I'm planning to run a social skill challenge in my campaign, the party members are: a minotaur barbarian, a warforged swordmage, a dwarf shaman, a drow warlock, a gnome sorcerer and a genasi warlord.

The deal is: the barbarian's trained skills are nature, perception and athletics and shamans' are endurance, heal, nature and perception. How can I manage to involve them in a fun way?

Can you make sure that some of the NPC participants in the challenge are eladrin, elves, gnomes, or other fey, so the characters with Nature can use that skill to gain some insight about them? Success with the skill could garner a success outright, or provide a bonus to someone else's check. As it would be something like a knowledge check, I would suggest only allowing them to do so until they roll a failure (unless the situation changes), as per the general rules for knowledge checks. And have something in mind to explain what a failed Nature check means. In general, it means they have no pertinent information, but that doesn't mean that they might not gain some impertinent information the use of which complicates the situation.

They both have Perception too, so maybe you can use that in a similar way, perhaps to notice messages or looks between the NPCs.

And there's always Aid Another. Seriously, why does no one ever use that? Is it too much like a consolation prize? Too much like what a sidekick would do?

Exactly right - it's hard not knowing specifics, but knowledge of the culture - such as taboos, courtesies, etc, can be used to give a flat bonus to the diplomatic skills of others.  Also, history and streetwise if there's time.

Through the ages, many would wonder "Does art imitate life or does life imitate art?"
I wonder "Does the art of discourse on the internet imitate the art of discourse in life or does the art of discourse in life imitate the art of discourse on the internet?"

But the fey creatures aren't in the realm of the Arcana skill? I've got the idea, though. I need to find a good way to use perception, but I can't figure it out...

I guess the Aid Another action is like "I can't do anything usefull, so I'll just use Aid Another".

I'm still working on the specifics, just don't this to be a failure like my other attempts at this, they went pretty bad and I want the next one to be better.

And thanks for the help so far.

My mistake. Still, this is even easier, as humans and lots of other creatures are "natural" creatures. You want to be careful not to get into the realm of Insight, but if your minotaur and dwarf can roll to recall what kinds of food, temperatures, and noises the other NPCs like, then that should be worth a bonus.

I guess the Aid Another action is like "I can't do anything usefull, so I'll just use Aid Another".

Sort of, but even if someone's not trained in a skill, they might still be the second best at that skill in the group, and if they don't try Aid Another then the potential +2 is just going to waste. I guess I like it for the team feeling it gives.

Yeah, we're all working on understanding skill challenges. There's room in the current Danger Room scenario, if you want to make up a 1st level character and join. See the Skill Challenge Danger Room thread in this group.

OK, so here's the breakdown of your "extra" party members:

Shared Skills: Nature, Perception
Barb: Athletics
Shaman: Heal, Endurance

So here's an idea, it is possible to have other players unlock skills that allows these "extra" party members to participate.

Insight: (Medium DC) A party member knows the person is being decietful, but can't spot the signs of lying. Passing this skill allows any player to make 1 Perception check.
Perception: (Med - High DC) The party member looks for visual cues on certains words or phrases to find where the deception lies.

Intimidate: (Med - High DC) The player makes a threat, but it lacks some merit without any gusto to back it up. Passing this check allows any player to make 1 Athletics check.
Athletics: (Med DC) The player hurls and object across the room, breaks a tree, or simply shows incredible strength, backing up his friend.

Diplomacy/Bluff: (Medium DC) The player offers help to tend to the person's wounds or his allies wounds, but the person is skeptical without proof. Passing this check allows any player to make 1 Heal check.
Heal: (Medium DC) Numbing a bothersome wound, the players makes an impression of competence.

As far as endurance I got nothing.
