Urtikor's blog listings. Feed Zend_Feed_Writer 1.10.8 (http://framework.zend.com) http://community.wizards.com/urtikor The ultimate sandbox experience? After a long break, just about a month and a half ago, I decided to try my hand at being a dungeon master once more. I made a post in the local fantasy community internet forums searching for people who want to play Dungeons & Dragons and surprisingly enough, just in a week or so, five people responded to my post.

After discussing the details with the players, knowing that I already have a group and all of my work won't be for nothing, I began crafting my own world of adventure and conflict. Without going into detail, the main plot was about the rising tension between an ancient kingdom and a powerful alliance of dukes which were still at odds after a seemingly forgotten war.

More then a month later and a few sessions into the game, everything was going fine and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. During that time I got a couple of messages regarding my post in the forum from more people interested to play Dungeons & Dragons. With basically enough people for a second group, I was ready to start making another campaign, but then it came to me, why can't I just have two groups in the same world at once?

With the opportunity of the ultimate Dungeons & Dragons sandbox experience in mind, I started developing the conflicts in my world in a way where everything has more than just one viewpoint and the actions of one party affect not only the world itself, but the situation of the other group of player characters as well.

Thinking more about it, I realized having two groups of players in the same world would not only make the game so much more interesting, but that even joined sessions were a possibility. What would be the outcome of two groups of characters coming together in the game? On what terms would they meet? Would they be working together for a common purpose or would they be the greatest challenge to each other they have ever faced?

I still don't have the answers to all of these questions and it will probably be determined by the players and the choices they make, though one thing is for certain, it's going to be epic!
