I’m planning to run a one-shot Clone Wars RPG with a couple friends. It’s going to be a fast-paced, heavy combat game. I have 2 jedi master players, both of them at level 15, and both of them able to kick serious droideka. One is a Cerean jedi master. The other is a raging Wookiee jedi.
Their mission is to infiltrate a secret droid factory where they are launching the prototype of a new deadly combat droid that will be used by the Separatist in the Clone Wars. This droid factory is armed with the latest and heaviest assault droids. Also, they will meet and do battle with a Sith at the end: I’m thinking Assajj Ventress. I want some cool force-using lightsaber combat stuff happening. It’s gonna be AWESOME!!!
Now, I need some ideas:
1. What awesome Clone-Wars-era battle droids can I put up against these 2 combat monsters? I plan to throw a bunch of mooks at them: some B1’s, B2’s, and some droidekas, just to get that Star Wars feel. But these are just mooks and they won’t present a real challenge or threat.
2. What planet could this secret droid factory be on?
3. What are some ideas for the new prototype deadly combat droid?
4. Are there any vehicles that I can throw at them (or anything else that I haven't thought of)?

1. While I'd still keep them as mooks and probably be using them is squads as well I would consider doing a few minor upgrades to the Droidekas. With the default Droideka being a pretty weak CL 4 as an NH12 droid I'd push it up to CL 6 while staying at 12 levels by replacing some NH levels with levels in Soldier and EliteTrooper. If possible I'd also look at putting some of your mook encounters in areas that are highly favorable to the droids (range, environments that are hazardous to organics) to help level the playing field.
3. If you have it take a look at the SGtD because I believe it has a number of higher end combat droids which could be appropriate. I'd have to look through it again to find ones that "officially" work for what you're looking for.
If you're just looking for a "prototype" combat droid I'd just build a custom PC style droid to use against them; I once did a Grievous style combat droid out to a dozen levels (and posted it someone on these boards) who you could up a few more levels for a threat. You could even convince the PCs that they are fighting GG himself which could make things more exciting for them if they don't immediately recognize they are just fighting some droid version of him. I had my 12 level version with four arms but using two lightsabers with the talent allowing them damage as if wielded two handed plus he had the feats needed to make four relatively accurate attacks with those lightsabers; the other two hands I'd actually use for ranged weapons.
Monsters are a possibility too. Maybe Dooku has been studying Sith sorcery, and has managed to mutate some Geonosis beasts.
And don't forget Magna Guards among the droids. It's relatively easy to do a version of Magna Droids that have Unrelenting Assault, so they do a minimum of Str damage twice each round even if you successfully use Block.
Children believe what we tell them, they have complete faith in us. I ask of you a little of this childlike simplicity, and to bring us luck, let me speak four truly magic words: "A long time ago...." (Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast)
SGtD's Droidekka Mk. II is a nice upgrade to the standard Droidekka at CL8. There are quite a few others in that book which could be adapted, going up to at least CL12.
One thing I did when I had my PCs invading a droid factory was to use tiles from the game Robo Rally, including working conveyor belts and hazards. Repair points on the maps represented control stations at which the PCs could attempt to shut down local operations to make movement easier.

Have a space battle for punching into the system. Use buzz droids like in Ep3. Have rocket-propelled B1s like in the tv show later. Have the heroes infiltrate from an underground sewer pipe and use aquatic modified droids. I did this. Heroes couldn't use blasters; attack ended badly-- good challenge.
2. What planet could this secret droid factory be on? Raxus Prime!
3. What are some ideas for the new prototype deadly combat droid? Go to Terminator. Liquid metal alloy Terminator.
4. Are there any vehicles that I can throw at them (or anything else that I haven't thought of)? What about the giant vehicle that Mace battled that pounds down and sends everyone flying? Garrett

Don't foget to flip through the fandom comics material, even if you don't want to use our stats, the lists of droids adn vehicles and such is fairly comprehensive, and should help spark seeds or ideas for this sort of stuff. Good luck with the campaign!

For your ultimate battle droid, how about making it an ultimate battlefied commander - a droid incorporating a remote-processor hub, that can command all the battle droids around it, allowing them to move and act as a single entity.
Further than that, it comes equipped with a needle-gun that fires compact hacking probes. Fired into an enemy droid, a vehicle, or even a downed droid, it re-animates them under the command droid's control - think of the TX Terminator commanding multiple vehicles during the car chase in Terminator 3.
Finally, it also has complete control over the factory's automation, making even the building a living entity that the PCs must fight.
I am currently running a Clone Wars Campaign, so I think I have some stuff that could help:
First, a list of droids used by the Seperatists during the war (alter to suit your personal tastes). Included is the book, page found on, and role in the Seperatist war machine.
I'm both selfish and rational. I'm scheming, secretive and manipulative; I use knowledge as a tool for personal gain, and in turn obtaining more knowledge. At best, I am mysterious and stealthy; at worst, I am distrustful and opportunistic.

As for a deadly prototype combat droid, I'd suggest making your own based upon any concept you wish. I would suggest loading up on abilities that prevent your average-Jedi from using their strongest abilities (Overwhelming Attack from The Clone Wars CG is a personal favourite) and make it difficult for them to close to melee range (give it a lightsabre-resistant weapon and then give the droids Telescopic Appendages, for example).
What did you personally envisage in terms of basic concept?
A small point sienn_sconn, but it was actually Raul_Torin that came up with those upgraded droideka stats and not pukunui ( link to original post ).
I don't mean to have a go, but I think the author always deserves recognition...
