I spend a lot of time trying to make my skill challenges dynamic to avoid "I will just pick my best skill and roll it every round" situation and replace that with team work, just like in combat. I encourage everyone to look at the secondary skills (easier DC), take into consideration aiding (which works on a 12+ but limited in the sense that you have to roll the same skill you are aiding)... And also certain people's special attributes: Iandak can reroll Athletics and Azimuth can let someone reroll a failed Diplomacy, Bluff, Streetwise or Intimidate. Please keep in mind that while skill challenges may not always feel all that life-and-deathy as combats let me remind you that: 1- had you strategized better in the previous challenge (or read the post pertaining to troops numbers more attentively), you could have had up to 100 troops (though you did very well questioning Hanfros ahead of the meeting then using the information as leverage) 2- here, should you fail, you will be surrounded by a seriously pissed-off mob. Pissed-off mobs like lynching people. Also Arcane spells provoke another level of lynching intensity, so you may not be able to use all your powers freely shold the mob feel like lynching. If you don't work together / figure out a bit of math together, you will be in trouble. I believe there are a few optimizers amoung you. I would recommend that one such optimizer takes the lead in OOC and suggest the best course of action (though there are things you don't know). Ask in OOC if you have doubts / questions.

This seems like a good time for in-character coordination, so I could have Zaffa throw down a gameplan in IC. My idea is that Azimuth rolls Streetwise straight, Iandak goes for Athletics with Zaffa's aid and Nakir is on standby for an Insight Perception check if the Athletics check goes under (otherwise an Insight check to boost another Diplomacy attempt next round). How does that sound to you all?

I would have expected opening with Azimuth - Streetwise (13v16=85%) Iandak - Athletics (12v20 with reroll=84%) Luusi - History Secondary (14v14=95%) or Aid Diplomacy (8v12=80%) Nakir - Perception Secondary (11v12=95%) Zaffa - Aid Intimidate (9v12=85%) or Aid Athletics (6v12=75%)
EDIT: Mighty came up with it even better worded than me.

Yeah I was planning on going with a streetwise check. I would've done it already but I'm entertaining guests right now, but I'll have it up tomorrow.

I am NEVER going first in a skill challenge again. So one of you fellas will have to get the ball rolling in the future. Whoever is in charge, let me know what to roll and when to roll it. I'll figure out the fluff from there.

@Jewels: Don't sweat it. Scyner's skill challenges take a little planning to get through, but I don't remember a time when we 100% bombed out -- nope, that's all roleplaying's fault. It's usually a matter of the degree of success, like with Vildeen. Though to be honest, I wasn't clear on how much of his resources he could feasibly contribute, so I was actually more worried about pushing too much than getting as much as possible out of him. I don't know how the rest of you feel about it, but both metagame and in-character, I felt like walking away with a 60-soldiers-for-nothing deal was pretty good.

I agree. I was surprised we got that many, to be honest. Especially after he and Nakir had their pissing contest.

I like Mighty's plan. I can roll my athletics now or wait for Azumith, either one.

@Group: don't second guess yourselves on Vildeen's skill challenge, you did well overall. While it was possible to get more troops, it was harder to get them "for free". And you did it. So congrats.
Re: this challenge: So, according to Mighty's plan we should have Az and Zaffa go first (In any order). If zaffa is going to aid athletics, she would have to go ahead of Iandak (unless you have a change of heart). Az can definitely go anytime.
Lastly, you guys don't want to burn Az "slick negotiator" on Luusi's fail? (actually odds are not great, maybe better to save it for an easier roll that failed).

I just updated the IC post to include the map.
There is more crowd than that (no space really available) and the crowd I put on the map is potential trouble makers... Imagine a Merchants' square much more packed than that.
Let me know if you have questions.
