Lakota follows the boy turned ...she isn't sure what he has turned into but she doesn't like the term monster. She is certain they are about to find out what happened to Calia. "Does she have a name?"

Moraq'om begins to follow as well. He is curious to learn more about the strange boy they've found, and figures that if any more excitement is to be had it will be in this cave. "Who exactly are we being taken to? You have not told us who this 'queen' of yours is yet."

Kava quickly makes his way back to the first chamber of the cave, where Maroly is busily making notes on various pieces of paper under the light of a sunrod.  He tells her that the way beyond is safe, and gives her a small summary of the situation.  The timid scholar readies another piece of paper and says she is ready to continue deeper.

Upon his return with Maroly, Danner leads the lot of you deeper into the caves.  They seem to go on forever, twisting and turning, eerily lit branches leading off to gods know where.  Despite his hunched and distorted figure, Danner strikes a fast pace through the caves, and hisses harshly at anyone who speaks during the journey, telling them it isn't safe yet.  The crystals provide continous light throughout the caves, in veins of yellow, green, purple and blue.  Shelves of fungus grow between the green crystals and those of other colors.  They shine as brightly as the crystal they cling to.  More beetles scurry over their surfaces.

Soon, you pass by two roughly carved wooden posts.  Runes etched into the wood glow in red and blue.  Past the posts, the cavern widens considerably, becoming large enough that several of the huts from the village could have fit inside.  Green and purple crystals line the walls and ceiling, giving the entire place a muted glow.  Inside, you are surprised to find that there are many hunched humanoid shapes shuffling around, going about their business among the giant fungi.  Some are as large as Danner, others are smaller, down to the size of large dogs.  Ridges on their backs and heads flash in different colors when they stand near each other, and you wonder if they might be they way these creatures talk.  Toward the back of the cavern, a wood and stone structure roughly resembles a house.

Ignoring the runes that mean nothing to him, Nim points to the houslike structure, I suppose that is where we are going to start finding answers.

Lakota finds a feeling of discomfort spreading within her. It isn’t the crystals or the fungi but the number of beetles that set off silent alarm bells inside her mind. If the cave were filled with bats she could understand, but what is feeding this many beetles? Could there be some type of symbiotic relationship happening here between the beetles, the crystals, and these boys? She remembers the beetle that landed on Danner’s horn, flashing red. Was a type of communication taking place? It certainly could seem that way as she reflects upon it.

The cave does twist and turn, boring deeply into the mountains until they arrive at what is clearly a functioning village. Lakota studies the runes etched into the post as they pass it. She feels it is important to know what they represent in order to better understand what is going on here. (See rolls below.) Then she studies the village, looking to see how they are managing on their own and if they are happy or morose over their situation. What she seeks is understanding.

History, Nature, Arcana for runes: 19(1d20) +7 = 26; 6(1d20) +8 = 14; 19(1d20) +2 = 21
Perception 19(1d20) +3 = 22
Insight: 18(1d20) +8 = 26

"Well," Moraq'om starts off, a mildly annoyed tone to his voice that hadn't been there before, "is it safe to talk here? Now can you tell us who exactly it is we are here to see?" This larger portion of the cave is certainly intriguing to the Moraq, what with its concentration of glowing crystal and strange bug creatures, but he took this job to protect others in combat and the lack of combat is a bit disappointing. Perhaps these bug people are being preyed upon by some other creature that I could slay, as clearly these do not seem to be much of a threat.

He glances to the strange stone and wood structure as Nim points it out, finding it a bit odd that there would be a home in a cave, but he is not particularly interested in checking it out until their new escort finally answers his question.

Danner seems to be a bit more confident now that he is within the cavern, but his attitude is hardly improved.  He replies to Moraq'om, "She can tell you what she wants you to know."

