Getting everything set going into fridays would make it best for everyone and give me good starts at the beginning of the week.

Hi!  I'm Calcipher(or Matt).  Voy invited me to join you folks in this campaign.  I've posted stats for the Swordmage I drafted for this adventure on the other thread.  I look forward to playing with everyone.
Flag VoyRager October 2, 2012 3:29 PM PDT

@Everyone:
Say hello to our new player! Calcipher27!
Calcpher27 will be bringing in and playing a Eladrin Swordmage Bounty Hunter from the Lhars Isles as the new team defender.

As a couple of you already know, I will only bring in Constable Warranyt (Gnome Defender/Controller) or/and Constable Ed (Human Leader/Striker) using their full PC summary when the team is short-handed and need an extra body in the group to keep the encounter threats in the right difficult scale's range. All combat encounter this campaign is hard grade or worst by another angle. Warranyt and Ed are also NPCs that remained at the fort trending the fort cells while the players are moving about the region dealing with business.

@Calcipher27:
As soon as play your next turn; is as fast as I could update everything including putting up a new map.
Your initiative is 05 and your PC has concealment and hidden at Y34 but has no cover in the high grass while sneaking up on the battle.

Your next play or turn's in this round also could effects the warmaster last posted turn the turn intervene with the dragonborn committed actions because you are before the dragonborn in the initative order. The 1d20's rolls order made by all PC's and NPC's are irreplacable and unalterable.

QUICK SUMMARY OF THIS BATTLE:
One of the ambusher (Harry) was an escaped enemy from a previous battle in which the heroes collected on his brothers in then placed behind bars. Harry has join forces with this ambushing draconic slave trader led by a big muscular Dragonborn name Warmaster who is using his prized bloodsport breed of lizardfolks for this ambush. The Warmaster and Harry have openly challenge Flint and Warranyt at the start of the battle but there seems to more going on undisclosed or undiscovered with the halflings' (Harry) family relations and this Dragonborne Slavetrader yet this is known only to two of the palyers whom witness a clue but doesn't know what.

The Warmaster looks to be a Dark Six agent trying to collect on a foul mark (aka bounty price) that an Dreadmaster's Acolyte of the local Mockery branch's has called in on the Fort Pordown Constables. This means Flint (played by Welby10) and Warranyt PC (Filling in for absent Vault's alumi of Whatami and TheHumanhydra) are these ambushers' and the foul mark primary targets.

Our new player is roleplaying a Good to Unalign semi-popular Eladrin Bounty Hunter known along the coasts of the Thunder Seas; who is also a friend of the young gnome constable Warranyt.
====================================================================

Each of the players submitted background stories dictates how players role-playing interacts with each in the game but out here on the OOC and RL we're just gamers.

SO WELCOME  TO THE YOUNG MERCENAIRIES CANPAIGN, CALCIPHER27!
I HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH US.

SIGNED, V.

Welcome Calcipher! Glad to have a fellow defender again.

To the party: The Warmaster is taking a whopping -6 to attack rolls right now, and is bloodied. Taking him down may demoralize the rest of the redspawns and end the fight now. We are running a bit low on healing rescources (Hana has 1-2 more I think) so encounter powers would be good to use now. I plan on using my own next round to try to keep that -6 penalty on the Warmaster for another turn.

Quick Question - An item power says this:
Power Healing Surge (Minor Action)

While you are bloodied, use this armor to gain resist 10 to all damage until the end of your next turn.

Does this translates as "every time this power is activated the PC spends a healing surge?"

Actually it translates as, the first time you use it is free. After that you can spend a Standard action+a healing surge to recharge the item power. Then you can use it again, as a minor. And recharge it again, for another Standard+surge.

It is in the general magic item rules.

And if you don't spend a standard+surge, it'll recharge after an extended rest.

Undecided ??????????? Embarassed!??

Which part was unclear? It recharges at the end of every extended rest. Once you've used it the first time that day, you can spend a healing surge+a standard action to recharge the power. Then you can use the power again. You can keep recharging is, so long as you spend surges+actions to do so.

It is in the general magic item rules, because every item that says "Power - Healing Surge" works that way.

It's a daily power.

Except you can recharge it by spending a healing surge as a standard action. (which you presumably do durring a long rest).

No its not a daily power.

It's effectivly a daily power that you can recharge with healing surges.

Its not a daily powers any more than Initiate of the Faith's Healing Word is, because it doesn't have the daily keyword. It can be used once per day like a daily power and recharge with a healing surge.

