Nature's Allies Chapter 1 - From Autumn Beauty to Gloomy Spring
With the Autumn Feycourt making their decision, the band of a half-Eladrin, an Eladrin, two Pixies, and one Hamadryad head out from the court with blessings from the Faerie Queen and Thindreve, Carwyn's mother and advocate of the expedition.  The return path to Thistlebark is taken up by his dinosaur companion.  His sense of direction is unerring targeted towards the apex of the autumn mountain vale.

Following the dinosaur, you pass through the heart of the autumn forest and into the edges upon the lowest slopes of the slumbering mountain. The scaled animal leads you to a thick, golden hued thicket. It regards you, gives a couple of chirps, and then dives head long into the vegetation.  You follow and become encased by the rich, vibrant leaves.  Navigating through the thicket, the dinosaur leads you across the boundries between the Feywild and the mortal realms.

The thicket gradiates from the lush feywild to an almost sickly, water starved, brown vegetation. Emerging on the far side, you step into a world emerging from the slumbers of winter. Pausing to take in your surrounds, you sense the sleepy life of the forest slowly awakening around you.  Spots of vibrant greens can be spotted where nature has already awoken and the sounds of birds and wolves can be heard upon the wind.

The dino leads you down the far side of a mountain slope blanketed in a forest showing the briefest signs of spring.
With a couple of quick chirps of encouragement, it leads you across the wooded terrain. Glimps of morning sunlight pepper the forest floor as you quickly descend a few miles away from the thicket.

You arrive in a small clearing that you sense is not far from the edge of the forest. The party halts at the edge while the  light brown biped dinosaur scampers across the sickly grass.  Your hesitance is caused by the four foot tall, bearlike, owl faced creature it runs up to.  They seem to know each other for they exchange a few quick chirps and tweets.  Then  they nuzzle, snout to beak.

Dino: We here!
Owlbear: Hi!
Dino: Hi!
Owlbear: Hi Hi!
Dino: Hi!   Hungry
Owlbear: Ya, hungry too
(Mortal animals are not as articulated as fey creatures.. that explains the Dino.  The owlbear, well... that's another story)

"Leo, where did you go?  Oh you found Nettle!"

A small creature in a sparkly, dark blur races over to the dinosaur and pats the top of his head.  She's a small pixie at only 8" high.  Her wings are fluttering in excitement.

"I see you brought company."

Nettle turns his head and runs back to the group.  The pixie follows quickly behind and the bear like creature trudges after.

"Hello there, my name is Mooraha.  You must be the group i've been waiting here for.  I'm so glad you're all finally here!"

She flys over to Nettleroot.  "You must be Nettleroot, it's a pleasure to finally meet you!"

"I would invite you all into the house, but I'm afraid it might be a bit small for some of you."

Balanos seems to be paying little attention to the interactions of the creatures, instead looking from tree to tree, approaching some and touching them gently. She listens distractedly to Mooraha, but seems to expect the others to do the talking, at least for the moment. She yawns and mutters to herself "It feels too cold to be awake."

Carwyn

If not for an initial expression of disdain on his face, Carwyn seems nearly oblivious to the fact they're now walking a different world. The low attention he was putting into a visual exploration of the site is easily won by the arrival of the Witch first, and by Balanos' words little after: she was the only member of the party he didn't know before the start of their voyage, and he is quite curious about her and the reasons for which his mother Thindreve hadn't told him about her before. He then answered nearly automatically to Mooraha's welcoming words.

"Greetings, lady Mooraha! You're very kind to invite us to your abode, I'm sure the three of us too big will be fine waiting outside..."

He then exchanges a look and a gesture with the old-time friend Nettleroot, inviting him to approach the newly found but already familiar beings and start the march...

Nettleroot flutters his wings excitedly when the young Pixie presents herself and her Owlbear companion. He rarely met other Pixies on this realm, and she had even managed to capture and train one of the scarier beasts that roamed the Feywild, so he was quite impressed.

In a manner of greeting he engaged her in an intricate welcome dance, swirling around her in a flurry, then whirling as one through a series of loops, corkscrews and curves. They finished smoothly, both angling upwards while facing eachother, a big smile on Nettleroot's face. He already took a liking to this young female, almost as if she were his sister.
"It is a pleasure to meet you too, Mooraha." he says, hovering in the air in a small figure-eight, "Please, lead the way! Oh, no, wait, I'll be right back!"

He holds up his hand, indicating he will be right back, then darts towards the large Bugbear leaving a trail of silvery grey dust in his wake. "Nice to meet you too, Leo! I am sure my two friends will be able to catch something to eat for you and our dinosaur friend. Hold on."

He throws out a ball of pixie dust around him in a friendly gesture to the big creature, then once again shoots off in a different direction, this time past his travelling companions to the rear of the group. There, hiding at the back, two Displacer Beasts eagerly await their Pixie friend.
"Hey there, my friends! Rose, Vink, could you do me a favor while I greet Mooraha? Could you catch something to eat for yourselves, the dinosaur and our new friend Leo?"

