From back in Toras' chamber Jin guesses the cables running along the walls are arcane energy conduits, used for the express purpose of transferring magical power across distances. He thinks he's seen their like in a Cannith workshop or two.

If Jin passes through the door, make an Endurance check for him!

"I'll go ahead and see if our next host is as inviting as Toras." Jin takes on a shadowy appearance as he moves through the doorway and into the hall, once again preparing himself for bleeding in his ears... Endurance 22 He then slinks down the hallway cautiously looking for trouble.

Can Jin pretend to be a warforged?

Still working on level 10.

Sartz: Do you want to get furtive Signals? I might get Thief Specialist.

Jin also passes through the new doorway unharmed to enter the foreign, cable ridden corridor. Following Jayden and Dioban's gaze to the right, the changeling carefully makes his way along and around the gentle bend.

It continues its arc for about fifty feet until it ends in an opening to a larger chamber. The small mobile rolling construct Jayden and Dioban spotted earlier enters the room and quickly disappears from view behind some of the large workshop devices it contains - an elevated vat with steam rising from its top, an industrial sized press, workbenches, and a variety of other tools.

Because warforged physiology is so different to regular humanoids it is difficult to assume a convincing appearance. It usually works best where close inspection is avoided. So in summary, yes he can but with a -10 penalty to his check

Before moving out of site, Jin smiles back to his companions as his form shifts and hardens into the metallic bronze of a warforged.

I rolled a 21 before, but here is another roll. Also a 21

Jin's disguise is +15 including the -10. I'll let you roll that in private I suppose to keep it secret.

Yep, I think this is definitely Metrol. It's probably not coincidental that we're rapidly approaching paragon level which is the tier that the Mournlands are set in...

Nikos glances at Jin with a mixed expression. "You may be right, Jayden," he says cautiously. Nikos is simultaneously excited and nervous about the prospect. Being transported into a Cannith vault was a dream in many ways, not least because of the intelligence it could afford to House Orien. This was a complex thought in itself given the recent family issues that arose in Korth, but it sure beat the chaos of thoughts that were attached to thoughts about the Mournlands. Everyone had an emotional response to the Day of Mourning but arcanists had a special sinking feeling thinking of all the lost arcane lore in the Cannith stronghold in Metrol. Not all of these are friendly, of course, and they had no idea what Anaqiss had done here either. "Let's be careful we don't disturb anything and try to stay within sight of each other."

I'll update Nikos soon with some new artificer abilities. For paragon path, I'm thinking battle engineer, arcane armorer, or spell commander. Something defensive and leader-like.

Background Show
Background
The Couriers Guild serves many clients, and their needs are as diverse as the neighborhoods of Sharn. Sometimes, delivery of an item requires more security than speed. At those times, House Orien calls upon the services of Jayden Orien. While Jayden does not bear a dragonmark, he is one of the house's most effective couriers. Quick, strong, and tough, he has gained a reputation for fighting off the bandits and spies who seek to intercept particularly valuable deliveries.

Jayden, however, harbors a secret. As the child of two dragonmarked nobles, he was expected to bear a mark of his own. His adolescence came and went, and no mark emerged. This drove him to pursue the training in self-defense that differentiated him as a courier, but still he longed to possess the supernatural speed of an heir of the Mark of Passage. Every night for five years he dreamed of the mark's power. On the morning of his 20th birthday, the dream became a reality. He found he could sprint like a dragonmarked courier, his feet barely touching the ground as he ran. He searched his body for the mark, but could find none.

When Jayden announced his new power, the house honored it as a lesser gift of Siberys. He was given the mark of a sorcerer, a red tattoo imitating the least Mark of Passage. This pleased Jayden, but it did not end his dreams. Over time he developed new abilities: the ability to imbue his strikes with invisible but deadly energy, the ability to manipulate and alter his body's size and composition, and the ability to ignore serious wounds. He has begun to suspect that his powers are born in his mind and dreams rather than any blessing from Siberys, but he knows nothing of psionics. At first, he chose to conceal his new abilities, appreciate the fact that they make him a better courier, and explore other ways to harness his force of will.

When the couriers travelled with Lady Tsai to Dal Quor, the realm of dreams, Jayden was shocked to discover he had lost hold on the powers he had wielded with the strength of his drams and will. The experience left him devastated and resigned to meditation until he could find a cause and cure.  That he failed the Test of Siberys in his adolescence still haunts Jayden, and he is utterly devoted to surpassing the abilities of his marked brethren with or without the blessing of Siberys.

Details about his Package Show
The Package:
Jayden's week has been like any other: days full of successful deliveries, nights enjoying the entertainment to be found in Lower Menthis, and a handful of fights that ended with his foes running for their lives. Upon arriving at the house enclave, however, he found his supervisor speaking with a new client, a tall woman of unearthly beauty. He knew her immediately by reputation as Helkashtai, aide to the Riedran ambassador. Before Jayden could even speak, the exotic woman turned to him and pointed. "I want him. He will take the package to Korth."

The supervisor stammered a response about Jayden being an excellent courier but not one who travels outside of Sharn. She ignored him, producing two scroll cases and handing one to Jayden. "You will present this to Desmun ir'Tarrn, an architect who lives in Karrnath's capital city. This second scroll is a decoy. Keep both hidden, but leave the decoy in plainer view."

