White Weenies is a classic archetype. It is also one of my absolute favorite archetypes. I figured if I'd venture into competitive Modern, I'd take my Trusty Sword. The speed at which this deck can generate threats, pump them, then bash face is astonishing, to say the least. [c]AEther Vial[/c] allows me to deploy threats without, or after, tapping down, and allows me to cheat [c]Serra Avenger[/c] into play early. The bulk of the curve sits at two, so I can get away with leaving Vial's charge counters at two, while only playing 18 lands. [c]Windbrisk Heights[/c] lets me cheat even more things into play, as I frequently attack with three or more creatures in any given turn. Plenty of evasion is inherent in the creatures, with [c]Mirran Crusader[/c] slicing through Black and...

I have a confession to make. I am not good at balancing power. I'm too much of a Spike. So, rather than choose sub-optimal cards to keep my deck from rolling over my friends, I dispersed the consistency of the high-end buy using 1 or 2 copies of the more powerful cards, while keeping the core Weenies as 4-ofs. Also, I cut [c]Aether Vial[/c] and [c]Mother of Runes[/c] for the time being to slow the deck down a little and to keep it from being too resilient. This is a casual White Weenies build that is fun and varied, while at the same time swift and powerful. Effectiveness has been maintained, and it is affordable to boot! Here is my budget- and casual-friendly take on White Weenies: ThinkOriginal's Casual White Weenies [deck]19 Plains 1 Windbrisk Heights 4 Boros Elite 4 Elite ...

Out of all possible combos and synergies inherent to the game of Magic, my favorite of all time is Tax/Rack: [c]Land Tax[/c] + [c]Scroll Rack[/c].
Translated to Legacy, this engine can be built into one hell of a control deck. This deck has a name. "Parfait." With the best removal and silver-bullet enchantments in the game available to White, the layers of this deck, folded back repeatedly by the Rack, make this a parfait that is vey delicious. Tax/Rack = "I do not like this hand; I shall have another." An ideal opening play with this deck is a [c]Mox Diamond[/c], pitching a Plains, into [c]Land Tax[/c]. Using the Moxen, [c]Ghost Quarter[/c], [c]Zuran Orb[/c] and even the awesome removal of [c]Path to Exile[/c], the game plan is to ensure the activation of [c]Land Tax[/c]. With a hand full of...

When I've been playing other formats too much (is there such a thing?), I turn to Commander for a break from the ultra-competitive scene and routine grind that are the Standard Daily Events. I went with Dakkon Blackblade for this deck's general; not too flashy to be a removal magnet, but flavorful, powerful, and spanning colors that I'm used to. There is also a bit of a Human theme going on. Filled with tons of draw, removal, and sweepers, Dakkon can come out at his own pace and get up to awesome sizes. Lots of pathways for evasion and some powerful enhancements combine with plenty of ways to get more land drops and make my general even bigger. This is a powerful control deck without being too oppressive, and even has a few group-hug cards to keep the hate pointed in the...

I began this as a Standard interperatation of Modern Jund, but then, card by card, it shifted into a control deck. Lots of Instants and Sorceries for Snapcaster to flashback and many cheap ways to control, protect, and ultimately get out a Runechanter's Pike for a finishing strike, or a Duskmantle Seer/Geist of Saint Traft and protecting it. Ghost Quarter sits as a two-of in this deck, as more often than not I need to pop a Cavern of Souls, Nepahalia Drownyard, or Kessig Wolf Run. Not to mention, many decks - like my own - do not run any Basic Land at all, turning Ghost Quarter into a veritable Strip Mine. It's a Midrange deck that plays like a Control deck with lots of counters, removal, and bounce, yet utilizing almost all 3cmc-or-less spells to have qualities of a...

I love Zombies. I really do. But you can only play the same colors for so long without going crazy. So I'm switching it up. New colors, new archetype. Geist was a Christmas gift! This is a midrange version of the "Bant Enchant" or "Ih8life.dek" that is now very popular because of GP Atlantic City. Slower, but with a much larger top-end and more removal to give it gas. And for the top-end, I've added Sigarda, Host of Herons. Geist and Sigarda both have Hexproof, which is huge for enchanting. Ethereal Armor is the real star, as it feeds off of every non-creature spell in the deck. Oh, and Silverblade Paladin combos with almost everything in this deck as well. Fencing Ace is great as Aura-bait and for fending off aggro rushes. I've also added Elite Inquisitor; the addition... |