Its not the same thing though. Game elements that let you regain a daily power would not let you regain a Healing Surge power for exemple.

Okay get it completely now.
Thank you for the attention you guys given this matter, V.

P.S.
I think you should also know that there's a reason unrelated to this thread on why I keep putting up this Embarassed upon perusing this proper translation of the item power!!

Its kinda my fault but there's will be a penalty like, like,...

Play left-handed for awhile (Y'kno what I mean)  that's with no more Defender Aura's including its opportunity actions benefits and no more Bloodcut's Resist 10 until the end of the next combat encounter and those two free actions recharges will cost a healing surge per which also will be unrecoverable until after the end of the next combat encounter!

Yeah, yeah,  I know but hey I can devise that one-hand tied behind the back conditions or any other trick phrase that comes up just because its like I was saying! "KINDA!!"

@Karsaroth
Can you officialized your last turn. Its an optional for Azer to joined Newt in dealing with Gar but what Games1 didn't mentioned in all of that was that the crossbow is loaded.

Yeah, all of this been partially worked out but its really up to you players if you going to leave Gar there at the Crossroad (Salmmy have a map.)
As long as I'm concerned since SalmonOfDoubt is reading all of this without telling me or you guys anything then I going to treat Gar as Salmmy left him, attacking everyone!!

@EVERYBODY ESPECIALLY SalmonOfDout concerning SalmonOfDoubt:
I have mention deranged in the private way to AllGame1 and madness on the IC thread concerning Gar's IC situation but I haven't address the SalmonOfDoubt situation until now.

I'm really going to enjoyed what I'm planning for Gar and since I'm so sure that Salmmy is reading our game from time to time, I am also sure Salmmy will return as soon as either time is found in that party's Real Life (=RL) situation to post like that party preferred to or that party decides to spend the five minutes when there's time to ask us to help keep his PC's beneficial-wise in this game with the idea that we don't look at how many times this assistance is requested.

Until this is resolved Newt/AllGame1 is correct there's something wrong with Gar/SalmonOfDoubt on the map.

Was the first attack an opportunity attack?

You asking this only mean you in pursuit so I must ask What square did find yourself on at the end of your last turn (which must been a charge attack) because your assumption of the locaton of the second melee(?) attack is only correct if you running alongside the lizardfolk?

If so would that make your second attack in which did hit with your regular turn?

Also If you are taking to pursuit, I will advise you against that by saying don't leave your teammates behind because its dangerous without them yet if you do leave the map boundary then its E, D, C, B, A, AA, BB, CC, EE, type of sequence going above the map boundary.

(These lizardfolks don't have a bounty on them in Darguun or Zilargo anyway but if you capture them there a temple in near Karhashan in Q'Barra run by Dragonborns priest who would like to take them in and make it worth your time for delivery them alive and healthy.)

I moved, 6 squares then charged for an attack, then spent an action point to make the second attack.  I have no intention of following off the map.  I was just curious if I got one more shot before he left the map.  According to the last map posted I started in Q39 and moved to K34 then I charged to E28.  In the same round I spent an action point and used the standard to use Frigid Blade(second attack) to slow his movement.

OK, Since this battle was moved up from it normally schedule time to aquainted and test you new players in PbP format and introduce you to hard grade PbP scales it's alright at this time to stop and look at what you suggesting to do.

Your first attack miss (Since the lizardfolk was shifting from Warmasters Superior Tactics Power) shouldn't been a OA but since it missed I didn't bothered to posted note of it.

During the lizardfolk next turn the little guy did a double-move and a shifty power (minor action) to arrived at D28.

Your PC pursued him with a move and a charge attack(?) which would hit yet you mentioning the attack slowed the Lizardfolk so this matter just became interesting.

As a charge attack; with the exception of free and no actions there couldn't be anymore action for that turn so unless your second attack was a power that can be used in place of a charge attack or a ranged attack, the second attack roll presented must been the action point making it a double-move to E28 instead of the E29 I thought you went to.

Now the Lizardfolk is slowed(?) and after a minor action of Shifty power and a double-move of 4 squares total the Lizardfolk is barely off the map but...

