out of whack has some storytelling potential.

Ultimately, I'd like to see this edition tread lightly with setting dependent material. This includes things like the social details of races, languages and the like. A lot of this material is OK for a 'default setting', but some thought should go into how this will interact with setting material.
This is a general comment that extends to PC things like race fluff, language, and alignment.

The only thing I really don't like about the stat block is the average damage stat. I guarantee I will never use that rule, and it will only get in my way. I'd prefer that you stick with the old school damage dice plus modifiers only.

For me Goblins should be like the ones depicted as in the Magic the Gathering universe.
For the little ones, The Goblin Marauder, Goblin War Strike or Goblin Psychopath by Pete Venters, maybe like The Goblin Brawler by Heather Hudson or The Goblin Warchief by Tim Hildebrandt,
One of my favorites is the painting art for the "Goblin Elite Infantry" by Robert Bliss. They look mean and badass! Long pointy ears with long and sharp nose; guess this model would fill the Hobgoblin, just add...

I suspect the disparity between racial ability score boosts will accelerate power creep. Nonhuman races will inevitably get mechanical options that are better than Human options, in order to “balance” the races better. But then the Human will use the better Nonhuman options as a baseline for new Human options. And the armsraces soar up from there.
      October 4, 2012 5:27 AM PDT
Giving humans a blanket +1 to ability scores is a pathetic attempt to pander to Pathfinder power gamers. The way they're described it would be more appropriate to give them a +1 to Charisma, and go back to the extra skill or feat rationale of Third Edition*.
On a related note, allowing elves to roll Perception with advantage is a little more than saying they're not often surprised. That, especially combined with the fact that low-light vision is overpowered for them and underpowered for...

I don't like the hierarchy bit, but other than that, I like this.
      September 29, 2012 9:29 PM PDT
This is exactly as I recall the 2E giants. That's neither inherently good nor bad. Also, my memory of 2E is as old as the edition, so there may be some false recall. I like this history/ecology for nostalgia reasons. On the other hand, I'm not sure we need all this hierarchy across the giant subraces. I think the older editions ensconced much of the fauna in needless structure. It's like designing an entire universe on the fundamental attribution error ...

In the first playtest packet, it was mentioned under "magic attacks" on the pre-generated wizard character. In the more recent playtest packet, the pre-generated wizard does not seem to get that bonus, as his magic missile damage is listed as 1d4+1 (not 1d4+4).

"Keep in mind that we’re still working out these mechanics, but we’d also like it if a player could choose how many spells of the various frequencies to memorize. Want to play a 4E-style wizard? Prepare some spells that refresh after 10 minutes, some spells that don’t come back until the end of the day, and some spells that you can cast at-will. Want to play a classic pure-1E-style wizard? Only prepare spells that refresh at the end of the day."
Music to my ears. This was the one thing,...

I really like the idea of the "cursed (or blessed) cultist". However, I do not like the idea of these things banding together. One minotaur would be the leader of a rag-tag band of lesser followers (goblins?). A minotaur should be a ferocious beast that commands attention.

Pretty good—I like the story here, but I would tweak it in specific ways. (Comments!)
yikaria, introduced in the Al-Qadim setting in 2nd Edition. Also called yak-men (or, unfortunately, yak-folk) they even enslaved the Dao Genies...
we want them to be seperated from minutarous also we need more fact about the enslavement of the Daos and how many years have it gone sence the contract began ... i mean the contract says that daos are slaves of Yikaria in 1001 years.... and will it be a...

I like a big dumb ogre as much as the next guy, but the occasional cunning ogre makes for great story telling. Someone has to lead the band/tribe.
I am totally OK with ogre mages being a separate thing, but they should be a subspecies of ogre, related to onis but not 100% identical there either. Possibly born as ogres under great auspices.

Ogre magi aren't that difficult if you make one slight tweak: they act like Sorcerers instead of Wizards. Their powers are innate and come from practice & natural skill, rather than education.

This is something i totally agree with. another post mentioned splitting different spells up between different classes, but then you need all those classes to cover every magic need. Letting people do different things via flavor, makes the spells seem entirely different
      February 10, 2013 6:35 PM PST
I dont think the core rules need to give you that much flavor. Building a mechanic that lets you build your own background is much better. The fighter maneuvers and monk ki abilities are a great example. You can either chose ones that you like, or just pick and chose and slowly build your own fighting styles. By giving a base set of spells and abilites that all of that class has(set spell list) and then encounter powers that build your story.

gnolls are one of my favorite threats as a DM.but the ultimate is giant wasps that try killing the characters to feed to there young.
      December 16, 2012 10:42 PM PST
In my opinion, there are a few things the wrong with this gnoll; a) the little braids near the ear, need to go, this is, in a sense, a bipedal, humanoid hyena, so the ear hair, looks unnatural, b) they need to look dumb, but not like Quasimodo, the hunchback thing is weird and awkward, it needs to look hyena like, so have their back straighter, but give them sloping shoulders, c) their knees do not ALWAYS have to be bent, they are humanoids, so give them something that says 'feral' without...
