Now, I haven't used Reddit much at all, but from what little I do know RPG Stackexchange is a lot like Reddit, just for RPG stuff.  People post questions, those questions get ranked higher (or lower) by other users, and people post anwers (which are also ranked higher or lower).

There's also a reputation system in place. Users cannot vote posts up or down until they have a certain level of reputation. And that reputation only increases if you ask good questions and give good answers.

Post Christmas, Christmas RPG Many years back I purchased a PDF version of The Secret LIves of Gingerbread Men by Annie Rush, and for years my gaming group has been bugging me to run it. But with how busy pre-Christmas can get, I never had time to prep for the game until Christmas was over. So shortly before Ukranian Christmas, we finally got to play..

It's an interesting RPG in that it requires you to have candy and gingerbread people in order to play: your "mini" is a 1:1 representation of your character. Candies represent tools your gingerbread man/woman can use, and they can have up to 12 candies on them at the start of the adventure. Yellow M&Ms cause a bright flash of light, candy corn kernels can be sharpened and used as a knife (candy shiv?), red hots create fire, and so on.

Character creation uses no dice at all. Instead it's icing sugar and candies, to outfit your character, followed by a short character background writeup and picking a "secret" for the gingerbread man. We ignored the background creation and secrets as we were only playing a one-off adventure.

The rules are extremely simple. For every advantage a character has, roll a d6. Advantages can be almost anything, but a gingerbread man always gets at least a d6 just for existing. If you use a tool, that's another advantage. If something in the environment can help, add another. Then roll your dice and count the number of dies that come up even. Each even die is a success, each odd a failure. The narrator rolls as well, using the same rules for advantages. Whomever has the higher number of successes wins.

Pretty simple stuff really. While it doesn't explicitly say it, the game feels very much like it was written to be played with kids. But that didn't stop us from having fun with it!

So, next Christmas, if you're looking for a good, seasonally appropriate RPG to play, that's very light on rules, and a bit heavier on the story creation, I'd highly recommned The Secret Lives of Gingerbread Men. PDFs and hard copy versions can be found at Annie's Lulu page.

Hovel Completed another papercraft model last night:

This time around I built one of the free models from Fantasy Cutouts. Their style is quite a bit different from World Works and Fat Dragon. It's a lot more 'toony and colourful than what you usually see for papercraft and I'm really digging it.

It was a fun process, but it wasn't as easy as the Fat Dragon models I've done previously. The instructions weren't quite as detailed and it was very difficult to determine which side needed to be scored. Though that wouldn't stop me from buying from them though.
