"A Goblin! They have a pet Goblin. That is so cute." "I've tried that a few times. Never worked out. It would either soil my cave or get killed by wild goblins." "You never broke your Goblins?" "Break it? I never understood that. If your pet is broken, you put it out of its misery and get a new one. Feed it the old one--no need for waste." "That's canabalism." Pipes in the far Gold dragon. "They never seemed to mind. In fact, they were so greatful that they broke down into tears. Still, it never worked. In the end I ended up getting kobolds. Less exotic than goblins, but they know how to grovel." "My grand sire used to have an entire horde of goblins outside his cave. But that was a different age." "Your grand sire never let the truth get in the way of a good bragging session." "True, but then look at the tales your grand damme liked to tell."
The gold dragon merrily scythes the head from a nearby partially cooked sheep and lifts the head with it's tongue. A loud sucking sound follows. The dragon spits out the skull, then casually tosses the rest of the carcass into it's mouth. "My colleagues will go on like that for a while. The short version is yes, our teeth are quite sharp, and would make excellent weapons. In fact, Hfrothalis there has a grand damme that tells about a pesky self-important paladin that was making a problem of himself, but that his enchanted plate armor was no hindrance to... But I'm getting side tracked again. See what I mean? Anyway, to business. We are the ambassadors from the Draconic empires. We just finished our thirty year stint at the Eladrin Capitol to the south, and are on our way home. We started on our way home last night, when we spotted this wonderful flock. By that point, we were famished from travel, so we agreed to stop for a snack."The gold dragon casually reaches for another sheep and you hear a brief bleet as it sails through the air into the waiting mouth. "Delicious. You really must try one of these. Anyway when we landed, the shepherds in the fields all ran screaming for some reason." The foremost red dragon belches loudly. "Yes. We really should thank them for breeding such excellent creatures. Fine specimens. A credit to their breed." The other dragons nod in agreement. "Indeed. Anyway. We may be ambassadors, but we are not thieves or mindless marauders like so many of those silly Elven tales. We are willing to compensate for farmers for their flock, but short of chasing them down and giving them paroxisms of fear, or other unfortunate injuries, we need to find a way to let them know. We debated leaving a note on their door, but there are seven or eight buildings back there, and we aren't sure which is the correct one. It wouldn't do to give the wrong family compensation for something they didn't lose, and have those in true need have to go without." "Tracking them down might be a problem. Maybe just leave it with their lord-master in that city over there, and let him deal with the petty matters. Oh, that one was delicious. As compensation, I could cook one of these sheep for you. They are delicious, and what's one more? Hah. Even more delicious, that's what. So sweet and tender." "Well, he's not wrong." "You aren't boring him with that story about your grand damme and the paladin, are you? Hah. Next you'll be telling them that the story about the Eladrin owning the world is a lie." "Well, it is." "Were you there? No."

Gurdain's eyes go wide for a brief moment, then they narrow. He puts a hand on his chest and rubs his armor, wondering if the scales would be easily recognizable as having come from a dragon. And then, how would the dragons react if they did? One dragon had been bad enough, but 4? He may be resistant to fire, but he didn't want to test just how resistant he was against four of the beasts. Better to get out of here as quick as they could. Hrmph, Drag'ns 're impr'ss've be'ngs. It m'y b' 'n hon'r t' work f'r th'm, but hon'r do'sn't ex'ctly f'll a man's pock'ts. Th' Coldf're Knights shouldn't b' scamp'rin' abo't th' for'st tend'n' t' drag'n affairs, we've bett'r coin t' earn. C'me al'ng "pet."
Rorin looks up at the dragons in awe. First time he's ever seen one, at least this close. He might've seen an outline of one in the night sky once, but that's pretty sketchy. "Gurdain, we should help them. They're ambassadors right? What do you think will happen to their mission when a bunch of shepards run around shouting 'The Dragons are killing my sheep! I need help! Call the army!' I don't know about you, but avoiding all out war with dragons would be kinda big for you, even if it doesn't get you noticed very much."
He turns to look at the dragons, grimacing at the sound of crunching sheep. He's more used to tender sheep really... "Do you know which way they went?"
Bast sits upon his mount in both shock and confusion. Not because he hasn't seen dragons before, cause he has, but because he hasn't ever seen a scene quite like this one. He isn't sure what is more shocking, the table manners or the fact there are 4 dragons all holding quite the conversation there. Looking over at Gem with a most confused look on his face, "I'll let you handle this one. You are the leader here."

