At the mention of the daelkyr, Eberk feels a chill up his spine. In the time the he spent with the Gatekeepers the history of the order had come up from time to time, but now he isn't so sure just what is legend and what has basis in truth. " Ritualists? Orcish druids? You mean Gatekeepers, right?" He may not recall details of what probably happened all those years ago, but he is fairly sure that the original Gatekeepers were a level beyond what remains today. Good people, every one of them, but if this prophecy is true...what does it mean? Is it related to what we did Eldeen Reaches, where the land had blackened and warped? If this is all building to something..." Do," he starts, blinking rapidly before swallowing hard and continuing, " do you think that what this Prophecy says is actually happening now?"

Oh yeah, this group is crazy with scholar themes. Orand, Eegen, and Bosk all have that theme and Vul speaks Giantish (poor Eberk). All those characters can read the sounds out loud but the form is pretty ancient so let me know what section you're interested in (big orcish block, little orcish block, giantish runes, or goblin text) and a History check." Uh, yes. Gatekeepers," Tyne answers in an uncertain tone. " I never know what some people like to be called, but yes the Gatekeeper druids from the Age of Monsters." He puts the wooden piece down as Eberk continues. " If it's not happening now, it's happening soon. All the signs are there, but the dean and others won't believe me. He actually called it 'occultish nonsense,' as if I don't know the difference between arcane lore and folk superstitions." He looks around at the rest of the party with a prying expression. " You all believe me, don't you? After what you went through? You must." What Eberk knows
Show
The dwarf can't remember anything of relevance about the daelkyr, unsurprising considering how haphazard his education with the Gatekeepers was. He feels an eerie feeling looking at the drawing that Tyne has unfolded, however, and the crouched spider legs of the creature in the center. When Eberk was with the Gatekeepers here in Sharn tracking down the Cult of the Dragon Below that was trying to weaken dimensinoal seals, all of those depraved creatures had spider tattoos covering the backs of their hands. He couldn't understand why, but now things are starting to come together.

Vul, intrigued by the presence of old giantish runes, so much so that the full effect of what the professor is saying hasn't truly come home to him, peers closer at the ink sketch. He mutters the sounds out loud as he tries to puzzle out their meaning. Oddly, the dialect is newer than the runes he learned on back in Xend'rik. History check 1d20+13=21

Bosk's mind flits back to the aberrations he confronted in Droaam. Had they seemed unusually keen? It was hard to tell. Everything aberrations did was unusual. Shaking his head softly, Bosk reads the goblin runes, the old dialects of his people coming easily to him now. "I believe you, Mennin." He says softly. "The Kuul'Koldaan...it seems I might make a habit out of putting old artifacts together."mechanics

Eegen glares at Bosk as he takes away the wine glass. He's about the lay into the researcher with a litany of curses when Tyne enters. Not wanting to be thrown out again he mumbles under his breath "Blasted hack of a writer" and then bites his tongue to cut off any further derogatory comments. He listens to Tyne and his fears and is instantly on board with the scholar, eagerly grasping hold of his suggestion that evil is about to be released upon the world. "Of course. Demise was just a prelude to the true threat!" Eegen begins to recall all of the wild theories that he'd considered that were rudely rebuked by contemporaries. He begins to see a pattern that he's never noticed before correlating goblinoid history, sigils of binding and abjuration and the items Tyne has laid before them. "It fits! Everything fits! We can't wait a moment longer... wait.. what's this say??"Eegen suddenly becomes engrossed in the small orcish text Tyne has pointed out. History Check. Arcana Check (1d20+18=32, 1d20+20=39)

Bosk cuffs Eegen's ear slightly. "You haven't even read it, pintsize." He then returns his attention to the matter at hand.

