The Fighter: Slayer is something I like and dislike. Mechanically, I like the fighter being able to hit even when he misses. Thematically, I think slayer is a poor fit. My minds eye sees a slayer as someone who hit big and misses big – a complete whiff is a real possibility. Reaper does not add much depth and seems to be just a different name for the same thing. What works better for me is something like Veteran – Your battlefield intelligence allows you to slip a quick punch or elbow against enemies when you miss. As well, I would like to see the fighters surge couched more in thematic terms. I’m also not sure if this kind of ability really belongs. To me, and in previous editions of D&D (for the most part) the fighter was the always on character. He could always trip, ...
