Now, have you ever noticed how oddly poor some races are? I know that goblins are often escaped slaves who left with little more than the clothes on their backs. But if goblins are still enslaved shouldn't their owners work them like dogs ,and give them better gear to work with? Kobolds who number in the thousands and are better miners than humans supposedly give their wealth away to dragons , shouldn't they see to it that every kobold has an experts masterwork tools first,just to increase their efficiency? Most warrior cultures insist that you learn 4-6 weapons ,yet in order to avoid swamping Dm's most warrior races in D D only carry 2 weapons,they also wear armor inferior to what the pcs would wear as well. Why do warrior races that live by raiding have so little loot? D D has an unofficial rule that slaves are always equal to 10%-40% of the tribe that enslaves them,this is becase Gary Gygax felt that a tribe wouldn't take more slaves that they could handle by outnumbering them. In real life slave operations have 1 overseer per 4 slaves. Both the Spartans and the Romans kept about 10 slaves per citizen. So for game purposes we see limits imposed that aren't realistic.
