About This Group

UnCon (Unconventional Convention) is a week long festival held here on the boards. Games, contests, special guest chats, and other such features are prominent through the days. It's a time for bringing out your gaming skills and showing those around you whose number one. Or just to have fun. :D

This group is dedicated to preparing that event. Contests need to be made, events need to be organized, prizes need to be arranged, and so on. If you'd like to partake in the organization of this event, please request to join and describe how you can help.

    UnCon's Existence

I suggest creating an UnCon 2009 Group, with each thread in the group forum linking to the various threads around the boards. Or do the opposite, and have threads in various parts of the forums link to contest threads that will be held in said group.... more

Information? Anyone? I'd like to host a contest and get some info on prizes, but royk has started an UnCon contest thread in casual... That makes it seem like everything's set in stone. However, I can't find anything even put in clay.

Well hopefully things can be worked out to provide UnCon this year. Something like this should have ease the transition. Make it feel like home so to speak.

Yeah, I'd like a forum as well. Also, how is this, exactly, going to work for groups with minimal members? Are we going to get increased traffic from publicity or are we just going to have to make do with what we have?

I would also like to see UnCon still held. My community worked for a while on developing the event we were planning on hosting and I'm hoping UnCon will garner some much needed traffic to not only my group - but also to the other PbP groups that were planning events. Like Garic's City - the Core Coliseum had prizes planned that were associated with continuing to play in the forum - which is ultimately the goal for the CoCo's involvement in the UnCon. If it is to be cancelled - I would like to have some avenue to advertise the CoCo's event as a standalone (and other PbP groups who might be inclined to do the same) - so that we still gain some benefit from the planning.

Echoing the forum sentiment. As for prizes, I'm going to create some IC benefits for winners. Possibly a small XP bonus for the character of a winner, the creation of an NPC based on an UnCon character (one of the contest ideas I have is for the contestants to create a treatise/lesson/exhortation as delivered in-character by an instructor from a guild or organisation, contestant's choice), being mentioned in the annals of a guild or the city. Nothing really meaningful for posters who won't set foot in Garic's again after UnCon, but the idea is to encourage people to return anyway. And if we create an Uncon group, we can have a Hall of Fame or something similar to immortalize winners. Short of badges, we could also create a plaque of sorts, an image proclaiming someone's achievement they can put in their sig if they want (do sigs allow images at the moment?). Even if we don't have the standard prizes people got accustomed to that doesn't mean we can't come up with something else worthwhile.