Each scroll case holds a set of architect's designs and a half-dozen spindle-shaped crystals, which glow with an inner light. The blueprints in the decoy show designs for a fortress; the blueprints in the original show designs for an exotic monolith. Neither design interests Jayden, but he assumes the gems are particularly precious and he is careful to follow Helkashtai's advice.

UPDATE: Jayden delivered the package to Vulnar Seerak of the Twelve in Korth for investigation into their possible use in a doomsday weapon of some sort.  He then recovered them for use in a Kalashtar dreamwalk ritual with Lady Tsai, wherein the couriers travelled to Dal Quor to free a lost Kalashtar spirit.  While the experience sapped his powers of will, since then, Jayden has become enamored with Lady Tsai and her new Kalashtar 'roommate', seeking to glean from them all he can about advancing his internal powers to the next level.

The Questions (original answers) Show
The Questions:
* How did the Last War affect him? As a child, Jayden grew up with the war as a fact of life. His adult life has been spent almost entirely within Sharn, however. His greatest exposure to conflict was within Sharn's immigrant neighborhoods. His neutral house status and his talent with a blade meant he was often picked for deliveries into or out of High Walls.
* What are his religious beliefs, if any? Jayden is disenchanted with traditional religion. He believes his obligations are to House Orien and his power comes from himself. He has a casual interest in the Blood of Vol, but has never attended actual services.
* Does he have any enemies, and if so, how did he come by them? Jayden always fights to subdue rather than kill his enemies as he travels through Sharn. As such, many of the bandits and thieves he has fought are still alive and keep a grudge.
* Does he have any old friends? He often finds himself confiding in a changeling escort named Jin, but Jayden's best friend is within the house. (I'd like to establish this with one of the other characters.)
How did he come by his alignment? Jayden can be a cynical and selfish person, but he has a strong sense of honor and obligation. His respect of "law" is a reflection of this duty-bound mentality rather than for the laws of a specific nation. Indeed, while theft and murder are beneath him, he sometimes uses dreamilily and partakes in the pleasures of Firelight. He can certainly be counted on, and on important issues he errs on the side of good.
* How did he come by his classes, and what do his classes mean to him? While Jayden isn't a soldier or mercenary, he certainly thinks of himself as a "fighter" in addition to his profession as a courier. He wears armor that's protective but isn't too obvious and doesn't slow him down. He carries whatever weapon is legal in the district he's traveling to, even if it's just a rod of polished wood to use as a nightstick. He received the formal training of a noble's son and the informal training of Sharn's most rough-and-tumble neighborhoods. His psionic abilities are a mystery to him, and he's spent considerable time trying to refine them.
* Does the character have any long-term personal goals? Jayden primarily hopes to improve his position in the house and enjoy the fruits of his labor. At the same time, he is fascinated by his psionic abilities and would like to pursue them further, both for practical purposes and for the thrill of discovery.

He is bald with his scalp proudly displaying the tattooes bestowed upon him by Orien leadership to exemplify the "Lesser Gift of Siberys" that are evident in his unusual abilities, despite his shocking lack of the Mark of Passage.  His muscles are not neccessarily pronounced more than an average person's, but he can will them to take on the appearance and solidity of stone or steel, and he can expand his body to the proportions of a giant when needed.  Since Dal Quor, he has been exploring ways to hone his body manipulation abilities to combine powerfully with martial techniques he was forced to employ. He has stolen some tricks from close observation of and engagement with Ze the fey quickling.

From what Jin can see, the workshop appears to be in immaculate condition. The floor and equipment is clean, though the floor is etched in a strange criss-cross pattern, tools are in their place, and the lighting is excellent. Looking closer, some of the work in progress does seem to be warforged like in form but quite exotic and unlike anything he's ever seen before.

Bracing himself for the worst, a wave of excruciating pain washes over Carhian when he passes through the doorway. He stumbles a few steps but recovers quickly from the ordeal (Carhian has lost 1 healing surge)

Much like Jin, Carhian joins the changeling a ways down the corridor and notices the impressive condition of the workshop. He's never known a 'working' Cannith facility or any other place of industry to be so sterile and orderly. It makes him wonder if it's only recently been completed or never really used.

A little help - what does the feat Thief Specialist do? Since I'm letting other players swap out multiple powers, it seems only fair to allow the same option to everyone this time around

Thief Specialist lets him take a daily power that allows him to attack and pick pockets during combat. The only bummer is he would lose his best daily. I might actually swap that feat for Furtive Signals, but only if Carhian takes it too.

Uncomfortable not being on the frontline, and itching for action, Jayden shifts his weight between his feet lightly and edges minutely down the hall, conscious of his lack of subtlety.  Looking at Dioban and the others, he only grins flexing muscles, brashly excited at what such a potentially exotic locale could throw at them.

Sartezalb said Carhian would take Furtive Signals if Jin does.

Not that Jayden knows about the sprites even, but perhaps Nikos would think to use the dead sprite as a noble sacrifice to enable Anaqiss' Marvelous Transposition to send Eurydice and the last sprite to the Eldeen Reache (or wherever she wants to go) bc the 2nd sprite probably won't fare well through another life-stealing door.  He's smart and still intrigued by the ritual.

Carhian took in his surroundings while moving down the hall in a rakishly casual saunter. "For a machinist's workshop, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of ...machining here. That little guy we saw earlier notwithstanding, this place is too clean. Like they didn't get any work done around here. Maybe the owners didn't get a chance to play around with it after the Mournlands bit the cog."