"'F'll a man's pock'ts...' Fill a man's... Oh. He seeks compensation for his efforts." "I offered to cook him a sheep. One that our embassy will be paying for. He want's more?" "It is the local custom." one of the Gold dragons reminds the red. "We've been here for 30 years. Surely you have learned that. I believe gold coins are customary." "Using perfectly good gold as mere currency. How... vulgar. Well, he's not getting any of mine. The embassy can cover that too." "Indeed. The embassies have had three decades of our time. Time we could have spent amassing our fortunes." "How do you know he won't put the gold to good use? Like building a nest for his... His? Seems likely... Anyway. Maybe he is building a nest for his mate?" "When have you ever known a Dwarf to be so sensible."
The foremost dragon chuckles. "I concede the point. Master Dwarf of the--'coldfire knights' was it? I assure you that the embassy will provide for your service."The gold dragon's hand sweeps up three sheep, which it then throws into the air. A gout of fire blasts the sheep as gravity brings them down to the dragon's enormous maw. "Are you sure you wouldn't like one of these?" The gold dragon in the back regards Rorin favorably. "Which way? Well, they more or less scattered. We were focused on more pressing needs. It is a long way to the Empires. It will take us at least a week to reach there" "Only because you two are such slow fliers."

"Pet?" Droth looks around confused looking about the group for some sort of pet at the sound of Gurdains comment. "Not kitty, right?" being distracted for a moment from the conversation with the dragons.
"Burnt sheep good, Droth full now. Eated rats. Later sheep." Droth closes in slowly at some of the nearer sheep that seem to be cooking nicely. "Find puny humans, get shinies? Droth like." Turning back to the group he says "Droth work for dragon masters. Honorful servant Droth are. Stories of dragon masters old from tribe. Droth do. Help?"
Gem, agog as she takes in the scene of wooly carnage, decides Droth has the right of it here. She dismounts and steps forward, speaking carefully but deliberately "Ahem, ambassadors? My name is Gem Steeler, Sergeant at arms. The Coldfire Knights will be happy to serve as your intermediaries to deliver compensation to the affected shepherds. It seems they were not informed of your mission, a terrible oversight." Gem waits to see how the dragons are taking this before saying anything else, hoping they feel generous.

"Yes, we probably should have booked a reservation ahead of time. I will have to suggest that amendment to procedures when I get back. Still, this flock should tide us over until well into the unsettled lands." "Oh, there. I remember I was famished when we came across those Gorrans." "Yes, but how tasty they were." "I don't think we can count on being that lucky again." "It is a different season. I do not believe we will have that much trouble." "Indeed. Well, if you take this chit to either the shepherds, the lord owner of this farm or the draconic embassy with the location of this flock, you will be awarded the commission, and the herders will be compensated." The gold dragon pulls a token of some kind from its neck and places in on a fence post. The token is made of heavy bronze, and bears draconic characters. "Yes, this is much better than having the animals brought to the embassy slaughter fields. The meat is more tender, and the fear most delectable."
The foremost dragon shrugs. "I don't know that the additional flavor is due to fear or just that these are tender young beasts in their prime rather than elderly decrepid creatures one step from the abitoir."The sheep are shuffling away from the dragons as best they can. There is a glint in one of the red dragons. Is it malevolence, or humor? Perhaps both? The gold dragon nods at Gem and then winks at Gurdain. "That armor is most beautiful workmanship, but I would not recomend wearing it around our replacements." The red dragon in the back chuckles. It and the gold continue their bickering about travel arrangements. MapShow
