Sorry. Was away for the weekend and then was down sick. Have replied accordingly.

Please note that I'll be away from the 16th - 19th and after which i'll be busy with Christmas. As such I'll probably won't be able to post often if at all during this period. Please NPC Cross if need be.

Sorry. I forgot to fill you in. You are going to be with the councilman and join the group then. You have only known the councilman for a day. You came to his attention during the goblin raid where you fought off a small group of goblins trying to burn down the tavern you were in. And later you helped the guard drive off an ogre and two hobgoblins. The ogre was pulling a wagon filled with pitch barrels. One of the hobgoblins was shooting at people with a bow, while the other was handing the barrels to the ogre after he lit them. The ogre was then throwing the barrels at buildings trying to start fires. With your help the guard drove them off. You caused the barrels in the wagon to ignite killing the hobgoblins and the ogre ran off in terror trying to get away from the burning wagon strapped to him. He was last seen fleeing across the bridge and running for the forest with the burning wagon still following behind him.

So now that the councilman is going to try to hire this other group he would like you to go along and help as it seems the group lost one of its members on their last treck.

No problem. The next three weeks are going to be pretty slow for these boards as everyone is pretty busy during this time. So if needed I will NPC a character to move thigns along, but I will give 3 or 4 days for people to respond.

I'll post my rolls and such tomorrow. Gotta finish the last part of her background because I've been putting that off, and then I'll write up her summary to the guy.

Sorry it's taken so long. Christmas and all.

EDIT: Can you also send me a copy of the Gaurdian theme Draidden? If you have it, that is.
Flag shanizar December 20, 2011 12:02 AM PST
I found this on the internet, gives a bit of information about all the themes, or at least some of them (I have no idea if there are any other themes.)

suyh82, stated he would be busy and not posting much if at all over the holidays. So, if one of you would like to make a post of introduction to the councilman with a skill check of some type then we can move this along. I am not going to do it as, to me, it just feels like one of those times a DM should not NPC a character.

If you would rather wait, then we will be on hold till suyh82 comes back.

Updated my character again...

Retrained one At-Will power (Guardian Harrier => Grappling Spirits)
Selected a different lvl 2 Utility Power (Hunter's Instinct => Far Sight )
Selected a theme (Fey Beast Tamer)

So once we leave the city I will meet up with my companion, Kira the Blink Dog...
Flag Draidden December 31, 2011 6:45 AM PST
Okay, the group needs to decide what path they will take. Do they immediately take off following the path Fargath found or do they take the time to question the hobgoblin that has been captured.

I am not going to worry about pushing this forward until after new years in the hopes we will get most if not everyone back.
Flag suyh82 January 2, 2012 5:43 PM PST
Happy New Year all! I'm back and should be able to resume posting regularly now.

Cross is for questioning the hobgoblin. Information is important especially given how tough the last adventure was.
Flag Layasa January 2, 2012 7:37 PM PST
I'm back as well, sorry for the long delay there.

I'm all for going and interrogating the hobgoblin. Planning on making a post soon after this, as well as updating all my other games. Also have to go and retrieve my books and such quickly as well.

Hope everyone had a happy new year. I did and was on a short vacation during which I kind of vegged  out on the boards and did not do any posting.

Going to be updating my character sheet for Tristeza tomorrow with her background info and a new portrait for her to fit and make her feel better for me. Also will probably be posting again tomorrow to see if I can make this Bluff check. Most likely in the morning, rather than at night tomorrow.

Fargath, you are up on the rules for animal companions I take it? Just double checking as I want to make sure you are aware that you and your companions share the same actions in a round. At least that is the last I read. I will double check them to be sure.
Flag shanizar February 28, 2012 12:09 AM PST
I know. I need to use a standard action for it to use a standard action, it can take a move action whenever I take on etc. I have the Heroes of feywild book where the theme is, the rules are there. It'll mostly be there for roleplaying reasons, I like animals
Flag Draidden March 5, 2012 12:53 PM PST
In case you are wondering, you are getting XP for the Skill Challenges.