Carhian had another thought and stopped. It was bizarre, but given the past few hours..."Or...someone's been here the whole time...through all that crap that happened out here...and they just finished setting up shop." He stomps his way towards the workshop.

Ze hops up and down at the doorway, scratching and flecking the frame with his knife in part excitement, part frustration. It seems he wants to follow but is a little fearful of the consequences.

Va-Guulgh, Jayden, and Jin all enter the workshop and glance about. A fifteen feet high, tapered circular room about sixty feet in diameter, the workshop contains various workstations for specific tasks - an elevated vat of used to pour molten metal into castings, a sizeable press to punch out and bend materials, an acid bath to polish metal, and various other benches and smaller devices used in the artificer's craft.

At the left and right most ends of the workshop stand two great big metal double doors that face one another. At the opposite end from the couriers, two smaller doors and a glass window make up the features of the wall.

Through the window they spy a small room with a young lady lying motionless on a steel table. She is bound in place by padded straps fastened about her forehead, throat, waist, and ankles. Tubes containing liquid run into her forearm and torso, attached to needles inserted her veins. The glowing liquid pulses through the tubes, fed through the bottles slung about metal hangers. One tube, the largest, is inserted into her mouth and attached to a bellows that works slowly and steadily by her side.

Wires run to her temples, eyes, and throat, chest, and loins, even to the fingers of her hands, black snakes ending in suckers fastened to her skin. The wires connect to a bank of clear glass containers. Flashes of blue surge into the reddish liquid in concert with the blue glow of a large dragonmark on her leg.

The small construct they were in pursuit appears to have disappeared somewhere.

Jayden has the annoying feeling that he's being watched but has no idea where his audience might be.

"Argh." Va-Guulgh grunts in anger. "More doors."

Woah, definitely caught my attention there.  I want to press on and hear more from you of what we uncover as quickly as possible, but I also don't want to leave the others in the dust.  Would it be possible for Nikos to activate Anaqiss' Marvelous Transposition with the dead sprite to send Eurydice and the other sprite, and any others wanting to go, to some forest like the Eldeen Reaches? (Nikos's not interested in that) From what he knows would that be possible?  Or would it take mastering the ritual = 8 hours?

Other semi-awkward clarification, considering Jayden's reaction given his historical and universal weakness for women: Is she, you know, covered?  Also, aside from all the machinery, would he consider her attractive by standard measures?

Jayden feels something observing him, and squints around the room to locate it. "We're being watched," he mutters under his breath, trying not to interfere with Jin and Carhian's stealthy investigation.

Seeing the woman's body bizarrely strapped and wired in the room beyond, however, swiftly arrests all of Jayden's attention. "Khyber" he quietly swears as Va-Guulgh tromps loudly into the workshop. Scanning rapidly around the room one last time, he quickly returns his eyes to the woman through the window and crosses the workshop in long strides to stand against the window further taking in the wretched process marring the delicate feminine frame. His mind races as he shakes his focus from the contours of her body to the apparati enveloping her, chiding himself to overcome his perennial weakness for the female form: Focus man. Is she dead? Whatever all that rig is doing would be pointless if she's dead, right? ...  Whether or not this is Metrol, this place is definitely not abandoned. Someone must be supplying this dame anyhow, and from the feeling in my gut, I'd wager there's someone other than Anaqiss involved with this. Indignation rises forcefully in his throat at the thought of the Master misusing this lady for his twisted purposes, and he clenches his weapon as well as his jaw, imagining her eyes wide and terrified before the damn wizard. Jayden's anger mixes with curiosity once his gaze finally reaches her legs and the dragonmark. Fickle Siberys, you certainly look out for your own don't you? His mind scoffs as his emotions become strange.

Whoah. Managed to submit my  Master thesis to my graduation committee so sort of have the week off  now. Going to catch up. Rogesh lvl 10 is in the first post, currently as  CB print out but will try to make it a nice post. Going to dig around  for his original background since I seemed to have lost that. Will do a  quick double take on the action and then will resume from here, giving  Rogesh a slight silent streak.

======Earlier in the sandstorm room======
As  Jayden invites Rogesh to train he smiles and nods. Extending his little  arm he uses his fingers to taunt Jayden into making the first move. As  the battle unforls it appears Jayden isn't the only one who has improved  his technique. The nimble halfling seems to have develoepd a tight  defense, warding off  and dodging blows left and right that would have  hit a lesser man. To top it all off he suddenly rolls through Jaydens  leg, coming up behind him and punching him hard in the kidney. He holds  the punch still connects. Panting and taking in gulps of air he smiles:
"We should do this more often. I like your new style."

======In the Cannith laboratory======
Rogesh sneaks after the others, peering around the post into the large room. He whistles between his teeth and thinks:
"Nice place, never been into one of these before. Lots of hinding places and great for an ambush."

Kith, do the tracks continue through the room or fork off?

Nikos trails at the end of the group, examining walls with exacting attention. He had always pictured the tunnels of a Cannith stronghold to be like some complex in an Aundairian intrigue: all hidden doors and secret codes carved into niches. There would be no masked counts jumping out of these hallways, though, unless he could walk through solid stone.