If you want this pursuit a battle between your PC and the little guy who isn't even bloodied then it would be fair if I warned you that I must let the little guy defend himself which would bring a Short Sword attack with the lizardfolk quickness advantage intacted. This can leave your PC badly hurt, poisoned and proned while the lizardfolk with Warmaster's Superior Tactics in his mind exits the map during the Warmaster's place in the initiative order. (Proned creatures can't make OA so you looking a proud wagging tail moving away from you in the slowed condition)

Well, are you that much of a demented battle-hungry sick puppy to demand this showdown with the Warmaster's Bloodsport trained contender, Newbie?

Flag Calcipher27 October 23, 2012 1:42 PM PDT
Nope, at this point with him moving off screen at that pace I'd let him go and return to the group binding the Warmaster, the priority target.  I was really just checking to see if I needed to make one more attack against him before he got "off screen."  Technically Frigid Blade doesn't slow it reduces movement by my Con modifier if he starts adjacent to me.

I'm claiming one of the short sword and the thieves tools with the mirror with the pebble as a Symbol Of Scorned Fate. Also if its 280gps loot and 1600gps bounty divided by 5 (since Muziki gets more for some reason I don't understand!) then its really 376gps each making my total gps balance for this game 221gps.

This is how I've found this total:
205 (My previous balance) + 376 (Loot) = 581 - 360 (for the peddle enchantment) = 221gps leftover.

Is buying a mount a requirement?
If it isn't and someone esle does then I will buy a horse for 100gps but if it isn't a requirement and no one esle buy a mount then I won't either.

How did Crow get 1000gps for a dire wolf? If there's going to be a team's loan for the wolf then I must demand we charge Crow interest with it!

No, and your Readied Action will let you act during the surprise round
You should roll the Frigid Blade atack as a precursor in your posting for your turn.

Deducting the Resist 1 and marking that on the tracker.

Not much I can do about a caster rolling twice to hit for up to a third of my health at range every turn, who weakens you when you get close, on top of the six highly accurate melee enemies we're taking on that I need to try to distract from the party. Voyrager is known for challenging encounters, which can be enjoyable, but I think we've just been in a string of bad luck which has compounded the situation. It doesn't look good.

VOY!
Entanglement should be a two-way grab or no grab and the warrior shouldn't be able to move more than two squares from the target while his flail/whip has a grabbed condition. (Its in the book Welby10)

CROW! PULL!

Strenght Attack vs Fortitude 17.

If a hit on the mount dismounts then maybe a pull should proned the rider on the ground too even if for no damage.
A hit on this attack it provokes an OA from Flint
Hit or miss, will you please use a minor action to untangled and move action to shift away from the chief.

Newt will use duelist with the touchy clawfoot after you done this and then move toward Hana and once in ranged will use Step Together Power to teleport Hana and herself over to help Mizuki next round, so delay your turn next round.

Flag TheOneWhoCallCrow January 23, 2013 4:02 PM PST
I got a 19, but not sure if Fort check is correct for Str vs Str or Dex? It's 4e so I don't know.

Am I still entangle after I pulled the goblin off?
Flag VoyRager January 23, 2013 7:49 PM PST
@Games, Crow and Everybody!
I see it. Ok its good, but only immediate after a Minor Action is used to end the Immobilized and Can't Attack Conditions then the pull condition can be attempted as the Standard Action as explained in this spoiler box.

Move a Grabbed Target (From the rules' pages) Show

 Action: Standard action.
 Strength Check: The creature makes a Strength check opposed by the Fortitude of a target it is grabbing. The check automatically succeeds if the target is a helpless ally of the creature.
 Success: The creature can move up to half its speed and pull the target with it. The creature’s movement doesn’t provoke an opportunity attack from the grabbed target, but the movement otherwise provokes opportunity attacks as normal.

Also if the warrior let go of the weapon as a Free Action and an Opportunity Action when the standard action to pull the holder of the weapon as a grabbed target is attempted then the attempt is Auto-Miss.

I will allowed the pull versus mounted creatures for only one square, dismounting proned and no damage.

Remember this will be two-way.

One more point:
Holding the flail stringy end while in an adjacent square of the creature holding the other end of the long flail will leave you vulnerable to a basic garrote attack and that grabbed condition isn't a question of a simple entanglement!

@Crow
Hana just pulled a Dharkaani Warrior off a clawfoot with a Strenght Attack with a modifier of +0. (OMG, Z!!)
How many squares are pulling the warrior. Are you going to release the stringy side of the flail weapon when you done.

Also: Since you can't target yourself with the Shield of Devotion Power,do you want to saved it for later use or use it to target Mizuki?

