I tend to see Resistance as an easier, more solid mechanic. I also hate with a passion +X magic items and the old -this can only be hit with a +2 weapon- , -this only with a +3- and so on. What I do like are immunities, although I'd use them sparingly. I really don't think ghosts and other immaterial creatures should give a damn about anything solid, elemental magic included, with the possible exception of weapons and magic created for the explicit goal of hurting them. Dragons might be highly...

These types of special monster traits should be "just spelled out on a case-by-case basis for the monsters that ... need them."
Describing unique characteristics for different monsters allows for a greater variety of monster traits. Instead of 27 different monsters with either resiatance or DR, you could have 8 with DR, 7 with resistance, and a dozen others with wholey unique characteristics.

In a sense, I don't really see either holy nor radiant as damage types. Heat, acid, cold, electricity, sure... but holiness and light don't cause damage per se, now do they? Would a magical laser cause radiant damage? Nope -it would burn. Heat damage (or fire, or burn, whatever).
Checking the examples I would say -Flamestrike is clearly burning damage (which BTW should work especially well on dry old skeleton bones, but anyways) -the holiness of the flamestrike would be the same holiness...

I think it depends on the complexity you want to achieve. Heat from focused light based damage can be protected against in different ways than heat from flames. This make the simulation better but the game more complex.

I'd actually prefer Reptile. Small, Medium and HUGH!

I like having both, with dinosaurs being one thing and behemoths being another.

The stereotype aside, Tendrilsfor20 makes a good point that if veteran DMs are hired then they should have good customer service skills, as would be expected by any employer. Remember, they are not being paid to spread only their point of view and leave other options out, they are supposed to bring in more players. Like with education, where uniformity doesn't address the different learning needs of individual students, the best DMs will work with the new players to help them detail the game to...