When he reaches the circular chamber, Nikos feels instantly silly for his previous examinations. He's been at the back running his hand over solid rock for clues and here is a room with so many things to look at it makes him a little dizzy. First things first, though. "Is she alive, Jayden?" he asks in a low tone. He hears Rogesh's worry about ambushes but doesn't respond direcly. "I can't decide if this is a medical treatment or a medical experiment. Maybe both."

I think it's an Arcana check to identify a dragonmark, Nickbeat. Nikos gets a 17. Not great, but hopefully enough given the level of secrecy...

The couriers move further into the workshop towards the large glass window and the motionless woman. Recognition flares in Nikos' mind - Garsaysa! Now that they are closer all onlookers recognise her dragonmark as a Orien dragonmark.

One of the two closed single doors on the same wall as the adjoining window provides access to the room. However, a curious panel of symbols is set into the outer wall besides it.

While Jayden fumbles with the symbolled panel next to the door, Jin keeps an eye out for the small construct they spied earlier. However, it is nowhere to be seen. The cables in this chamber not only run along the walls, like the corridor they just exited but on the ceiling as well.

Depressing one of the symbolled panels back lights the image. Pressing another does the same but triggers a deafening waxing and waning claxon that emanates from somewhere hidden in the room.

Threads of fire lance out simultaneously from the varous points on the ceiling, narrowly missing Va-Guulgh, Dioban and Carhian. It is more accurate against Jayden, Rogesh, and Jin, searing them with a focused line of fire (8 damage each, though Jayden's Battle Resilience kicks in to reduce this to 1 damage).

Small wall compartments at floor level flip open and a small army of constucts wheel out to form a perimeter around the workshop.

Man, well Nikos is at 5 healing surges then, after healing up from last battle.

Nikos feels a sharp panic come over him as he sees Garsaysa's face. What is she doing here? What were these machines connected to her? The blaze of emotions was even stronger than the fiery Cannith trap, but Nikos responds more immediately to the attack.
"Scatter!" he shouts and throws down a liquid that spreads as an ethereal mist, moving his friends. As Jayden moves towards Carhain and Dioban slides into a flanking position against one of the constructs, Rogesh rushes another construct and Nikos follows right behind. "Get behind!" he calls to the halfling as he thrusts forward with his rapier while eyeing the fire trap behind the thing for weaknesses. Neither maneuver is very successful as Nikos struggles for concentration. What is she doing here?

Minor: New silk concotion power. Everyone within 3 squares (Jayden, Rogesh, and Dioban) gets slid 5 squares. I'm choosing Jayden-L9, Rogesh-H5, and Dioban-S10 unless you guys object.
Move: I6
Standard: Magic weapon with transference rapier. Attack 17 vs AC, damage 7. Link. Those are almost the worst rolls I could have made.
If that attack somehow hits, Rogesh gains a +1 bonus to attack and damage.

Arcana check to see how to disable fire thread turrets. 15. I'm starting to take this personally.

Nice ideas Mephit - terrible execution! You need new online dice

The couriers move about the workshop to more advantageous positions against the constructs. Nikos uses the flurry of activity as cover to attack the dog-like-wheeled construct but his sword slides off its tough metal frame (miss!), though the constructs themselves don't appear to primarily designed for combat.

With his concentration in more places than he can handle at the moment, no immediate ideas come to Nikos on how best to disable or destroy the six circular nozzle discs on the ceiling that throw down lines of fire to the floor. Each leaves a tell tale score or line in the metal surface of the floor, adding to the many other hundreds of fine scorch marks already there.

Jin charges towards Carhian in mock robotic challenge, "Resistance is futile fleshbag." Feigning an attack and speeds past his companion and makes for the door to assess the panel.

Carhian can make a Stealth check to hide

Flicking the panel open reveals nine small eberron dragonshards that are connected to cables that run up and disappear behind the central metal pillar between the two single doors. The complicated array leaves Jin scratching his imitation warforged head.

Va-Guulgh
roars in defiance at the near miss by the line of fire and the ambushing constructs. Closing to the nearest construct (2) he raises both his fists and brings them down in a powerful 'thump', crushing the dog-like-construct where it stands (destroyed).

An Ally? Show

For now, yes

Jayden
looks over his shoulder without flinching as a gout of flame pours over  his back. At Nikos' command he backs  up from the door toward the equipment eyeing possibilities for their  tactical use.

He spies the lever to start the metal press but comes up short on ideas of how to disable the metal discs spouting the fire threads.

Nodding at  Carhian he says "Oy mate, I'll  clear out the back for ye, so they won't have us surrounded. How  d'ye reckon we can knock those nozzles out? My chain'll reach if I just  hit 'em."  Smiling again at having an excuse to hit stuff, Jayden  scoots past the acid bath toward Va-Guulth, nonchalantly dipping his  little finger in the acid as he passes to test its usefulness as a  weapon (Resist 7 still until end of turn) before leaping to stand tall  on the workbench beside it.

Anyone fully submerged in the acid bath takes ongoing 15 acid damage (save ends)

Then, apparently satisfied with his  acid plan, he reaches back with his arm and funnels a burst of mental  focus into the sinews, tendons, and bones to sling it forward toward the  construct between Nikos and Rogesh, once again stretching like  rubber beyond any healthy human capacity. With a roar he slings the end  of his chain around its neck and body and uses the momentum of his arm's  return to heft its metallic weight off the floor toward him.  Spinning  in a wide arc with expert precision, he deftly yanks the construct's  momentum over the acid vat and releases his grip, letting it fall free  to sizzle and burn in the caustic liquid.