@Welbs:
You're Have An OA!!
Flag TheOneWhoCallCrow January 24, 2013 10:05 AM PST
I guess I'll save the shield of devotion for later and use the healing word to heal myself.
Flag AllGame1 January 25, 2013 6:47 AM PST
Crow? Hana have a move action and Mizuki is bloodied as well as alone over there. Why don't you have Hana heal Mizuki and then move into cover or hide. Hana can heal up next round and come back out fighting. Our PCs will keep the enemies busy while Hana is doing all this.
Newt is out of range to help Mizuki before the next time he is attack so its up to Hana.
Flag VoyRager January 28, 2013 5:49 AM PST
@CROW:
Mizuki needs a healing surge and that shield of devotion is in range to do that. If Miziki takes another hard hit this round then it will be over because one of those warriors must be bloodied for their vulnerabliity to kick in.
No pacifist in his/her right mind will stand there and let others get kill when they can do something and Hana looks like she doing that!. Help Mizuki, help the others like an honorable passionate fighter, sir.

Oops misread targets entirely with the Inevitable Shot targets and this does mean Azer's action point is gone.

Does the goblin need to make a Dex or Str check to snap that weapon on me?
I am holding his weapon, so basically I have as much control of that weapon as him.

So should the saving throw be the other way around?

I am just using the grabbing rules here.

The goblin needs to make a Dex or Str check to over power me and use the weapon on me
or
The goblin neds to make a Dex or Str check to free the weapon from me.

needs a strenght attack aka a bull rush to get you to let it go. The half damage is going to keep on coming as a minor action until that bull rush is successful.

And will be no asking of you to let go of the weapon either and since the strenght attack is a standard action and neccessary to wrestle it away from your PC, there shouldn't be any immediate serious threats from the creature on the otherside of it but your PC is vulnerable from attacks from the other creatures near by.

I also really should penalized your PC's defenses against those attackers but I decided for the fun of it against doing this for I'm curious on if your PC removing one attacker out of the main scheme in exchange for the half-damges per round is going to be worth it and what you going to try next.

btw... Yur Up!

Hello, You Good People Of The WotC.
In the beginning here at The Players' Vault I was appling some wild ideas I came up while sipping my after-work evening coffee at the local Starbucks thinking they all was playable in the DnD universe but soon after putting them in play here at The Vault I soon found myself reverting the ideals back to a more regulated DnD base and what followed became such an imtoxicating type of commitment that I had to forced myself to break away from it in order for me to find focus with my hobby's true meaningful purpose not value in real life. My real life. In other words I need a vacation from the Players' Vault's activities in order for I to find focus with other commitments I made in life.

Since this forum (as well as the DnD PbP Tutorial Forum at the Real Adventures' Forum) faced such doubts and resistance because of its near-homebrew settings and structuring all of this made this unforseen, unscheduled and unannounced vacation decision easier to make and do. Especially with over 90% of the complaints and conflicts I was enduring on a day to day basis here at the WotC started in The Players' Vault by past players and have spilled over into other play by post forums that was effecting other past players of my forums and the present players' in my forums alike as well as my other activities in the other forums; I found myself thinking that its may have been in everyone best interests especially those involved here at the Players' Vaullt with their future DnD gaming to close my forums altogether yet I finding out that I was mistaken on these particular grounds.

The three storylines at the The Players' Vault and the designed tutorial PbP Adventure game at Real Adventures' forum all have an unique DnD game structuring and this style of presentation have grown beyond my "At the Starbucks' table scribbling in a notebook" into its own type of DnD adventuring aa well as grew bigger than my authority to simply end it.

So I'm apologizing to all of you for believing I have that much control over your activities here at the WotC and I'm apoologizing to those who been entertained by simply watching everything unfolds in my forums and lastly I do apologizes to those who been awaitng for the release of the complete pdf file of the "The Players' Vault's" storylines module.

The entire campaign? Wow, I wonder what happens.

I was hoping something new or at least a conculsion of what happen to our graveyard battle.

Flag VoyRager May 23, 2013 9:32 PM PDT
The problem with this campaign is there's been too many players exchanges happening on this single storyline. If all the players was here from the start, we would have breezed thru these concluding encounters with a good conception on what and why must be done.

Even before I hit the wall working with this forum; with the exception of Welby10 who been here the longest but wasn't here at the start, all the rest players was relying on me to cued them in on what they should know and doing because of the lack of experencing the beginning plot building phases.

I'm offering a start over so the game can be played by the present playuers in a more organized flow.
