 During the Drow Invasion, the Gnomes of Higglesbottom launched an extremely successful guerilla warfare campaign on the Drow, forcing them to withdraw to the cities and plunder the region much less than elsewhere. The Flan of Hrunhold held little wealth that the Drow were interested in and were easily able to migrate across the Javan River, and return to rebuild even before the reconquest was complete. As a result, Ostrock’s lands suffered far less devastation than most of Sterich, a fact which enabled Ostrock to become one of the richest nobles in the land. During the Trantherian occupation, Ostrock had a tumultuous relationship with Governor Gilmatis, but his remoteness and strength on his own lands kept Gilmatis at bay. This minor rebellion coupled with his vassal’s successes in the Drow Invasion has won him great respect and regard from many other Sterich nobles. Baron Ostrock is one of the few lords in Sterich with a Jasidin “advisor”, a fairly recent addition to his court. He is nominally a vassal of the Count of Northern Javan. Since that position has remained vacant since the previous Count was killed during the Mage Assassinations, Baron Ostrock has acted independently. |