"Whoho! Not made for battle are ye?"
Jayden  taunts as his eyes gleam with the thrill of contest and hops off the  workbech looking eagerly at the rest of the constructs in the room and  gives a roaring laugh at Dioban's successful bladestorm at the opposite  end of the room. "Nicely done Dioban!" He raises his head like a wolf to the moon, snarling and teasing the  constructs around him, fluidly swinging his chain and steel-arm  shield menacingly to draw attention and dampen whatever spirits they may  have. "Aha! Come on ye tin cans, bite me if ye dare."

The acid works quickly on the construct (1), bubbling away its shiny metal hide and dissolving its internal wooden components (destroyed)

Carhian
uses Jin's antics to disappear from view. Bringing his crossbow to bare, he unloads a bolt into the nearest nozzle shooting the fire threads and destroys it in a single blow (20 damage - note* these active 'traps' are not minions)

Hide check (courtesy of Jin's distraction) 1d20+18=21

"We are making friends already" Dioban remarks as the constructs attack.  Drawing his swords in a flash, he lays into the machine closest.

His skillful attack makes short work of the nearest construct (7), reducing it to scrap metal, stone, and wood in two quick strokes (destroyed).

Note* As a result of their  attacks the couriers discern that the constructs aren't particularly  resistance to violence (i.e. in effect they are minions).

Rogesh charges the remaining construct on the courier's side of the workshop (8) and knocks it over with a flying kick, smashing it into the press (destroyed)

Charge Basic Melee 1d20+15=23, 1d8+7=12

Amongst the hive of activity inside the workshop, the second single door slides open. A warforged like creature stands before Nikos - Felevar! What was once Felevar is beyond imagining. Cobbled together from flesh, bone, wood, and metal he hears something humming within the man's chest. With legs, and left arm comprised of metal he has struts hinged at the elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles attached by ball joints set into sockets surrounded by cables of wood that run up and down their length like human arteries and veins.

What remained of the old Felevar forms the right arm and face. His metal capped head is set into a high collar. His right arm grips a sword.

The warforged Felevar steps forward towards Nikos, the eyes look out from its prison - frantic, pleading, desperate for release. It's movements betray whatever thoughts are seen in its gaze as it hacks at the courier again and again in rapid succession (16 damage). Brutally, the creature knocks Nikos flat on his back (15 damage and prone) and then kicks him along the ground for good measure (15 damage), issuing a Warrior's Challenge to Jin, Carhian, and Rogesh (all Marked, including Nikos)

The Constructs surge forwards towards their nearest foes. Va-Guulgh is bitten but Carhian and Dioban prove to be elusive targets.

Fire Threads lance out from the ceiling once more creating lines of fire to the metal floor. Jayden, Carhian, Dioban and Va-Guulgh are all struck (8 fire damage).

The sides of the acid bath only  rise a couple of feet off floor, however the base of the steaming vat is  suspended well off the floor- about 8ft. Chains near it are used to move it  along a ceiling gantry and tip its contents into the moulds below.

The press isn't currently in  operation, though some time spent looking might locate its trigger. The  press looks like it uses a large force to bend metal than many smaller  'punches' that a printing press might use

Nice work Dioban!

Grinning ear to ear upon realizing his rushed fumbling with the door brought an occassion to exercise his newest take on mastering his body, Jayden looks over his shoulder without flinching as a gout of flame pours over his back. (Resist 7 damage, so only take 1) At Nikos' command he backs up from the door toward the equipment eyeing possibilities for their tactical use. (Perc on the press for an activation switch and on flame thread discs for a way to knock them offline: Perception (1d20+9=17) Arcana -fire threads (1d20+4=16))

Remembering tactics they used to employ when Derrigan was with them, Jayden extends his awareness to incorporate and watch out for Carhian. Nodding at Carhian he says "Oy mate, I'll clear out the back for ye, so they won't have us surrounded. How d'ye reckon we can knock those nozzles out? My chain'll reach if I just hit 'em."  Smiling again at having an excuse to hit stuff, Jayden scoots past the acid bath toward Va-Guulth, nonchalantly dipping his little finger in the acid as he passes to test it's usefulness as a weapon (Resist 7 still until end of turn) before leaping to stand tall on the workbench beside it.

They were past the point of talking their way out of this, and it wasn't likely there was anyone to even talk to. Normally his job was to get in and out without triggering such a response, and if it were just him he would be leaving right about now. But considering the situation, he thought perhaps he would stay and see if he could help Nikos with the door.

DM Ghost Posting Show
I would have really like to have had Mephit post to play up the RP aspect of this combat with Felevar. With a little luck he'll duck his head in before the combat is over. Until then, for the benefit of everyone else I'll post Nikos and Rogesh's actions this turn on behalf of Mephit and Magicstar and keep my fingers crossed that they'll be good to go in Rnd 3

"Forgive me brother." Nikos says, scrabbling to his feet. He hurls a sigil scribed sphere at the half-warforged Felevar. The sphere covers it in a film of acid but has little effect (miss). However, the sphere expands to encompass Jin and Jayden, granting them temporary resistance to fire (resist 5 fire until Eo Nikos NT)

Runic Resistance attack 1d20+11=17, 2d6+6=12

"Initiate teleportation sequence..." Jin continues his mockery of constructs as he knows them. In a wisp of  black smoke, he streams into the doorway behind Felevar as a terrible  chill envelops his twisted form (19 cold damage, 2 shrouds).

