Spotting the four gathered around the one called Jeeves, Algaris immediately suppresses a sigh of relief.
That was quicker than I could have hoped. I am glad they didn't make a beeline to some shadowy corner or out-of-the-way place.
" 'Speaking to Clarisse and his Highness', you say? Now that sounds like quite a story. Surely the King knew four such as yourselves would mean him no harm, right?"

Lady and gentlemen.... I present to you the Edition War without Contrition, the War of the Web, the Mighty Match-up!
We're using standard edition war rules. No posts of substance. Do not read the other person's posts with comprehension. Make frequent comparison to video games, MMOs, and CCGs. Use the words "fallacy" and "straw man", incorrectly and often. Passive aggressiveness gets you extra points and asking misleading and inflammatory questions is mandatory. If you're getting tired, just declare victory and leave the thread. Wait for the buzzer... and....
One, two, three, four, I declare Edition War Five, six, seven eight, I use the web to
Go!
D&D should not return to the days of blindfolding the DM and players. No tips on encounter power? No mention of expected party roles? No true meaning of level due to different level charts or tiered classes? Please, let's not sacrifice clear, helpful rules guidelines in favour of catering to the delicate sensibilities of the few who have problems with the ascetics of anything other than what they are familiar with.
Just a quick note on the MMORPG as an insult comparison...
MMORPGs, raking in money by the dumptruck full. Many options, tons of fans across many audiences, massive resources allocated to development.
TTRPGs, dying product. Squeaking out an existence that relys on low cost. Fans fit primarily into a few small demographics. R&D budgets small, often rushed to market and patched after deployment.
You're not really making much of an argument when you compare something to a MMORPG and assume people think that means bad. Lets face it, they make the money, have the audience and the budget. We here on this board are fans of TTRPGs but lets not try to pretend none of us play MMORPGs.
Adding options at the system level is good. Adding options at the table level is hard.
Removing options at the system level is bad. Removing options at the table level is easy.
This is not complicated.
Something like Tactical Shift is more magical than martial healing.
Telling someone to move over a few feet is magical now? :|
I weep for this generation.
Given the laziness and morbid obsesity amongst D&Ders, being able to convince someone to get on their feet, do some heavy exercise, and use their words to make them be healthier must seem magical.

While you're talking, a gong chimes.
That will be the last call for the gate, says Jeeves. If you're going anywhere tonight, you better move, or else you'll be repelling down the walls with some eager young archer letting fly at your heads.

"So, decision time gentlemen: do we go out to the gypsie camp this evening or wait until dawn? My preference is now. I don't believe gypsies are responsible for this but I suspect that those who are have been using the gypsie camp as a place to hide. Were I them I would have fled by morning light."
Reynard looks around at the others to see what they feel the group should do.

Nicolaus turns to Algaris in irritation. The king indeed trusted us; he just wanted to be sure we'd be willing to seek out the assassin.
I don't see any reason to not hurry to the camp if we aren't just doing it because we're sure it's the gypsies. Are we going to leave, then?

Warinor takes the dagger and looks over it carefully for any signs of magic. "If the assassins are hiding at the camp, they will be gone by morning. It would be logical to set off now," He says to his companions, then looks at the dagger again. Mechanics: Spoiler:

Warinor
Show
You detect no magic imbued in the dagger. There is a small craftsman's mark barely visible on the bottom of the handle, one which would likely allow it to be traced to its maker. After Warinor examines the dagger, the guard takes it back, restating his task to begin finding the dagger's owner in the morning. All of you barely have enough time to gather up your gear before the iron gate clangs shut behind you, and you find yourselves cast out into the chilly night. The gypsy camp lies a couple of miles outside of the town, due to standard regulations and such, so it's a little bit of a hike through the dark woods. Mechanics
Show
I need a track check I guess from whomever wants to take the lead (there really should be a navigation skill) to make sure you don't get turned around in the dark or miss the path to the camp. Also, marching order and any other arrangments or checks you want made.

Javier wraps his cloak tightly around him and ensures he has easy access to his sword and daggers before he nods to the others, "I only know the rough direction in which the camp lies. If someone has a better idea then I happy to follow their lead."
This is the first Javier has since since he briefly acknowledged Alagris's coming to join the trek. His mind has been toying about how to turn this situation into a positive one. The initial suspicion was certainly not falling in the direction that he would like and he tried to imagine who would gain from conflict with the Vysh.

The others offer not a word of complaint when Algaris offers to accompany them. In the back of his mind, the mage wonders if perhaps they are only keeping quiet so as to keep an eye on him, or perhaps they internally considered a refusal, but whatever the case, the wizard of Vyshan finds himself trekking alongside Javier and the others, wishing there was a bit more cold in the air so as to chill his bones.
"I'm afraid I have only a foggy idea of where we are heading. When we first arrived here, we didn't really get anywhere near the camp. The outriders said a bunch of armed Vysh wouldn't be a beautiful sight to anyone, let alone folk who aren't especially known for their battlefield prowess."

With Nicolaus in the lead, you stumble about in the dark in the general direction of the gypsy camp. It's a more difficult task than you had expected with the lanes between trees making many false paths. You seem to have lost the road altogether when not too far in the distance a small solitary light appears as if a small campfire had just been lit.
From your location, you can't tell who might be around the fire, but you're pretty sure that it's not the gypsies' camp, though it's possible it could be a watchfire.