The two beasts jump up, excited and looking forward to the hunt. Nettleroot grins and points off to the side. Without hesitation the duo sprints away, looking for some small game to take down and bring back. Nettleroot follows them with his eyes until they disappear behind some shrubs, then quickly returns to Mooraha.
"Hello, sorry about that. I asked my friends to gather a meal for them and the other animals. Gives them something to do while we're talking, right?" he smiles, waiting for the woman to lead him into her home.

Mooraha nods in agreement that the animals should feed.

"Please, Nettleroot, do come in.  I have something to speak to you about."  She waves a gentle hand in Nettleroots direction to encourage his following.

She turns her direction to the rest of the party.  "Stay near and please keep an eye on the animals so as they are not to get into any trouble.  Leo is....well...special...so he usually needs a good watching.  We will be right back"

Mooraha instructs Nettleroot to follow her into the house.  Once they enter she offers a seat by the front window, peering through the drapery.

"Nettleroot, I am so glad that you all have come this way.  I have been terribly worried about Thistlebark.  He has been gone for a while now and he's in search of these cards from the Deck of Many Things.  At first, I thought his idea of these existing was childs play.  But they are true!  They are real and he went into the abby in search of more!  He told me to give this too you when you arrived."

Mooraha walks over to the mantle that rests over the glowing firepit in the common area.  On top of this mantle is a small wooden box, elegantly carved in ornate spirals and drawings.  She gently picks up the box and brings it to Nettleroot.  She lifts the top of the box and very soft, calming music eminates from it.  She reaches in a pulls out a card.

"This is one of the cards he found.  It's the card of the Gem."   She hands it to Nettleroot to examine.

"He said there are many more of these and he went into the Abby just outside the woods to find them.  I'm so worried about him since there is a small town about 10 miles south of the abby called Winterhaven.  This town has been overrun by orcs.  The orcs have been patroling and I'm so terribly worried about his safety in his search."

Never an expressive person, Eternity closes in on himself even further as the group crosses over into the moral realm.  The entire plane seemed as if it were in its death throes and just refused to admit it.  The lack of color, of vibrancy was a poignant reminder of all that Eternity worked to avoid.

Still, being this close to death and dying plane was a facinating opportunity for study.  As the pixies chat, Eternity examines the nearby flora.  He pulls a journal and jots some notes on the nature of a couple of the plants before pulling them from the ground and jotting more notes.  He then casually tosses them aside and examines the ground from which the plants came, widening their root holes in search of any evidence of interaction with the surrounding earth.

He continues in this manner until the pixies have returned.

Nettleroot buzzes with surprise when Mooraha so casually mentions his brother, Thistlebark. Upon seeing the reunion between Leo and the dinosaur he had guessed Mooraha knew at least something about him, but her obvious and immediate concern for his welfare spoke of a much deeper relationship than he had originally suspected.

He looks down at the card in his hand, only now realising he was holding one of the legendary relics known as the Deck of Many Things. His brother had mentioned them quite a few times during their short trips outside of the Court, but up until now Nettleroot, like almost everybody else, had dismissed the tales as nothing more than old tales only vaguely based on something realistic. To actually hold one...

It was a beautiful thing, very much like the legends said they were, but Nettleroot had never made a study out of the arcane, so his knowledge barely went beyond 'Oh, this is a pretty card, it even feels important.'

He looked back up at the Pixie dancing in the air in front of him. She was a pretty young thing, her long dark hair falling in soft curls around her shoulders. The type of Pixie that his brother would certainly take a fancy to. The thought brought a smile to Nettleroot's face. It wouldn't be a bad thing if someone came along to keep his brother in check.
"Knowing Thistle, he could lead those Orcs on a wild goose chase for days. You shouldn't worry about his safety, Mooraha, I would worry about the Orcs, first. But now that we're here, and with the knowledge that the Deck of Many Things is actually real, we should go find my brother as soon as possible! Before he gets up to more mischief!"

Mooraha dances excitedly and clouds the air with pixie dust.

"I have been cleaning every inch of this house out of nervousness and there is only so much to clean. Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!  This makes me feel so much better."

She throws her arms around Nettleroot hugging him tightly then holding him out in front of her by his shoulders.

"Although it's not the orcs that I fear, its the other creatures that dwell within the abby...we must make sure we are prepared for this journey.  I never even leave the house without Leo with me for protection.  Our house here has had a spell cast upon it to keep it from being seen by those whom we don't want finding it.  It's held up pretty well so far and luckily haven't had any encounters of the creatures here.  We must go explain to the others about the cards, we will require their help in finding Thistlebark."

Mooraha places the music box back onto the mantle, turns toward the front door and waves to Nettleroot to follow.

"Come on now, I don't want to keep the rest of the company waiting outside.  Oh, i'm so excited to finally be going adventuring again!"

With Nettleroot now in possesion of his brother's gift, the two pixie's exit the pixie house.  The three non-pixies in the group see a shimmer as the house appears for them.  Mooraha and Nettleroot fly over the stones leading up to the entrance, pixie dust causing them to glow briefly, and fly out to join their companions.
