Ultimately, I'd like to see this edition tread lightly with setting dependent material. This includes things like the social details of races, languages and the like. A lot of this material is OK for a 'default setting', but some thought should go into how this will interact with setting material.
This is a general comment that extends to PC things like race fluff, language, and alignment.

The only thing I really don't like about the stat block is the average damage stat. I guarantee I will never use that rule, and it will only get in my way. I'd prefer that you stick with the old school damage dice plus modifiers only.

This approach is the core of a good RPG, guidelines and QuickStart rules but a solid framework for customisation. It is what I have almost always done to every RPG that tried to be too prescriptive.

Couple more ideas for you–Barrister, Demagogue, Magical Duelist (please make counterspell work), Mighty Caster, Persistent Caster (saves, eschew components, spell resistance), Versatile Caster (and this is the one who messes with distance, area and duration).

I can interpret this as one of two ways:
      1) You're replacing the skill DC with a different nomenclature (journeyman, expert, etc.). You're just putting a different shade of lipstick on a pig.
      2) It also sounds like you're adding additional skills. (i.e. Expert swimming, Grandmaster climbing, etc.).
      So really... why the change...?
Like AH_viperm4a3 said above - Train your GM's on how to use the skill system to craft good, dramatic, and fun encounters.

This is basically what I have always done. The easiest way for a player to get a DC down to where he can hit it is to play smart. Trying to Search for runes written in invisible ink is hard, unless you have researched and created the revealing reagent.

The new layout looks fine, however it still doesn't address my biggest issue with these; the monsters don't have illustrations for them. If the monsters are simply refined or repeated versions from another source (MM1,2,3 etc) then that is OK, a simple line in the monster header to say it original source is all that I'd require. But for new monsters, or ones that have been modified extensively, I would love an image. It makes it easier for the players (and myself) to visualise.
      If space is...

I agree with the comments that it would be more interesting if you provide illustrations for the monsters.
