We had a test run of Beta Chamber yesterday, and it was successful. Big. Sigh. Of. Relief. I wasn’t there (not high enough clearance), but Mike told me he heard that they were able to send a video sensor through the chamber for almost 15 seconds, and they saw some dude carrying a big rifle. It said “Mark II3G5 Fusion Rifle.” Sounds bad. Ass. And also, where the hell are they sending sensors that they’re picking up dudes packing weapons? Unless it was some new NERF toy. I’d buy that.

Fell asleep in the lab—had some downright bizarre dreams, which I’m going to try to use as encounters and creatures in the D&D game. (Working on a monster that’s basically a sentient swarm of bees—kinda like in those old cartoons.)

So, one of the interesting benefits of working in a company that does
defense contracting is that you get to play with automatic weapons
occasionally. Here's how it's done: you get put on the list as an
engineer on call who goes out to the client (i.e. the military) to make
sure the equipment you've sold them is working out in the field. You
make some friends while you're out there, because most malfunctions are
user error that could have been fixed if they RTFM'ed, and nobody wants
to look like the guy who forgot to plug the unit in, so you make things
look like all the unit needed was a screw tightened and suddenly
everybody is your buddy.

This leads to invitations to the firing range, because nothing is as
funny to a soldier as an engineer trying to fire a rifle on full auto.

This was my first

I had to pick up another test bunny today. Jenny did the paperwork and decided to name him “Hoppy.” But she typoed the form and labeled him “Hoopy.” I call him Hoopy Frood. Anyone? Anyone?

*Edit:* R.I.P. Farriby?

So, I’ve been reading a copy of a book “Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang” Must’ve set it down somewhere—can’t find it. (Wouldn’t be that big a deal, but it was Alice’s—trying to get it finished before she gets here.) If anyone from Pung’s Punks finds it in the next day, +1,000 xp

In other weird news, I saw some suits touring the facility with my boss this morning. They had badges that said they were from the Hoffmann Foundation. That’s not the weird part. Later, down by the Beta Chamber, I saw one of the tour guys with some freaky weird iPad-like thing in his hands. I was about to walk up and tell the guy he shouldn’t be anywhere near there, but he ducked into a stairwell and I didn’t see anything wrong. I asked my boss about it later, but he just got a weird, vacant

Follow up on my last post.

So it turns out that the reason the dehydrator was on last week is because one of the guys—I think it was Rob—came in over the weekend and thought he would use one of them for personal use. Turns out he was making beef jerky. Because that’s what industrial/weapons grade dehydrators are for. /sarcasm

The bad news: He was canned. And now we all have to spend a day in mandatory “Proper Use of the Facility” training.

The good news: Damn fine jerky.

Mike told me that someone left one of the dehydrators on over the weekend. Which means someone is getting ripped a new one today. Considering how much those things cost to run, they should just take the power bill out of his pay. Heh.

Honestly, I wish they’d turn the stupid things off more often. When they fire them up in the mornings, my entire cube shakes. And I swear the temperature goes up a few degrees in here.

OK, can’t write much, but I don’t want to slack off just when I’m getting started.

Game News: Almost TPKed the Punks last night when Waldo (the roach) ran into the group right in the middle of a big fight with a bunch of troglodytes. Random encounter: 2d8 ghouls. That was a smelly fight for the PCs. >=p Congrats to Rauthgar Bladebite for surviving the fight and getting the group back on its feet! (+200xp if you read this today, Bobbo.)

Other news, my girlfriend’s’s coming into town. (Some of you know Alice Brajameranian—from NASA (MFC)? She’s cute, but she’s no rocket scientist. No, wait…she IS. Anyway, if I can get her security clearance, she’ll be joining in the game. If not, we’ll have to play a shorter session over lunch.

Roaches are bad, mmmkay?

We’ve had a serious roach problem down in the garage for a while now. But this is getting out of hand. I came into the office this morning and there were two on my keyboard. I just spend the last hour disinfecting everything in here.

The worst bit was that when I turned the light on, they didn’t just scatter. Like they’re supposed to. It was like they just turned and looked at me, decided I wasn’t worth it, and sauntered off. I’m not kidding. I swear they sauntered.

If management doesn’t do something about this soon, someone’s gonna blow a fuse.

Hey, fellow Dungeoneers! Thanks for checking out my D&D Blog—I’ll try to keep it updated as often as I can, though I’m pretty busy these days—I’m Lab Tech 4 at PungCo Lab, Murfreesboro—just got pulled onto the Beta Chamber Team. Can’t tell you more, or I’d have to kill you ;)

I’ve been playing D&D since Jr. Hi with a pretty hardcore group that survived just about everything our DM could throw at us. (Remember Keep on the Shadowfell? We not only kept Meepo alive, we let him be part of our adventuring party as my secondary character and made him King.)

Been DMing a 4E game (homebrewed world) with some other PungCo labmonkeys for a couple years now. (I’m still working on setting up a campaign page—it’ll be called “PC Punks.”)

We’ve got a pretty sweet setup
