I think 4e fundamentally has a problem of pacing. When you are trying to tell a story, even if the story is "you go into a dungeon and kill a dragon", you don't want combat to consume every moment of the game. Even if the combat is fun, and sometimes it is not.
Anyway here is my solution. Try it sometime. [b][u]No rest for the wicked: 4e pacing through limited rests[/b][/u] [b]Lair Assault 4e: Limiting the 5-minute rest[/b] [i]What's the point? Why would I eliminate the short rest?[/i] Combat in 4e is long. Individual player turns are lengthy and complicated, with multiple actions per turn, each with their own unique rules. Out-of-turn immediate actions slow it down yet again and throw off the pace. As characters gain levels and items the situation ... |