I am updating the Treasure Thread after each fo the fights/challenges. The first post has the total for each person and a breakdown of how you got there. I still need to go back and get the first few encounters you had and post them, but the total is correct.
Flag PapaMidnight March 5, 2012 1:22 PM PST
If we push on, then we'll be going in at sundown...  ominous, but not particularly distressing.

Probably the best thing tactically would be to spend some time finding a good campsite, where we can watch the ruins but have cover - maybe even a defensible position.  Then we rest up and get going as early as we can to hit the ruins at sunrise.

Time is of the essence, though.  Maybe this is the night they make the sacrifice?  Hagurr can keep going, so I'm ambivalent.
Flag Draidden March 5, 2012 1:32 PM PST
I will have to double check my books tomorrow, am at work and do not have access to them now, to verify the effects of pushing on. You can make it to the ruinis with no problem, but going in with no rest after a full day of travle could start to have bad effects on you after going through some combat.

I just got the rules compendium book. Have to remember to start bringing that small book to work for issues like this.

After the battle I need to teach Hagurr that Fargath likes his enemies next to each other
Flag PapaMidnight March 21, 2012 3:55 PM PDT
ooh, sorry about that.  Wait a minute and they'll be back together

This is a wierdness with PbP.  Are actions resolved in post order or in initiative order or somewhere in between?

If Fargath's action is first- no problem, they are adjacent when the attack lands.
If Hagurr's action is first, do you get to know that the hobs are no longer adjacent and change your action?

Then there's the problem of the delaying enemies.  The delaying hob. will almost certainly move in reaction to Hagurr, which in theory could separate them even without Hagurr being a bonehead.
Flag shanizar March 21, 2012 11:40 PM PDT
No problem

And I wrote the conditions of my actions in the post, so I need to change them. I'll just wait for Wren and any delayed action before changing it as 2 posts for the same action is my limit
Flag Draidden March 22, 2012 6:53 AM PDT
I handle the actions in initiative order. If you post early that is fine. If something makes you actions null then I will let you change them.
Flag Draidden March 26, 2012 9:01 AM PDT
Sorry for the delay. If someone would like to post actions for Cross that would help me immensely. If not, I will strive to get an update posted to the fight tomorrow morning.

So far no takers for someone taking over Cross.
Flag PapaMidnight March 26, 2012 11:05 AM PDT
I posted something reasonable for Cross.  My intent is to get past the hobgoblin and start working on the sharpshooters, with their low, low AC.  If they stay nicely grouped, Shadow Storm should be very effective.

BTW,  are spiked chains now both flails and light blades?  It doesn't matter with a roll that bad, but if Cross' expertise feat applies, that's another +1 to hit for next time.   There's nothing about it in the Compendium though...

@SirK8: Nice rolls, but did you take into account the new positions of the hobgobs?
Flag SirK8 April 3, 2012 5:26 AM PDT
I posted my actions based on the map in Post #1009 which I took to be the most recent positions. The 2 hobgoblins had moved forward to engage the PCs at the front, and the sharpshooters were still in the back. Was this incorrect?
Flag shanizar April 3, 2012 5:48 AM PDT

Haha, worries. You had me sweating it for a moment there. Hopefully I took out that sharpshooter!
Flag PapaMidnight April 10, 2012 9:11 AM PDT
Bull's Strength pushes 1 sq, but Hagurr's Bludgeon Expertise gives a +1 feat bonus to number of squares pushed with weapon powers.

Rather than rewind a bunch, you can leave it as-is (I was iffy on the drawing of the OA anyway), but for future reference, Hagurr really likes to play "Bowling for Bad Guys."  I'll have to look into the party's area powers to mke sure it's mostly helpful.  Demon Dance is an alternate for when someone has to get away from trouble.

