18 and 7. I like the thicker 7. The dragon breathing fire is so iconic you can't go wrong.

Hey, I tried my hand at it! I tried to get the wings, the fire, and the ampersandiness all in there. What do you think?

I was such a huge fan of the Tortle he got a free 4E update as the Torope. Kick some shell and grab it here...

It is built as a balanced, "serious" PC race. But of course you can go all gonzo with artistic names and ninja weapons ;)

      You've just described BECMI D&D
      April 9, 2012 5:27 PM PDT
I'm going to say that the PHB and DMG *should not* have "advice" sections on how to play, construct, or adjudicate adventures.
Such material is useful precisely once, ever, in the life of any player or DM. Once. But unfortunately, in every edition of D&D, that crap has been strewn throughout the book, wedged between the actual tables used in play or character or adventure construction. It's not just wasting space, it's making the actual information more difficult to access.
      If...

Perhaps he was thinking about the critical hits, fumbles, and wounds rules from the 2e players option books.
      I just hope that in 5e a 20 is always a hit and a 1 is always a miss.

I agree. I think Reflex, Fortitude, and Will defenses as opposed to saves was one of the best innovations to come out of 4E. Let's not take a step back simply for nostalgia's sake.

11, if your going to change something, change it all the way around and not just alter it a tad. So my thought is go all out.

I agree with making it look less 'game-like' and more sophisticated. Number 7 would be my favorite, but to be honest, none of them really do it for me. In fact, neither do the previously published ones. The various logos for the Forgotten Realms have been much better in my opinion.
I guess the original (Advanced) Dungeons and Dragons (brown/white boxes through the 1st ed) worked because it definitely looked like a game for adults, not kids. In many cases (again, the current Forgotten Realms...

I think this article overlooked perhaps the strongest benefit of 4e powers: dividing abilities into Attacks and Utilities. No longer did we have to be worried about a new player gimping themselves by choosing Feather Fall as their 1st level Wizard power only to feel worthless for the entirety of 1st level. Or that an advanced player would almost exclusively choose attack-oriented spells and outshine the rest of the party at higher levels. Or that a Fighter wouldn't get his own set of interesting...

I agree with your point about 4e power dividing abilities into Attack and Utility- But I'm not sure this actually went far enough. Utility powers could have been classified into in and out of combat choice at particular levels. This would prevent players from shying away from choosing non-combat options for their Utilities. It would have a dual benefits in helping prevent analysis-paralysis in combat by reducing the number of choices for any particular combat scenario.

So sad to have come across this, but it doesn't surprise me.
I've played many campaigns in various settings, and DMed plenty more all over the place, and had a lot of fun.
But then, several years ago, I discovered Birthright. Much later than when it came out, but Birthright still changed the game for me. The first campaign I DMed, started in humble Tuornen in Anuire, and ended up with a party that included a descendant of Roele who didn't know it until it was all said and done, and...
