About loot. I was just wondering what your plans were for giving out magic items. Will it be totally random or will we have a say in what we are looking for?
Either way is fine for me.

Most likely, rather than me giving out loot based on my own views, i will instead just tell you what level magic item you get. Then you can just get an item of appropriate level for yourself, also writing a list of "wish-list" items and i will distribute them as they come up.
This is partly because I am not a genius at deciding descent magic item for loot, that and theres no point me giving you things that you aren't going to use.
Then again everythings up for discussion as i am open for ideas.

I may have missed the discussion, but I can't attend the session with the new time. The original post said it started at 9am which I can attend, the new time ends at 3:00pm and overlaps a prior engagement.
Is the 12:00pm EST - 3:00pm EST going to be the official start time? If so I'm going to have to bow out for someone who can make it.

Imagine a world where the first-time D&D player rolls stats, picks a race, picks a class, picks an alignment, and buys gear to create a character. Imagine if an experienced player, maybe the person helping our theoretical player learn the ropes, could also make a character by rolling ability scores and picking a race, class, feat, skills, class features, spells or powers, and so on. Those two players used different paths to build characters, but the system design allows them to play at the same table. -Mearl |

Nope, might be a mistake on my part. But it should be 9 am EST and the session should continue for 3 hours unless everyone is fine to carry on.
Original times are staying the same nothing has changed.
Should be fixed now, the time zone might be wrong but the times are as originally announced.

Also I am not sure what everyone's opinions are on the subject, but I tend to lean toward a balanced, challenging campaing. Expecially in regards to magic items, which are fine, as long as they are not given out like candy or made too powerful to tip the favor in our direction making the game too easy.
Again though I don't have tons of experience so I am sure you will do a fine job of keeping the game balanced.

I will try my best to make it as clutch and epic as i possibly can, i am a sort of person that enjoys epic moments and creating hurdles which you can be proud of completing. As long as you guys stick with me through this, after a few sessions i will get a good gauge for what your characters abilities are and we will take the game from there.
I might try to hatch this little idea of how to distribute magic items but first I have to work out the kinks and see if it works.
I am also definetly not gonna load you up with magic items, they way i see it magic items are super rare clutch items of arcane magic. I can only imagine you all in paragon levels aquired a set of magical items in your adventures kited out for every occasion and each a momento of an epic showdown.
You are not gonna be at that stage before you even get past heroic thats for sure.
Speaking of game mechanics as we are, if i could have some input one a few things.
First, Crit Fails. This is often a sign of extreme hilarity and adds a twist for both PC's and NPC's by creating a blunder or mistake by scoring a 1 on a roll, they will be minor things such as you charge and miss and so instead slip and fall prone because you over reached. If anyone is against this please do say.
Second. Your Personal story shaping your character, since your person story is your own characters background it might be included into the campaign in ways you did not anticipate. It will be mostly homebrew methods of play based on your backgrounds. God interventions and such.
Third. I am going to (in a reasonable and gentle manner) boost you through the first few levels, this is because level 1-2 encounters are boring as hell and it is hard to make something creative up. So expect a bit of a bang on your first few sessions.
Feel free to comment on any of these points, i am open for feedback always.

My preference is Inherent Bonuses with magic items being rare and story related. Inherent Bonuses remove the math of having to have a better weapon/neck/armor slot item. And the other items tend to be more interest, but lacking a flat hit/damage plus.
However, I am fine with giving out items the traditional method. Maybe a wish list thread to get some idea as to what people are interested in?

First: Critical failures are almost as fun as critical hits.
Second: I think thats a great idea. I hope the backgrounds help you add lots of flavor to the campaign.
Third: Thats cool, maybe a few extra non-combat encounters to get us familiar with each other would be a good place to add a little xp.

Glad to hear you find those okay. Also i have made a slight breakthrough and now am pushing to get both groups started on Sunday. I will start both groups out but they will be the same adventure set in the same place, except each group will branch off at one point (with a gentle nudge from me) and set on their own path.
The idea is that the world will be constant and one group will affect the other, if something happens to change a certain thing in the world then the other group will certainly hear of it. This will create a more natural sense of a living world and hopefully get you guys immersed. (or maybe running about half the world fixing the other groups mistakes).
So hopefully we get enough people to start up both groups at the same time, currently I have 3 players confirmed for group 1 and 2 player confirmed for group 2.