What Vul Knows
Show
The giantish runes are newer and make reference to "Three Kings" who authorized the binding of the daelkyr lord by "his priests." The priests seem to indicate the Gatekeeper druids in the scene but the priests are not Gatekeepers and seem to be some over-seeing entity. Vul's historical knowledge is mostly focused on the Age of Giants so he can't make much of this. He does note that the dialect, though more recent than that of Xen'drik, is closer to the runes of the southern continent and not the less-elaborate characters he's seen in modern orcish writings in the Dura neighborhoods of Sharn. What Bosk Knows
Show
The hobgoblin scholar reads the goblin text surrounding the figures and determines that they are names or at least titles of the figures depicted there. He recognizes Dhakaani terms for Gatekeeper druids and the goliath tribes west of the Empire (goliaths are called huul'der in Dhakaani goblin) who apparently were present at the defeat of Mise-Kah. He also sees that the text refers to the daelkyr lord as Miska, but he assumes its the same creature. At the top of the scene is a female hobgoblin warrior labeled "Ashurta" who apparently led the battle to defeat Mise-Kah (or Miska) and this is counted among one of her great victories, though Bosk has never seen it mentioned before and he's done some considerable research on the warrior woman since their trip into Undersharn. Based on the vocabulary and style of the inscriptions, Bosk would put the carving of this scene during the Khragec Dynasty which would be soon after Ashurta's death. What Eegen Knows
Show
Eegen looks over the orcish glyphs on the side and notes some of the prophetic imagery that Tyne noted. More strikingly, though, he seems some of the same strange constellation symbols that he ans Ash'tek of Fairhaven noted on their trip into the Eldritch Groves some months ago, on that fateful trip where they encountered the dragon. He would need to check their notes to see if they are exactly the same constellation markers but the prominent symbol next to it is also intriguing. See below. Rather than dismiss the gnome, Tyne nods vigorously and points out the same symbol. It looks like two sharp mountain peaks over three curved lines like a basin or steps, and is slightly larger than the other glyphs in the block. " I'm not sure," the professor admits, " I'm not an expert in glyphic writings and I've gotten about as far as I can with the inscriptions already. I'm hoping you can take a copy of these to our friend Ash'tek at Wynarn." He bites his lip and looks slighlty embarrassed. " I was afraid to send these by courier. I've felt so alone with this knowledge." Tyne's eyes glisten slightly as he takes a deep breath. " Host, I've felt like I'm going crazy reading all these things. None of the other faculty believe me, I've been pouring over dusty manuscripts and awful research for scraps of clues... Aureon's eyes! Last week I thought I was being followed home but it turned out to be some lost tourist who thought I was coming to the university!" A hysterical giggle escape's Tyne's lips before he collects himself and wipes away the tears with the back of a hand. " Captain Kalaes didn't take me seriously either, but he also wanted me to stop writing you all letters about the research. I didn't want to but I was worried about the Citadel reading my notices or something." He sits back on the floor looking exhausted. " Oh gods, what a mess." Captain Kalaes is the one who connected you with the Wordbearers when you first came back from Ashurta's tomb. He works for the King's Citadel.

"Probably be good to get it out of mind, then. I don't know about the rest, but I don't see the harm in acting like a courier, especially not if what you think is happening has a chance to."
The dwarf is trying his best to be genial, but he is deeply concerned about how things seem to be happening, even without being able to make heads or tails of the writings. Things aren't sitting right, and it is probably showing. 'If he's feelin' watched here in Morgrave, I'd hate to see him in Fairhaven. There are eyes watching you there,' Eberk thinks, remembering his limited experiences in Aundair, or at least the civilized portions of it.
'Course, Kalaes and the Citadel probably were reading his notices. Wouldn't put it past them. Could be problems depending on how many people know what. Might get really bad if two groups of spies are paying attention to us.
"Say, you haven't contacted Ashtak about any of this like you did with us, have you?"

The writings Vul has deciphered hint at a giantish civilization during the Age of Monsters. This would be the first he has heard of it, though something must have survived the sundering of Xend'rik. Perhaps this was some remnant? Intrigued, Vul begins sifting through the material available looking for other clues. Perception check 1d20+14=31

Bosks mind races to make sense of the situation. Initially he was excited to find out that the sealing of Miska was another accomplishment of Ashurta, an undiscovered bit of lore. But something didn't add up. The university should be pleased that Mennin uncovered it, not dismissing it and calling it nonsense. It was, to Bosk, not an issue up for debate that the daelkyr were real and a terrible threat in their time. Could the university be trying to cover it up somehow? The mere thought lit a small flame of anger in Bosk's heart. "Mennin," he says softly, "are you quite sure no one is listening in on us, or should we step out for lunch?"