I've always wanted to play a pushy defender, but I had to search for one that could mark non-adjacent enemies - ta-da: the battlemind.

Flag Draidden April 10, 2012 11:58 AM PDT
My apologies. I did a quick scan of Hagurr and missed that.

Push Away!

I would not worry about changing any powers yet. You guys are still getting to know each others characters abilities. Once you all know what the others like to do you will start working together more effectively.
Flag Draidden April 10, 2012 3:42 PM PDT
I have been reading over some articles on Skill Challenges that have made me rethink how I am running them. So, the next one I run is going to be done differently. I will tell you that you are entering a skill challenge and if needed I will explain a bit of what you need to strive for. Just enough to get you going in the right direction. Other than that it will be up to you to RP the situation and give any rolls you feel appropriate, with an explanation of what you are trying to achieve if it is not clear in your RP writing.

This will put a little more pressure on me as I will need to improve my narrative writing skills and give you a little story about what effects your effort had.

The desired affect is to make the skill challenge seem more like simple role playing to you the players and to leave me to worry about the mechanics while you all have fun RPing. Hpefully this will make the games a bit more fun.
Flag Draidden April 10, 2012 5:33 PM PDT
In case you are having problems coming up with ideas on how to bar the door, keep in mind that though the latch is accessible form both sides, it is still just one latch. So you could try to use a Thievery check to jam the latch so it can't be moved.

Another option would be to jam items between the door and frame so the door cannot be moved.

I am hoping that the lack of posts is just from lack of ideas or I did not describe the doors properly and not form loss of players.
Flag shanizar April 11, 2012 1:38 AM PDT
The change to skill challenges sounds great. But I'm not sure I understand the last post... We're still in a fight right? And the doors are still closed?
Flag Draidden April 11, 2012 5:20 AM PDT

That is what I get for running 2 games. I put that post in the other one first and then copied it over and forgot to take out the parts that did not apply to you all.
Flag SirK8 April 14, 2012 10:50 AM PDT
@Draidden- Ok, I see where he is now, I thought he was in reach of my melee 2 spiked chain, that's why I opted for a melee instead of ranged attack. Normal movement won't get me any closer since I'm in rough terrain. Being a man of the shadows and an assassin by trade, Cross isn't too keen on this guy getting away and possibly raising an alarm, so he's willing to take some risk to stop that hobgoblin.

My other option was ranged attack w/a dagger. My question for you though, is I know it takes a minor action to draw the dagger, but I'm not sure what to do with the chain, realistically it makes sense that I could still hold on to the chain in one hand (just not use it) and still draw a dagger, but I'm not sure that works mechanically. So if that won't be allowed, I'll just use a free action to drop it.

I'll change my standard action to a ranged attack with a dagger (still poisoned strike), provoking an OA from the sharpshooter. If the OA attack hits and the damage is enough to bloody Cross, I'd like to use my immediate interrupt ability to activate Shade Form.

Since I already know that the attack from Cross is a crit, that may seem unfair to change it from melee to ranged, so let me know if you want me to reroll attack and damage. Basically Cross will do what he can to stop that guy from getting away.

Let me know if you're ok with those changes and I'll update my IC post. Thanks.
Flag Draidden April 15, 2012 1:53 PM PDT
I have no problem with you holding on to the chain with one hand instead of completely dropping it.

You are lucky in that it just occured to be that the goblin, if it is still alive, will not get an OA as it has a missile weapon in its hands and not a melee weapon.
Flag SirK8 April 15, 2012 2:46 PM PDT
LMAO - all that fuss, and I ended up using the chain on a different target anyway
Flag SirK8 April 17, 2012 6:56 AM PDT
What is the status of our other two players? I've not seen any posts from them since I've taken over Cross. Right now, Cross doesn't care which way we go since we have no idea where the prisoners are. I'd like to see some input from the other 2 as well, but if we don't hear from them, maybe we should proceed with Hagurr's "suggestion" of going through the right hand door.
Flag Draidden April 17, 2012 1:16 PM PDT
greymouse is on vacation until pretty much the end of the month. I just sent Layasa a PM inquiring as to her where abouts.
Flag Draidden April 19, 2012 12:24 PM PDT
I am posting this because I have seen this handled wrong in other games and I think I even hadnled it wrong in this one previously.