He takes you to the house-like structure in the back of the village.  It is of rough construction, if it weren't for the fungus of the cavern growing over the structure, it would probably fall apart.  More runes glow on smaller posts near the door.  Inside, you realize the place is larger than the huts in Hinata, though it is all one room.  Small piles of scrap cloth seem to make up a half dozen rudimentary beds.  The room is dominated though, by a single large creature near the back.  Its lower body resembles a giant, black beetle, nearly he size of a horse.  From where beetle's head would be, the torse of a woman grows.  Her skin is pale white, with a single jagged scar running from her shoulder to her navel.  The tatters of what must have once been a decent robe provide for her modesty.  Long, white hair falls to her waist, parting around the horn sweeping from her brow.  She waves in greeting, and you see that her hands have changed, covered in thick, black chitin like Danner's are.  She smiles soflty.

Danner walks over and joins three other creatures that stand near what must be their Queen.  Two of them appear much like Danner, the third is smaller and wrapped in cloth bandages that conceal most of its form.  These must be the other children.

"I apologize for Danner's behavior.  He is very protective of me." she says.  "I see that you count many types of person among your number, so I hope that you can accept my own unusual appearance."

She's changed a lot, but the human parts of the Queen definitely look like Moraq'un.

I'll let Arcana work for the runes, though religion may have been better, since you can tell these are Holy Runes.  They remind you of the Runes you can invoke.  On the left post, the top Rune is Protection.  Under it are some smaller runes that you think have something to do with barriers, but you can't be sure unless you study it closely.  On the right post, the top Rune is Life, with other runes beneath it that you would also have to study, but given their placement, you suspect they have something to do with the protection post.  The carvings are pretty rough, like maybe the carver didn't have very good tools, but they clearly know their stuff.

Village:
You have many questions, and a look at the 'village' supplies a few answers.  It is very difficult for you to read the emotions of the beetle-people.  Unlike Danner, their faces are not human, and their body language is subtly alien to one accustomed to humanoid interaction.  Compared to normal human accomodations, the 'village' seems very spartan and poor.  There is only the one house-like structure, and it is nowhere near enough for all these creatures.  Some you can see sleeping on the floor of the cavern.  They don't seem to be particularly unhappy, though you notice they seem kittish about getting close the cavern mouth, and many of them back away from the party slowly.  They seem well fed, though, and you notice several of them eating chunks of a substance you soon realize is the fungus that grows on the walls.  In one area, you can see a few battered crates and the remains of what you think was a 'cow'(a strange quadruped that some of the Halremans kept domestically).  You recall what Denna said about wild animals taking livestock and goods in the cover of night, and it seems you may have found them.

"Moraq'un, is that you?" The sight of someone familiar is a shock to Moraq'om, especially when that someone is another Moraq. He knew that Moraq'un had been sent to the area recently, but his assumption had always been that she had slayed whatever beast was plaguing the area and then left on another assignment. Now before him is his half-transformed companion surrounded by more of the strange bug creatures in what seems to be a society of bugpeople.

"How did you get this way? What have these things done to you?" he continues, anger welling up as he suspects the bug creatures of corrupting Moraq'un in some way. As a reflex, he again puts his hand to his sword in case of a fight.

Ruminaw walks in amazement as he realizes that he had not been the sole resident of the cave system. Feeling quite humbled, he slowly trudges on, his bright eyes scanning the cavern, taking in all the sights. As Moraq'om recognizes the misshapen beetle-woman, Ruminaw's memory of her comes jutting forward sharply in his mind as well.

"You! You're the one who met me a few weeks ago," Ruminaw turns to Moraq'om for a moment. "I was going to tell you, but I hadn't had the chance."

He turns back to the misshapen moraq. "Is there a way to reverse this?"

“I think a more pertinent question would be whether she desires to change back or not.” Lakota looks around at the village. It is sparse and simple, yet no one seems unhappy even if they are not living in what most people would term the lap of luxury. “The most important question is whether we can stay here and converse without changing as well. I know I am not in a position to change, for I have other responsibilities and loyalties that must come first. There are several of my companions who may feel the same,” the shardmind tells the Queen. “There are some things we need to speak of, but I would not do it if it means we are in danger of this Change.”

The Queen can easily see that Lakota is not concerned in the least with her appearance. Intelligence comes in various shapes and sizes, though not all of it is good. She waits to see whether this is a situation that will end in peace or if it will require The Cleansing to stop whatever is happening here.
