Here is my idea for the Next Psion: a mixture of at will flexibility with the potential to trade in at will power for daily bursts. I will add the powers in the next post.
Psions are the masters the Inner World. Most sentient beings only experience the Inner World as their own thoughts and feelings, but psions through rigorous meditation and contemplation have realized that the Inner World expands infinitely further. They send their thoughts to manipulate the minds of others, make their passions a tangible force to move objects through space, and even open their eyes to see past the veil that hides the secrets of the world.
Key Abilities: Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma. Intelligence is used to manifest and focus powers. Wisdom aids in gaining insight with clairsentience (Second Sight) and Charisma helps to influence minds with telepathy.
Creating a Psion
When you create a character whose first class is psion, you gain these benefits.
Ability Adjustment: +1 to your Intelligence or Wisdom score
Starting Hit Points: 4 + your Constitution modifier
Armor and Shield Proficiencies: None
Weapon Proficiencies: Daggers, slings, quarterstaffs, and light crossbows
You can make a psion quickly by following these suggestions.
Suggested Background: Sage
Suggested Specialty: Survivor
Suggested Equipment: Traveler's clothes, quarterstaff, adventurer’s kit, healer’s kit, and 64 gp, 8
Level PsiDice Pool PsiDice Reserve PsiDice Capacity Augments Major Powers
1 1 1 1 Base + 1 1
2 2 1 1 2 1
3 3 1 2 2 2
4 3 2 2 3 2
5 4 2 3 3 3
A psion gains the following class features.
Hit Dice: 1d4 per psion level
Hit Points: 1d4 (or 3) + your Constitution modifier per psion level gained
Level 1: Psionics
Psionics is the "magic" of the Inner World. The Inner World is the matrix of thoughts, ideas, and emotions that holds reality together. While the psion may use the Inner World to produce effects similar to those of the spells of the arcane magic-users, her approach is entirely different. A wizard applies her knowledge of formulae to impose her will on the cosmos; whereas, a psion only realizes the truth: her will is the cosmos.
Benefit: You can manifest, focus, and augment psionic powers. You gain a PsiDice Pool, Reserve, and Capacity based on your level that you use to augment and focus psionic powers. After a long rest your PsiDice in your Pool and in Reserve are restored. During a short rest you can replace PsiDice burnt by focusing major powers with PsiDice in your Reserve. PsiDice spent to augment powers are restored at the beginning of your turn. The amount of PsiDice you can spend or burn on a single augment or focus is determined by your PsiDice Capacity.
Psionic Attacks: When you make a psionic attack using a psion power, you use your Intelligence modifier for the attack roll, and add a bonus to that roll based on the Psionic Attack column in the psion table.
Saving Throw DCs: When a psion power that you manifest or focus calls for a saving throw, the save DC equals 11 +your Intelligence modifier. As you gain levels, the DC increases, as noted in the psion table.
Level 1: Psionic Discipline
When a psion firsts gains access to the Inner World she communicates her will along one of the three pathways: force (psychokinesis), mind (Telepathy), or sight (clairsentience). [I will start this playtest with just psychokinesis and add the other disciplines later. For those wondering about options for generalists psions, I was thinking the psion would get to choose to either add a disciplince or more capacity at level 7 and 15.]
Benefit: The psion's Discipline determines which minor powers she gains and which major powers and augments she can choose.
Level 1: Minor Powers
Minor powers represent the most basic form of the psion's control of the Inner World.
Benefit: As a force psion you gain the minor powers: force punch, inertial barrier, telekinesis, and mind-over-matter.
Level 1: Augments
A psion shapes her powers from moment to moment with her will (PsiDice).
Benefit: You gain the base augments of your minor powers and one level one augment of your choosing. You gain more augments according to the psion table.
Level 1: Major Powers
A psion can focus her will (PsiDice) for devastating effects called major powers. Although these powers can greatly aid you and your companions, they sap you temporarily of your ability to augment your powers.
Benefit: You gain a level one major power of your choice. You gain more major powers according to the psion table.
