This is my favorite supplement so far. It gives me some hope that WotC is headed in a good direction with the D&D franchise.
I started playing about a year ago and 4th ed is my only experience of D&D. Everyone always tells me "3.5 is better" but somehow we've managed to have a ton of fun with 4th ed anyway. There are only a couple of things I don't like: The oversimplification of the DM's job and WotC's apparent obsession with glossy finishes and card stock. The latter hit rock...

I'm very happy with the book full of thoughtfully composed, easy to read useful material.
      I've some feedback...
I like the baggage-free format, which leaves the combat detail to Monster Vault especially because I know that those builds will almost always play well in the exact format in which they're printed. I'd rather have a nice set of books like this for Undermountain. Although cards and minis are fine, but once you have cards, DM vs Publisher content starts to be too obvious and...

Thanks everyone. I am overwhelmed by the kind words. It has been an interesting trip, doing this freelance stuff for WotC. I've learned a great deal--although probably not as much as I should! :-)

Loved playtesting it. Some of those "easy" encounters worked surprisingly well and my players loved those little details. The end version looks like a top notch product (paging through it as I type). My compliments. Of course, having playtested it, I cannot use it in my regular group, but still ;)

I was just thinking you guys/gals to revamps from old to new and thought hey why not do the old to new for this. I run an all inclusive campaign which is funny because thats what wizards is trying to do right now. I literally use everything, but its easier than you think. I did find issue 1 and 100 of dungeon to read up on 17 was eluding me. Orcus that evil creature tipped me to a gathering of lost dungeon scrolls on some alternate plane. Thanks Orcus.

It is built as a balanced, "serious" PC race. But of course you can go all gonzo with artistic names and ninja weapons ;)

Thanks for this, Keith. While working on the Crimson Codex faction in the Xen'drik Expeditions campaign for Wizards, the most enjoyable part for me was playing around with the Draconic Prophecies and using them as part of the adventures. I take what I learned there and try to make it a part of everything I write now. The concept and its execution is tremendously fun and imaginative!

Technically wouldn't some demihumans still be alive after the Spellplague? Elves at least, I'm sure. I mean I know that 4e reduced the life span for the demihuman races, but that much?

I'm also greatly enjoying your investigations of earlier editions. I'm currently playing 4E, but trying to apply some of the principles of traditional D&D. For example, I don't scale encounters and run a rather open-ended sandbox campaign with no set plot (though there are plenty of events which the PCs can interact with). My game is also a bit more dangerous than by the book 4E (I use the AD&D dead at -10 rules rather than the death saving throw system). None of my players have had a PC...

Very interesting, Untimately! I think a lot on that issue of survivability. I'm not sure if this ends up being a style of play issue or how central it is to an edition's feel. If PCs could easily survive level 1 in AD&D, but it got harder after that, would the game be fundamentally different? Did so many groups start at level 3 or higher just to "get past that" as a friend said to me recently? At the same time, I love that exploration and out-of-the-box thinking. But is low survivability a...