Va-Guulgh picks up the remnants of the construct he just flatten and uses it throw down on top of the newest construct (3) to attack him. Both constructs break under the impact (destroyed)

Jayden spins on his heels and charges with a another roar at the  twisted, inhuman warforged-wanna-be battering Nikos. Watching Jin  prepare a shadow trick from the other direction, Jayden deflects to the  side, moving with a burst of speed resembling Ze his previous playmate.  Before anyone can react, Jayden's speed causes it to appear as though he is both swinging his chain across the warforged's face and warding off the constructs harrying Carhian.

As  time seems to slow around him, Jayden glances at Nikos to immediately  assess his condition before moving over to protect Carhian. He shouts to  Felevar, "I am your opponent, brute, can ye keep up?" His chain then harries the pseudo-warforged's legs, making movement difficult (12 and 7 damage, cannot shift).

After dodging the constructs' last attack, Carhian followed through his  motion to slink past the two constructs and lay himself flat against the  corner of the press. After loading his crossbow and making a quick  assessment of the situation, Carhian opted to harass the new mechanical  conglomerate - it looked like some of his new comrades would need the  distraction.

Before he even saw the crossbow bolt hit, he kept  moving, finally rolling around to the workbench out of sight. He looked  over at Dioban and flashed a sardonic grin. "Fun stuff around the corner. You should check it out."

The bolt buries itself deep in the construct Felevar's leg (25 damage), though the creature seems to be aware of of Jayden's presence at the periphery of the melee.

He knew his fighting style looked like cowardice, but over the years, he'd learned not to care.

Dioban removes the dog-construct's (6) head with simultaneous horizontal sword strikes to its neck (destroyed)

With his fighting style best suited to multiple opponents, Rogesh jumps into the midst of the two remaining dog-constructs. His Storm of kicks, punches, and slams cause plenty of dings and dints but does not disable either (miss, miss)

Five Storms attack 1d20+12=17, 1d6+7=12, 1d20+12=20, 1d6+7=10

Warforged Felevar changes its focus from Nikos to Jayden despite Jin and Carhian's sneaky interruptions. The hybrid warforged moves quickly and with great power, battering Jayden's chain wrapped shield arms (18 damage). It lashes out with its off hand, knocking the courier to the ground (10 damage, prone).

Repeating the same manoeuvre it performed against Nikos, it kicks the adjacent Jayden to the acid bath curb (push 2, 21 damage). The courier bangs up against the side but catches himself before he tumbles over the edge into the acid.

Jayden's Saving Throw 1d20=14

With the nearest Jayden removed, it whirls around to confront Jin but finds that its sword largely passes through Jin's Shade Form without the much resistance (8 damage, already halved)

The remaining Constructs bite and nip at Rogesh but the halfling is far to nimble to be caught by their clumsy attacks (miss, miss)

Five more Fire Threads are emitted from the ceiling down at the couriers. Their accuracy is unnerving. Jadyen is partially protected by Nikos' magic (3 damage) but Rogesh and Dioban aren't so lucky (8 damage to each). Nikos has one eye on the sky and times his moment to avoid the lance while Va-Guulgh steps in front of a ruined construct for temporary cover.

Round 3

Nikos stands reeling on numb legs, blood pouring down half his face from Felevar's blow. "Forgive me brother,"  he mumbles again, though too low for anyone to hear. Somewhere in the  distance, Jin is yelling at him. Something about his grandmother, lying  on the table with cables running into her like a lightning rail engine.  Had Felevar done this to her? What had driven him to it? Nikos should  have been here, helping his brother and even Garsaysa. He had just found  these family and he had ignored them until things had come to this. "Forgive me brother." It was all he could think, all he could do not to run at Felevar and beg to let him take it all back.

That's not Felevar. The sudden thought is like a bolt of lightning, shocking Nikos back to reality. "Forg-" he starts, then moves backwards away from the half-warforged which was once Felevar. "On it, Jin. Cover my back."  He hurls a ball of lightning at some of the remaining constructs, disabling both (hit, hit), and  tries to get to a safe position while he looks at the tubing.

Lightning Sphere attack roll vs. 2nd Dog Construct 1d20+11=30

Nikos believes most of the wires and tubes connected to Garsaysa can be removed without causing undue harm. However, she is clearly unconscious and the large tube and connecting bellows is regulating her breathing. Bringing her round safety would require closer attention (and a heal check).

Jin remains engaged with Felevar for the moment as shadows whirl around the transformed cyborg. He turns to ask, "Nikos, tell me how to disable that that thing connected to her!"

While a cool idea I don't think he can pass under the door in this instance. I've changed my mind, the gap under the door is large enough for Jin to pass through.

It's not terribly complicated to remove most of the wires and tubes from Garsaysa but as I outlined above, the tube associated with her breathing will require some skill. Also due to the sheer volume of wires and tubes it will be a multi round task for one person to fully free from just the mundane tubes and wires

Disappearing under the door, Jin slowly materialises in the windowed room with the unconscious wired woman (counting it as two move actions to squeeze).

Va-Guulgh retreats away from the combat to the western double doors and begins searching

Not fast enough to dodge the constructs blows but swift enough to  flow with the momentum, Jayden rolls to his feet, the image by the  constructs shimmering away in the speed of the motion.

