If you're interested in map-making, I just posted a new tutorial on how to create a forest pattern in Gimp. The tutorial also gives you instructions for how to use the pattern to "paint in" forested areas on a map you are making in Gimp.
I've also posted the next installment in my adaptation of Butch Curry's video tutorials on making maps in Adobe Photoshop (my version uses Gimp). I've mentioned this before in a previous blog post. You can find my Gimp tutorials in the "Tutorials/How-To" forum on the Cartographers' Guild site (the same forum the above linked tutorial is in).
My computer issues are now resolved, so I hope to have more content to post soon.
