Kaggrath suggests that the group should pull on the rope to try to pull Jerenon back.  Vor'ar'isk tugs on it, but quickly realizes that he can't pull it back.  You can move the rope, but you can't get it to come back in your direction.  All Vor'ar'isk manages to do is get a little more of it to vanish as it loops back towards you and then apparently hits the portal to whereever Jerenon ended up.  It is clear that whatever sort of magic is in effect, it only allows things to pass in one direction, and you can't pull the rope or Jerenon back.  Jerenon notices the rope being moves slightly, but doesn't really feel any tug on it.  I assumed it was Vor'ar'isk who Bellamin got to hold the rope since it is Vor'ar'isk's rope.

Bellamin then says that he will go after Jerenon and will signal with the rope if he can't see the party and if he finds Jerenon.  He asks Vor'ar'isk to signal back if he can't see Bellamin.  Vor'ar'isk says, Since it seems I can't pull the rope back, I will shake it from side to side twice if I lose sight of you.

Before walking forward, Bellamin marks the passage with his chalk.  As Bellamin starts to walk forward, Jax says, Good luck.  I think we have no choice but to try following you and hope we all end up in the same place.

Bellamin walks forward.  After taking a few steps, he can no longer see the party, but can now see a different hall behind him.  Jerenon is standing in the hall, but gives no sign that he has seen Bellamin.  Bellamin signals that he can no longer see the party, but Vor'ar'isk does not signal back, indicating that he can still see Bellamin.  Bellamin then walks towards Jerenon.  As he passes back through the same plane where the hall changed before, the hall behind him changes again.  He is now standing next to Jerenon.  Bellamin signals that he has found Jerenon, and Vor'ar'isk signals that he can no longer see Bellamin.  Vor'ar'isk says to the rest of the party, It seems that he reached Jerenon.  I guess we should follow after them.

Bellamin is now standing right next to Jerenon, and you can see and hear each other.  I've not drawn Bellamin on the map because I'm assuming you want to stay in the same square as Jerenon and not walk forward or backward, which would risk stepping through another portal.  As long as combat doesn't start, you can be in the same square.

Let me know what you want to do next.

Jerenon is surprised when Bell finally walks out of seemingly thin air.

"Sorry about this - I realized we had a problem pretty quickly, but then made it worse by walking forward again.  I haven't heard anything in either location, so I think we are still alone, but I have no sense for where we are relative to the entrance any more."

I'm guesing we should move down the hall to the SE as more of the group comes forward.  It's this point just to our NW that seems like its the gate."

Jax says, I guess we should follow after Bellamin.  He then follows the rope down the hall, and then turns around and walks back, vanishing from site to the rest of the party and appearing next to Bellamin and Jax.

If Arliana or Kaggrath doesn't want to follow after Jerenon, Bellamin, and Jax, let me know.  Otherwise I'll assume the whole party follows.  I'm going to assume that the party moves southeast from where Jerenon is and that no one moves back to the northwest, since that is what Jerenon suggested.  If Arliana would want to search the hall before anyone moves forward, let me know.

"Hmm." Kaggrath calmly watches Bell and Jax pass through the teleporter and out of sight. "It looks like we have no choice. Dorklin, no one will blame you if you don't want to follow, but I can promise you it will at least be an interesting adventure, even if we never return." He turns back to Arliana and offers up an elbow as if they were about to embark on a stroll through the park. "Shall we?"

While waiting for the rest of the group to join him, Jerenon takes the time to retrieve a few copper pieces from his backpack.

"We can use these to throw forward and listen for the sound hitting the floor.  If there's no sound, then we can assume that we are facing a gate.  It's not the quietest plan, but I think it will work."

"The only other thing I can think of is if one of us has some sticks, or something similar, that we are willing to part with.  I sense that once an object goes through a gate, it cannot be drawn back - if we constantly prod forward in the air and periodically pull back, then we will know we are facing a gate if the stick seems stuck in mid-air.  We will be able to turn back, if we want, but the stick will, of course, have to remain stuck in the gate."

Kaggrath says that it looks like you have no choice but to go through the teleportation portals.  When he suggests might not want to follow, Dorkiln says, Of course I'm going with you.  I'm not about to wander through here on my own.