Feeling  revitalized by Nikos' infusion, and still feeling time in a slowed  state, Jayden turns his mind toward his right shoulder and then arm  which bulge to twice their size, whipping his chain after the half  warforged turning away from him. Coiling around its neck from behind as  it pummels Jin's shadowy form, the chain requires only a flick of the  wrist backed by giant-sized bicep to yank the metal man off it's  balance, and off it's feet, to stagger and then fly backward low over  Jayden's head following the dog construct into the acid bath (10 damage, 15 Acid damage, Ongoing 15 Acid damage). Jayden's  arm quickly returns to normal, and Jayden chides, "Now, ye can't lose me that easy mate. This is just you an' me, got that?"

He wipes blood from his lip and grins widely, genuinely pleased having found a worthwhile foe whereupon to test himself. He  winks at Nikos in thanks and takes a ready stance, glancing over his  shoulder unconsciously trying to ascertain why the half-forged's  panicked face was eyeing the eastern doorway.

The thick black double doors to the east stand motionless and closed.

Jayden's Passive Insight Show
Felevar's eyes, though they dart about almost uncontrollably at times,  seem to flicker towards the eastern double doors more than any other  random point in the workshop

Hearing the continued ruckus, Carhian takes a deep breath and scurries  around the corner. However, his sloppy shot misses his mark and his even sloppier  attempt at staying hidden lets him know that maybe his reflexes aren't quite back up to snuff.

He grimaces in frustration. Cog ****, I should be doing better than this.

Taking Carhain's suggestion, Dioban rushes to the other side of the room.  Closing on Felevar, he says "What kind of abomination is this?" and does his best to stop him/it cold. The half-forged is undeterred by the corrosive dunking and reacts with a stiff parry to ward off Dioban's blow.

Action Adjustment Show
I'm going to assume Dioban spent his standard action to charge after moving 7 sq to attack from K9

Rogesh ducks and rolls between the combatants and uses the momentum make two quick kicks at the bathing half-forged. Both connect with solid metal which has little effect.

Action Adjustment Show
Paulos is correct - Nikos destroyed the remaining constructs at the beginning of this round, Rnd 3. I've re-directed your chosen attack at Felevar from K7

The acid begins to work on the half forged legs. The metal begins to pit and bubble (15 acid damage, bloodied) Felevar's blade lashes out in a arc, aimed at all adjacent but catches Rogesh and Dioban (25 damage to both) with nasty cuts.

Its offhand bash at Jayden is foiled by the courier's chain defense as is its follow up over handed sword chop. Felevar doesn't stop there continuing his barrage with a thrust along Jayden's gut (22 damage).

Finally, he attempts to grab Jayden and pull him into the acid bath but cannot find purchase on the courier.

In what's seeming to be a regular pattern, the rain of Fire Threads down from the ceiling for a third time. Focused on the combat all targets (Jayden x2, Nikos, and Dioban) except Rogesh are scorched (8 damage).

Cover my back." He hurls a ball of lightning at some of the remaining constructs and tries to get to a safe position while he looks at the tubing.

I don't know if this messes up Dioban or Jin, Dioban being after, and Jin before, but they could just attack from a different spot

Coiling around its neck from behind as it pummels Jin's shadowy form, the chain requires only a flick of the wrist backed by giant-sized bicep to yank the metal man off it's balance, and off it's feet, to stagger and then fly backward low over Jayden's head following the dog construct into the acid bath.

Well if Cast the Net hits, then Jayden changed things up quite a bit for those after him. Sorry for the confusion.

Dioban could use Run to get to K9 for an attack, or could charge, but I think it's a bit far otherwise, unless he has some special movement other than Move 6. And he's a son of Orien so that's not to far-fetched.

Rogesh - Looks like Nikos was able to take out the two constructs at the top of the round with his lightning sphere, but if R wants to redirect against Felevar he can circle to I7 to get flanking if Dioban's at K9. I kinda hope he's prone so everyone (especially Carhian) can have CA.

Jin could do his attack first before Jayden pulls that move, but I'd like to see if he can get through the door. Can I get a ruling on that? I know he can't go through walls but maybe the door?

Some Assumptions on my part Show
With the objective of Jin and Nikos appearing to be rescuing Garsaysa, I'm going to assume Jin is going to end being instabstantial and try and open the door to the window room.

Jin  estimates that it will take him, on his own, 6 careful rounds (take 10)  to unhook all the wires and tubes and another 4 rounds to remove the  tube aiding her breathing. He can cut that to 2 rounds for all the wires  and tubes with a sucessful Arcana, Heal (both moderate difficulty), or  Dex (hard difficulty) check. He can also reduce removing the breathing  tube to 1 round with a successful Heal check

Jin steps over to the closed door and examines it. Lacking an obvious handle he does however notice a manual override. He pulls on it and releases the door's lock.

Spot Check 1d20+10=15

"It's not that simple!" Nikos says hurriedly to Jin, "This isn't a glow-lamp you can just switch the dragonshard out of. Try that red tube first... no the red one! That's the bellows tube, it's breathing for her." Nikos tosses a hurried potion to Jayden then gets frustrated and moves the changeling aside. "Here, you try and spot a weakness in those traps, I'll handle this." After a moment's hesitation, Nikos severs first one tube with his blade and then another, hoping he's making the right moves.

