Description:
Paur, the fourfold world, is a young realm where the land and its people undergo rapid changes as fundamental forces exert their influence on every aspect of existence. Mysterious beings of immense power embody these four forces. The Smiths endow the mortal population with technological knowledge. The Sages embody the arcane energy that flows into Paur from other, older worlds. The Spirits exist as manifestations of all aspects of the natural world. The Shepherds entrust all people with the messages of the gods.
For the most part, these fourfold powers work in concert to improve Paur for its denizens. The Smiths work happily with the Sages and the Spirits, as arcane and primal energy serve as excellent power sources for their technological innovations. The Sages cooperate with the Smiths and the Shepherds, understanding that magical forces originate beyond this world but are to be used as tools for its advancement. The Spirits ally themselves with the Smiths and the Shepherds, trusting that the development of Paur will benefit all of its constituent parts and acknowledging the role of the gods in creating the world. The Shepherds identify with the Sages and the Spirits, recognizing the power of the gods in both natural and supernatural events.
Unfortunately, not all of the fourfold powers work in concert. The Smiths actively work to defy the Shepherds, believing that the world's fate is in its own hand and rebelling against the gods; accordingly, the Shepherds view the Smiths as heretics and work against the advancement of technology. Similarly, the Sages and the Spirits view each other as opponents, with one actively working to increase the amount of unnatural energy streaming into the world and the other representing the collected mystic energy produced by the world of Paur.
How will the world of Paur and its people develop under the influence of these fourfold forces? Where will you place your loyalties, and how will you advance their interests? The history of Paur is yet to be written-- what will it say about you?
