A short hall opens into a wider, torch-lit chamber. A figure peeks around the corner, looking down the hall. The figure is humansized, with big pointed ears emerging from under its helmet. He screams out, “We’re under attack!” and ducks out of sight to the east.

Gyrdian moves in to strike at the Hobgoblin around the corner, but the creature manages to keep his throat just out of reach.
mechanics Show

Standard: Taste of Life Dex vs FD 1(1d20) +6 = 7
No Action: Life's Losing Hand 11(1d20) +6 = 17 better but still a miss. Can't think of any +1's that I might have missed...

Once Gyrdian finishes attacking the soldier he sees a couple more hobgoblins in the room beyond the open doors.  One of them is wearing robes and is wielding a quarterstaff and the one next to the easternmost wall is an archer with a longbow.  He can also see that the archer has a longsword in a scabbard at his side.

The one in robes says something in goblin while looking over his shoulder which Gyrdian translates, "get the others in here."

Lorenz darts past Gyrdian, putting his back to a wall further in the room.  He quickly scans for more threats, having seen more movement behind the soldier as he moved.  The young elf aims high at the soldier, firing his crossbow.  The bolt strikes the soldier in the shoulder, near his neck and the soldier instinctively drops to a knee lest the next shot hit him in the head.

Mechanics Show

Move: Walk to D,7

Standard: Clever Shot vs Soldier (knock prone if hit): 30 vs AC; 11 damage and the target is knocked prone
16(1d20) +12 +2 = 30; 5(1d10) +6 = 11

I move into the room postioning myself against the other wall across from Lorenz. I raise my hand and aim a spear of ice at the soldier in front of Gyrdian hitting him.
