Violet's Journal:
It’s a clear, bright winter’s morning and a mother and daughter are stoking the fire under theoven. The day is peaceful and the two have an important project to do; they are baking oatmealcookies. As the fire catches Violet goes to the pantry to get out the small bag of raisons, a special treat saved from last harvest. Misha smiles at her daughter’s obvious joy, and begins to laugh as the young girl skips over with her treasure. As the two begin mixing the batter they chat about their respective days schedules. Misha will be preparing to head out in the morning, the same as her husband Kyle. Both will be spending the afternoon preparing their gear and readying for their respective missions. Violet will be going over to Aunty Lori’s with a basket of cookies and a special brooch she is borrowing from Aunty Kira. Laurazhi will spend the afternoon with young Violet, teaching her about fashion and form. Once she had chosen an appearance, Laurazhi will help her garb herself with the magic brooch and they will have a grand tea together.

Violet pays attention as they form the cookies. She listens to her mother’s instructions, and pays attention as Misha discusses what she will need for her outing. Violet understand that her parents spend much time abroad to help others. Being a bright lass, she also knows this helps them stay together. Being born into a household where ethical debate rages, Violet has learned to pay attention to the love her parents have for each other, not the constant debate they hold with each other. Her moral compass is set by what she sees transpire between the two. Her mother’s constant advocacy for personal freedoms is balanced with her father’s uncompromising stance on the duty each has to society.

Today is a very special day for young Violet. A day she will always keep with her. It is a day of peace, a day of love, a day of friendship. It is a day when she can bake cookies with her mother. A day when she can share them with her father and those she loves. A day when she can break bread with her family and listen to her parent working together for a common cause. She knows each will be following a different motive in the morning, but they will be going as a team.

As the cookies are coming out of the oven, Violets father returns from the market. Still in her apron, she rushes to give him a hug as he brings in the fresh bread and meats he has picked up. Over a lunch of meat and cheese, bread and cookies, the whole family gathers to talk about what each of the children will be doing over the next few days. It is a happy time, one where peace reigns and love abounds.

Violet , a tall and lanky girl in her mid-teens, sits in a comfortable chair and reads in the temple of Ao in Greyhawk. As she studies, eyes full of love look down at her. Coming up quietly, Kira places a hand on the back of Violets chair and asks “Why the blond hair? You are with friends here, you may go as you are”. Violet looks up and smiles “Because wings don’t fit well in this chair and it is too comfy to read snuggled up in it”. Shaking her head and chuckling, Kira ponders aloud “I’ll never be use to you sitting in a cold room in your night shirt. I know cold doesn’t bother you, but it feels like it should. May the dawn bless you my child”. Violet smiles as Kira walks away and returns her attention to the story she is reading. Though a simple story, the ethics discussed are deep. Violet traces through the moral values of the story as she tries to grasp its true meaning. In the morning she will attend to her tasks before classes, but she would rather grasp the meaning before sleep.

Rain pours from a leaden sky as Violet tries to gain altitude. Her grey wings beat hard against the wind as she works to lift herself and the wounded farmer into the air. Arrows rise towards her, some connecting. She gets high enough that the archers below cannot reach them and she carries the wounded man southwards as quickly as she can. As she struggles, she is grateful she prepared bulls strength today. She is also grateful the man is not struggling and not too heavy. After crossing a ridge, she feels herself begin to weaken and heads quickly to ground. She heals the farmer and helps him flee further south, away from the marauders that had beset him. As they run she gives silent thanks to the one for allowing her to be here at this time, so that she may save another.

The ringing in her ears subsides as Violet uses a healing spell upon herself. Derrick words start to take meaning as she begins to understand the profuse flow of apologies coming from him. She allows him to help her to her feet and starts working her helmet off. Though only practice, the two of them both take their bouts seriously. As soon as she can get a word in edgewise she assures him it was simply an accident. His blow was intended to force her shield down. It was just poor timing on her part to drop it at that moment to try her feint. She can read on his face the reasons for his concern. His feelings for her are evident, and have been since the last harvest festival. His fear that hurting her will ruin his “Chance” with her. Also evident is his fear of what he is able to do. He knows she is very hard to hurt. The last is, in some ways, the most concerning for her. Derrick has fought beasts before and has done well. It is hard to emphasize with rows of teeth trying to bite you. It is against sentient foes that he has always held back. His tenderness and compassion are at odds with his vocation. He is a protector of Songhold, but his heart is that of a healer. That night she prays that he may see who he is, not who he thinks he needs to be.

Violet is a Neutral Good Crusader/Cleric/Radiant Servant of Ao played by Mark.
