Curse of the Spider Queen -Campaign Synopsis

    Wednesday, August 18, 2010, 5:14 AM

    Campaign Story:           Dark Companions

Act I:                            Curse of the Spider Queen

The Spellplague has touched every part of the world of the world of Faerûn the Underdark included.  There are those how would stand out i the darkness and rise to be the heros of this time.  Leading the forces of light to make positive changes in these dark days are various orders of surviving Swordmages.  Though there are those who believe that their movitves are questionable it is with one such swordmage, Balthasar Eckhardt that our story begins.

Balthasar Eckhardt has been marked by the will of the Spider Queen; her agents sent to descend upon him and bring him into her web.  Viktor a drow ranger, who possesses an uncanny ability to track in the surface world, has become an unlikely tool of the Spider Queen. Though his own allegances were in question he to was cursed by Lolth and given to the hands of Sindri Sy_zier a drow noble who would lead the raiding party to the surface world and drive their prey back into the demon webs.  But Balthasar was not alone, accompanied by Jaren Moonsong a half-elf bard the two were ill equiped to deal with the onslaught of the drow raiding party.  But takeing the two back to the Underdark would be more difficult that merely defeating them, to ensure their prize in tow they too would be adorned by the curse of the Spider Queen her influence forcing them to their own doom.

After weeks of traveling through secret tunnels leading to the home of the drow, Sindri knew that something was amiss.  There were no guards at their post and the gates had been blasted wide open.  Quite inspection revealed the compound and been attacked and all of its inhabitants slaughtered.  Now a fugitive in his own city the noble knowing that as the sole surviving noble of his house he would be a target for assassination.  With control over the ranger and his captives he led them back into the shallows of the Underdark where the drows’ influence was not as strong to give him time to plot his next move.

    The Underdark

    Thursday, July 29, 2010, 9:05 AM

So I am on the cusp of starting my campaign into the Underdark for my 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons campaign.  I had intended to start over a month ago but personal affairs have forced a delay.

For those who have seen my galleries, and or perhaps followed my posts in the past, have noticed that I run my games a part from the norm of the RPG groups.  I like to play on a large table in a fashion very similar to Table top wargames....  Admittedly it is a little over kill, and I have not always play in this fashion.  But the advantage that I get from this type of game play is that I can set up a large table prior to my players getting to my place and saves me a lot of would be game time of moving the board around and or drawing maps.  Also the experience of playing on 3d terrain is a total blast. But I digress this to get back to my top the Underdark.

I have built a massive carven table to accommodate the adventures that are soon to encompass my players for what I hope will be months to come.  I have a basic story arc which I have prepared, and my approach to this is very similar to the many shows that we watch on TV every night.  I am looking at my players as the main characters of this themed story but for the moment I am leaving a lot of it open for I want to see what the players will actually focus on once they start playing.  There is nothing worse then to prepare tons of material and see the players completely uninterested in what the DM though and go off on some unrelated topic.

So now to the purpose of this post.  I am looking to see how many other people have run games solely based in the Underdark?

What was your main focus?  Was it hunting for treasure….   Fame, fortune, where the characters on the run from someone or something that forced them into the dark recesses of Faerun?

How many people have made the Drow the central focus of their game before?

What I am really looking is to see how much of what I am doing has been done before.  It would be poor form for me to give away too many of my plans on here for I know my players read my posts :P  and I don’t want to give away too many of my surprises.  But at the same time I think I can improve what is already going to be an epic campaign by have a large tool box of ideals to draw upon as the game continues.

So lets see how many people will read this posting and help generate some ideals as to what makes the underdark.
