I've never really played a serious game of D&D, but I'm interested. I need someone to tell me what to buy, etc.

well you probably want to start off with a player's handbook that will give you all you need to know to play... then you just need to find a group of friends or others to play with of course or you can pick up a "starter's set" for like 16-20$ that contains enough of the rules to get you started, it has mini player's & dungeon master's guides, a set of dice and some of the tiles used in the game now, everything to do your first adventure which is also included (though there are NOT rules for making your own charecters, you have to use the included premade ones you can get everything you need at Fallout Comics Tallahassee, FL, 32301 and they are wicked friendly and helpful

Thanks. I was able to get a PDF with starter's rules off the internet for free, and you're right, there are no rules for creating characters.
I guess what I really need is a group. Do you know of any other internet forums for finding a group? This one seems pretty barren right now.

i dont know of any, yeah i was directed to this via facebook but seems pretty dead, i know if you check out any local comic shop they have boards with postings for groups
i dont actually currently play D&D, havent in a very long time, just recently got interested in it again trying to turn my son onto it