The rest of the party then follows the rope, appearing next to Jerenon.  Once everyone has arrived near Jerenon, Vor'ar'isk pullt the rope through the portals.  Meanwhile, Jerenon takes out some copper pieces suggesting that you could use them to see if there is a gate to somewhere else ahead of you.  I'm not quite sure if you intend to throw those in front of you before every step you take, or only in certain locations.  If you want Arliana (or whoever goes first) to test every space before entering it, let me know.

I'm going to assume that Arliana would search the floor in the direction that Jerenon suggested you head.

Arliana searches the floor in the hall leading toward where it turns to the northeast, but finds no traps (search checks = 14, 12, 18, 30).  Looking around the corner, she sees a long, empty hallway, which turns back to the northwest in three places.  Arliana continues to search along the hallway for a ways (search checks = 26, 14, 26).

I've just moved Arliana down the hall far enough that everyone fits on the new map in a separate square (with a little space between Arliana and Jerenon).  Let me know if Arliana should be throwing coins ahead of her as she moves.  Also, let me know if you want me to roll a search check for her for every square, or if perhaps she should just take 10 on the checks.  Taking 10 would allow her to find many sorts of mechanical traps, but not cleverly hidden ones, and not most magical traps.  If anyone wants to check out the other direction after seeing this hallway, let me know that too.  You could also just try throwing a coin that way to see if there if you would be teleported again if you were to try to walk that way.

"Does anybody have something better to tap ahead with?  It seems that sound is the best way to ferret out these gates.  We just want something that will make more of a natural noise when hitting stone - like a stick.  I'm afraid that metal hitting stone will alert anyone nearby.  We have to be able to lose the item as well - once something goes through a gate, it apparently can't be pulled back."

"Then again, maybe our armor is loud enough already that it doesn't matter."

If nobody has a better idea, Jerenon gives Arliana a few copper pieces to use as test items.  They can be tossed forward slightly and then picked up again as we catch up to them.  If we don't hear anything, then we know we have found a gate - and potentially lost the coin.

"Otherwise, I suggest that we go down to the next intersection - but maybe one or some of us should make periodic checks for secret doors and passages.  I have a feeling there might be a few in here, and this is a long hallway."

Bell thinks for a minute and than remembers something that could have helped them avoid this whole mess. He bows his head in slight shame, but when he raises it again it is with his custom smile.

Ye know I should have thought of this in thee first place, but I do have that spell. It can help us check an area of sixty feet ahead of us. It will last up to five minutes, but ye may wish to still look for traps as it will not detect those. I do believe these portals should be able to be seen with it.

Bell begins going over in his head the correct verbal and gestures needed to cast the spell. Just let me know if ye want to do it this way, detect magic might also be able to see thee portals as well as some magical traps. Unfortunite for me I was never bestowed the ability to detect magic, but only to read it.

"I would be up for using Bell's spell now - as long as Arliana thinks she can search for traps fast enough.  I just have a sense that a resident of a maze would have a good way to watch and sneak up on any intruders.  If we could find any of those methods quickly, we could potentially surprise the residents of the maze - or at least avoid getting surprised ourselves."

Jerenon suggests that Arliana take a few coins to throw in front of her to make sure that she doesn't walk through a portal, unless anyone has something better to use.  Bellamin then mentions his spell to detect secret doors, suggesting that he might want to use that.  However, Jax says, I don't think that spell will detect these portals.  From what I have heard about spells like yours, it detects concealed doors and hidden chambers.  However, these magical warps in space aren't really concealed in that sense.  We can see exactly where they will take us.  Its just that we don't know that where we are seeing isn't actually physically located where it appears to be.  I can cast a spell to detect magic if you want, and I think it would find the portals, but like Bellamin's spell it only lasts for five minutes.  I could cast that now if you want me to, but I think it will take more than 5 minutes for us to find our way through this maze.  I'm guessing that there will also be some non-magical hidden doors in this place, so we might want to use both spells.  The only question is whether we want to use them now or wait until later, perhaps when we come to a dead end or something like that.  Jax's spellcraft check = 30 (to know about Bellamin's spell and whether it would find the portals).

Let me know if you do want to use one or both of Detect Secret Doors and/or Detect Magic now.
