Jonah is hesitant, but reaches for leather-bound book. He carries it with a firm, two-handed grip.
As they exit the house, Jonah proposes a next course of action. "I think we ought to get some sleep and meet somewhere private in the morning... perhaps Mr. Thornton's office." He doesn't say what he's thinking - that he'd rather not open this book until daybreak.
To Darcus, Jonah replies, "Silas hid them well, but he knew how to lead us to them."

sorry didn't add anything to the retreat outside. I assumed Al was following them outside. Al is not terribly pleased that Jonah has told Darcus that they have the book, but he stays silent on that opinion. He would have preferred they kept that secret given the desire the old fellow expressed earlier. Al speaks up, "Mr. Thornton's office is perfect. Hows 10am?"

Sorry, I should have just moved forward. If Al doesn't object, he'll take the two books unaccounted for (the green one with the newer cover and the beaten-up red one).
Darcus looks uncertainly at the books but says nothing. "You staying at the Boarding House?" he asks Henry as he and Jonah climb into the vehicle. When Henry nods, he pulls down the street and back towards town, Al behind on his motorcycle. The older man is silent through the car ride and there is a pregnant atmosphere in the small truck cab.
If anyone wants to leaf through the books they're holding or even start reading, just let me know. If you have any other checks to make, you can do that as well, using spoiler blocks as needed.
It's late by the time the truck pulls back into the parking lot of the Arkham Boarding House, a little after eight fifteen. There are restaurants open for dinner still but the streets are all but empty. It's autumn in New England and sunset comes fast and hard. "We can pick you back up here at nine thirty or so," Darcus lets Henry know as he stops the truck.
Did Al follow them back to the hotel? Is he taking his books with him back to Danvers? Is Jonah taking any books with him back to the farm near Aylesbury?

Henry beds down for the night, cradling his new book, Chaat Cthulu, or whatever it is called. It keeps him up for hours and hours; he wonders what its contents are, but does not open it. He would rather do that with Darcus and Al, in broad daylight. He finally falls into an uneasy sleep at 2.30, filled with strange dreams.

Once they are alone, Jonah can talk to his father directly. "You want to be there tomorrow morning?" On the drive Jonah can't help himself, he tells Darcus about the books, the statues Al mentioned and the strange maps. He listens to himself and realizes how crazy it sounds. "But I just can't believe Silas was off his rocker. When I met him, there was no sign.. but he must have been thinking about it. He must have seen something to give me this key, to leave the note behind him." It's late when they get in and Jonah gets Darcus to bed. He doesn't know what to do with the book and the key, so he puts them in the gun safe for the night. After checking the stock (cows milked, eggs taken in) he looks in on Darcus once more before heading off to bed himself.

Al returns to his condo and immediately throws on some music and pours himself a drink as he tries to make sense of the recent events. He sits on a leather couch feet propped on his coffee table with the two strange volumes he carried lieing in wait between his feet.
He is sorely tempted. Had this been a normal day, he would have already flipped through their pages to explore their mysteries. But the statue in the basement and the strange map above have him on edge. He wishes someone else was there with him, because of the strange dread he feels when looking at the books.
In the end he gulps down his drink and head off to bed, leaving leaving the books undisturbed.

I'm making an executive decision to avoid a long conversation with Jonah while the others are just sleeping...
After a long talk, Jonah and Darcus decide that the older man stay in Aylesbury the next day while Jonah returns to Arkham. Darcus seems distracted and quiet all evening, leading Jonah to suppose that the trip was a bit much for him. Better to take a day off anyways and Jonah can pick up the envelope that Silas left for his brother instead. Darcus seems to have no desire to return to Arkham, whatever his earlier talk of setting things a-right.
In the morning, Jonah pulls up to the Arkham Board House at nine twenty-five to pick up Henry. Al meets them at about the same time and they head over to Mr. Thornton's office just a few blocks to the east. They park on the street and head into the building, a charming colonial which looks more residential than business. The inside area is a small waiting room with a counter, filled with chairs and magazines. There is no receptionist at the counter, however, and click of the door doesn't bring any help either. The three men don't have an appointment but the offices are clearly open.