In the Rules Compendium it states that you get one OA per persons turn in a fight. But I see a lot of people using them as Immediate Interrups which limits you to one a round. Per what I find in the online Compendium Opportunity Attacks are not Immediate Interrupts, but are Opportunity Actions. And you get an Opportunity Action once per persons turn in a round, not once per round.

I kept having the same problem, but I think I finally figured out why they randomly stop working for me. Sometimes when I get an email alert regarding forum activity, I'll check it from my mobile phone. The problem is I'm usually not logged into the site, so it doesn't refresh the notification for that thread (I think a thread will only notify you once until you visit again).

To get around this sometimes I'll log into the site on my phone or I just remember to visit the thread again while I am logged in (actually, I don't "remember" that's a lie I keep my threads bookmarked and open them all at least once a day). Since I've adopted this, I've had very few problems with the notification system.

Flag Draidden May 1, 2012 5:34 AM PDT
Normally I let you guys make knowledge checks. I can make them if you all prefer and I can see where that would work a bit better if I do make them. It is your guys call.

As a player I like making most of the rolls for my character. So that is why I will let you all decide if I make knowledge rolls or if you do.

If you want to make them, then please go ahead and make them.
Flag shanizar May 1, 2012 11:36 PM PDT
I would normally like to roll myself, but then you need to say which rolls are needed for which monsters we meet. Other options would be that you roll and then either send each player a message with what they know or post the best result, assuming we tell each other.

Flag Draidden July 8, 2012 5:33 PM PDT
Will give Cailte a day or two to catch up and post for Cross.

With the summer breaks and other things going on do not get discouraged if there are several days with no new posts. I will be back and move it along when I get the time and energy.
Flag Cailte July 14, 2012 4:02 AM PDT
Cailte is now paying attention!

And is confused by the map vs the round summary as the positions don't seem to align.
Flag Draidden July 17, 2012 6:37 AM PDT
Sorry, I realised once you started asking baout locations, that I had not updated the coords next to the names. Sorry.
Flag Cailte July 18, 2012 6:43 AM PDT
Well I'm working on adjusting Cross to reflect my interpretation of the character more. The fluff is adjusted & the heart of his mechanics are in, I just need to add the rest of the crunchy details. So once Draidden says the rules changes are good he'll be ready to go.

@Draidden:
Is this the time for us new players get to adjusted our new acquired PCs?

If so...

On vacation with little to no 'net time for the next week.  Feel free to NPC as needed.
Flag AllGame1 July 20, 2012 6:15 AM PDT
Can all the new players change the character's summaries we using? And if so, what's the restrictions on the changes we can make with the character's summaries?
Flag Cailte July 22, 2012 3:44 AM PDT
Well Cross is updated.

To all, I apologize for my absence and regret to say that I currently do not have the drive or desire to get on these boards and post. I have enjoyed the game and efforts of you all and hope that at some time in the future I will come back. But for now I am putting this game on indefinite hold. I will contact you if and when i come back and see if you want to continue.

Again I am sorry for the trouble, but real life has left me with no drive to post lately.

Sorry to hear that Draidden, I've really enjoyed playing with you and having you as a DM. I understand that some times real life hits you in the face and doesn't care about your desire to play role playing games...

Hope to hear from you again!
Flag PapaMidnight July 30, 2012 11:02 AM PDT
Good luck and godspeed, Draidden.  I'll miss you as both player and DM.

A belated good luck from me too. Thx, even for the short time, I have found this game interesting and worth my time. Thank you again. V..