Quite a number of tubes and wires are severed handily without ill-effect to Garsaysa. At this rate Nikos will have her all but free from the breating tube in no time (end of next round (5)).

Flashing white teeth from his stolid grin while ducking,  dodging, diverting, and deflecting the many powerful blows, Jayden seems  to be revelling deeply in this test of skill, scorning his  wounds. Jayden eyes the flame threads with a sneer before recentering  his focus and returning his full attention to harrying the  metal juggernaught before him to keep him off his companions, being wary  of landing in the sizzling acid himself.  "Stand back if you can, I can take his blows, but I can't keep him from flailing or yanking you in."

Remembering  Tsai and the Path of Light, something unspoken unnerves Jayden about  attacking a semi-unwilling enemy, so in the tussle he murmurs low to his  half-forged foe, "Tell me metal man before we end you, what's behind that door? Are you being controlled?"

The metal half man Felevar has become doesn't stop attacking but forces out words in a halting alien speech (especially to Nikos' ear), "Eliminate. All. Non. Authorised. Cannith. Protect. Core. Intelligence. Use. All. Available. Resources. At. Disposal. Intruders." The man's eyes seem to scream 'run!'

Carhian took a deep breath and let out a soft exhale. "Don't kill. Right." That kind of shot was always trickier. He let a crippling bolt fly at  the construct's hip, trying to miss any vital systems (27 damage). Finding much  better luck this time around, he allowed himself a brief smile while  reloading his next round.

Dioban beats at the construct man with the flats of his blades (16 damage) and says "He's under some kind of compulsion. Try not to kill him!"

Rogesh skips about the acid bath, whipping his Talenta Tangat in and out but his attacks are deflected (miss).

Dancing of Swords attack 1d20+14=21, 2d8+10=15

Felevar, though he still languishes in the acid (15 acid damage), lashes out with another whirlwind arc of his blade. It clangs off Jayden's chained arm, flies over Rogesh as he crouches low, and comes up against adamantine defences of Dioban.

With Jayden as its focus it hammers at him with stroke after stroke down upon the courier's defensive stance until it cracks through, knocking Jayden down to his knees again (prone, 15 damage)

The Fire Threads arc for a fifth time, scorching those left in the large workshop chamber (8 damage to Jayden, Rogesh, Carhian, and Dioban)

Jayden's tough and can manage w/o an infusion for now, he spent his second wind. Save it, or give it to yourself or someone else, Nikos. It looks like the strikers will have to take care of doing the damage. Jayden's whip is good for defenderly control but not really a damage dealer. Thanks for the intention to heal though, this metal man is certainly not gentle.

I'm still here and still interested, but last week and this week have been crazy studying for my MA. Just FYI, I've not lost interest in this. On the other hand, Jayden's mostly tying down Felevar more than thinking strategically about long-term plans, i.e. escaping (which way?), and Garsaysa etc. I suppose that's up to the rest of you, unless there's something specific he could contribute.

"What are we running from? Can't we just turn off these dammed fire blasts?" Finally fed up with the fire, Jayden rises from his knees and funnels some of his waning mental effort into his right arm while continuing to fend off the melting half-man with his chain-shielded left.  Flinging a stretch-armed hand at the tubing and wires on the ceiling, he tries yanking the fire-thread from the ceiling and back to his grasp.  His hope is to aim its lethally accurate flame jet either at Felevar (unless he goes unconscious before the threads' turn in which case Jayden wants to yank Felevar out of the acid bath before he's completely killed, using either hand, chain, or ceiling tubing) or aim it at the next flame thread in the center of the room above Carhian.  (If Jayden can't wield it like a reverse fire hose of flaming awesome he'll just dunk it into the acid at I8)

Nikos wipes sweat from his forhead as he continues to hastily pull off wiring and tubes. "Jin, see if you can get that breathing tube out," he says through clenched teeth. He glances over at the mechanism before concentrating on his own task again. "Just loosen up that leather strap, the rest should come away with it." Nikos tries not to think of Felevar in the other room. If he can get Garsaysa out of here he can figure out a way to come back for his half-brother. He will make amends, he promises silently to the Host that he will.

Here, here! I'm definitely holding out for this game. Jayden's still in it, and this is the best, most interesting PbP I've seen. So, now that the holiday crazy is passing, I'm hoping KK and ya'll others still have some Eberron left in you.

First of all, apologies for my unannounced absence since November

My real life has undergone a structural change that means I'll be unable to visit these boards for weeks at a time on a regular basis. This change is going to last for the foreseeable future, so I'm not going to be able to participate in games in a meaningful way anymore.

Which is a real bummer because I was having a ball running my Couriers of House Orien game and playing in Trolls Aberrant Prophecy game.

So I must apologise to all my players who invested so much of their time into their characters and the game and who brought me a lot of personal joy. Unfortunately, I won't be able to continue the Couriers of House Orien game even though there were still so many character and story hooks left to explore and resolve. Thanks heaps guys

Also, apologies to Trolls and team Khyber because I don't think I'll be able to do Zil justice if I only pop in for a few days here and there each month. I was looking forward to the big showdown to bring some closure to the game but it looks like I'll have to pass that baton onto the remaining players.

I guess all of this means that I won't be around on these boards for quite some time other than to pop in and say hello every now and again. Good gaming everyone and have fun!
