The pit is not filled in.
There's probably a good bit of debris from where the ceiling caved in, but the pit has definite walls, floor, stuff like that. About 10, 15 feet down, too, so it would require a little more than a hop.

Shakmaty, you can take 10 when you are attmepting a check and are not under duress or stress to get done in a hurry. That means you automatically roll a 10 on the d20, which is sufficient in and of itself to climb down a rope (which is DC 10).
Most of the time, when it's not important to the story, the DM will assume that the party passes their skill checks anyway.

what? the bard is better at history and arcana than the fighter? When did this start? well, that's those three skills at well above 20. With lvl1 characters, if there is something to find, we should have found it. Of course, if there is nothing to find, not only did we waste a bunch of good rolls, but we're on the wrong path. EDTA, if they haven't found anything down there, and the hole doesn't lead to anything else, can you let us know so we can move on to something else? Hopefully something with a little more obvious clues about what we are supposed to be doing?

When Per'dra says "dagnabbit" two dwaves show up and say that you called them. One of them is named "Dag" and the othe "Nabbit". They portray themswelves to be twins, but you can easily see that one is a hill dwarf and the other a mountain dwarf.
The dwarves are NPCs I made way back in the 2ed days. Their whole thing is supposed to be comic relief. They also have a special tonic they call "Goblin Squeezins". This tonic is even more random than a Deck of Many Things. It can raise the dead (assuming that the spirit of the dead creature wants to come back when something made out of goblins is poured down the body's throat). It can kill the living. It can polymorph. It can grow hair on a female's chest. It can do anything limited only by the imagination of the DM as long as it doesn't give any mechanical effects. Most effects last an hour or two at the most.
Goblin Squeezins is made by boiling an adult goblin in a pot of water much like a lobster. If the goblin is still alive when this is done, it makes a more potent tonic. Add some various herbs (alchemical in nature) and other secret ingrediants and the tonic is finished.
The dwarves are not evil. They are good with unaligned tendencies. They realling think they are doing the world a favor by making this tonic.
You have the free will to agree or disagree. You have the ability to act freely on the above choice regardless of the consequences. Keep on the Shadowfell PbP Group 1

Reminds me of a player who was bugging me because he wanted a magic katana for his samurai. His supposedly lawful samurai. So, when the ice princess pirate queen showed up (and trounced the party, because that's what she does), she stole most of their treasure, took the better ship, but left them with most of their equipment (so they could go, build up more money, and be robbed again). The samurai found a rune etched into his sword. His sword was now chaotic, and had a modified Wand of Wonder table. Whenever he crit, a random effect would go off. Sadly, this worked against me when he crit one of the two ancient white dragons, and the sword sent forth a shower of 2d4*10 gems, each of which did 1d4 damage. Naturally, he maxed out and sent 80d4 damage into the dragon, on top of the ludicrous damage of the crit, and killed it at the top of round 2. The dragon's skin rippled like the hull of a zentradi ship after a daedalus attack. (Macross/robotech reference) Then it exploded. They never did bother to loot the body for the gems.
But yes, the Lawful Samurai, played by an utter munchkin, with a chaotic sword.

Whisper, I think you read the IC post wrong. Unless I am, but it sounds to me like the runes were simply hiding the stone here, but apparently something got to it before we did. Apparently something big by the way the bookshelves were moved and the floor was simply crushed...

Or I just reached different conclusions. Remember, Eelen is not the brightest. The ritual might still help us find where the stone is now, so we can hunt it (and whatever took it) down.

Fair enough. I look forward to seeing the lot of you clamber back out of the hole to give Nassios the good news.
