The Spring Rains are dying down, and tomorrow is Market day in Closroaldo. Already some pushcarts are out--many are little more than posters on wheels with information on the location and wares of the main shop in another district, while others sell the goods of craftsfolk trying to eek out a living selling small items made in their spare time. There is even a pushcart of a local carpenter who manufactures pushcarts (and barrels, crates, wagons, cabinettes...). The market district is paved with cobblestones and sloped to facilitate run-off from rain (and other things) to be washed into stormsewers. (unlike the shadow district, which is mostly mud with crude wooden buildings clapped together.) The buildings are well crafted with stone foundations and Mud&dabble walls held up by stout wooden beams. The Dwarven district has their famed stonework, and the Eladrin district (what is visible above the wall) shows the characteristic crystaline/ceramic towers.
Most of the activity surrounds the statue at the main intersection of the Market District. A tall male in armor stands with one knee forward and chest thrust out, his head slightly turned to the sky, and locks of hair flowing in the breeze. The statue's shield is held at rest, and sword high. Children are held in hand by a parent, or running free in small groups (swarms?). The weather is nice, and tomorrow promisses to be a pleasant MarketDay, with an even better PrayerDay to follow. Each of you are persuing your own errands (replacement rope, new boots, tasty snack, whatever) when
CRACK!
There is a loud noise and dust choaks the air. The soft breeze quickly clears most of the air to show that the side of the Statue's base has broken, and a horde of skelletons emerge. They show signs of foul necromancy as phantom sinue an tendon pull the bones in a sickening parody of walking. Townsfolk scream as one of the skelletons tears out a child's throat with a slash of its clawed hands.
Welcome to Initiative. Roll 'em and we'll start things off. None of you know each other from what I read in backgrounds, so you get to learn what you are capable of and what your characters are like. Invisible castle for die rolls please. I will not audit or micromanage every roll, but spot-check from time to time. If there's a push/pull/mark/immobilize with your attack, be sure to put that in the details text, or chances are it will be lost with everything else I have to take care of. Oh, and pick a color (one that can be read easily--not yellow!) for your IC comments.
Flavor text, sblock actions, sub sblock mechanics (die rolls, effects). Direct quotes of the whole power are optional. If I've missed or forgotten something, I'll add notes later. Let's get to the killing. Map below (hopefully...) Your characters occupy the square that their icons are in the center of (even if there is overlap because I didn't want your icons to be too small to easily identify).
You are both rational and emotional. You value creation and discovery, and feel strongly about what I create. At best, you're innovative and intuitive. At worst, you're scattered and unpredictable.
Bow down, my subjects, for I am your master! Yesss.....Show
Avidar feels moderately uncomfortable walking through the square. Every now and then he got the attention of someone who would stare blankly at him, wondering what he was. It seems like most people haven't seen his kind around these parts.
As he walks suddenly something feels... wrong. He looks up to see the base of the statue blast apart and hordes of skeletons pour out. He didn't know why or how they came to be, but instincts took over. He pulls his weapon and begins to move in their direction, hoping to protect the civilians that now have something else to fear besides him.
By the grace of Corellon...Spinning from his idle contemplation of the treats being sold by a nearby food vendor, Vi'kendrix rips the sheath from his Greatspear as he dashes across the square, dodging around the stunned bystanders. As he lashes out at the nearest skeleton with the tip of his greatspear, he says Stay back! to the child behind him.
Minor: "draw" weapon (I assume Vi'kendrix always has his spear in hand, generally using it as a walking stick, unless it is highly impractical to do so. In town, the tip would be covered by a sheath.) Move: 6 squares to g13, does not go through any bystander's square, but does provoke from those at b9, c8, and c11 if any of them happen to be enemies. Standard: attack with Overwhelming Strike on the Skeleton at i14. If I hit, I shift a square to h13 but cannot slide the Skeleton. MechanicsShow
I don't have a lot of experience with PbP combat, so if I've done something I shouldn't have, failed to do something I should have, or you would like something done differently, let me know!
What?!? That was perfectly good stonework! Gurdain draws his rod and summons his sword in a burst of flame as he prepares to blast the undead things into ash.
Jillian Spins at the crack, and seeing the skeletons pouring from the statue, "Bloody Hells! Get back, you fools, get the guards (to nearby civilians)! Outa my way!" Without hesitation, she whips out her axe and charges into the fray yelling incoherently.
Standard Action, Greataxe Target: One Creature Attack: +6 vs. AC Hit: 1d12 + 4, and the target is subject to Jillian's Divine Sanction until the end of her next turn. Special: When charging Jillian can use this power in place of a MBA.
Some paladin powers and some feats subject a target to Jillian's divine sanction. Being subject to it means the target is marked by Jillian for a duration specified in the description of the power or feat. Unless otherwise noted, the mark ends before the specified duration if someone else marks the target. Until the mark ends, the target takes radiant damage equal to 3 + Jillian's Strength (Blessed Strength) modifier the first time each round it makes an attack that doesn’t include her as a target (7 Radiant Damage).
Minor Action Close Burst 5 Target: One Creature in the Burst Effect: Jillian marks the target. The mark lasts until Jillian uses this power again. The mark also ends at the end of Jillian's turn if she didn’t engage the target, meaning she neither attacked it during her turn nor are adjacent to it at the end of her turn. Until the mark ends, the target takes radiant damage the first time each round when it targets any of Jillian's allies with an attack power that doesn’t include her as a target. The damage equals 3 + her Strength (Blessed Strength) modifier (7 Radiant Damage). Special: Jillian can only use this power once per turn.
Standard Action, Greataxe Target: One Creature Attack: +6 vs. Fortitude Hit: 2d12 + 4, and Jillian pushes the Target a number of squares equal to her Wisdom modifier (2). Jillian can then shift to the nearest square adjacent to the target.
Minor Action Channel Divinity: You can use only one Channel Divinity power per encounter. Effect: Apply your Strength modifier (+4) as extra damage to your next attack this turn.
Minor Action Close Burst 10 Target: One Creature in Burst Channel Divinity: You can use only one Channel Divinity Power per encounter. Effect: The Target makes a saving throw with a bonus equal to your Charisma modifier (+0)
Minor Action, Melee Touch Healing Target: One Creature Special: You can use this power a number of times per day equal to your Wisdom modifier (2), but only once per round. Effect: Jillian spends a healing surge but regain no hit points. Instead, the target regains hit points as if it had spent a healing surge. Jillian must have at least one healing surge remaining to use this power.
Standard Action, Greataxe Reliable Target: One creature Attack: +6 vs. AC Hit: 4d12 + 4 Effect: Jillian takes 5 damage, which can't be reduced in any way.
Steve Rogers was calmly wandering around the Bazaar, looking to see if he could buy some shield polish, or better yet, hair wax. He tried to coax a local vendor into selling him bees wax in place of the actual products he wanted by flexing his muscles, but the vendor merely eyed him like so many others. Strange. Leaving behind the vendor after rejection, Steve decides to stand in the middle of the market, likely blocking traffic as usual.
When the statue exploded, he deftly unslung his shield and readied it for combat. With the dust settling, Steve spies the crumpled form of a child and yells, "Nooooooo!! Not lil Jessie!!" even though he has no idea what the child's actual name is.
Powers MBA: +9, 1d6+6. Greenflame Blade (Standard): +9, 1d6+6 Fire. Enemies adjacent take 2(STR) fire damage. Luring Strike (Standard): +9, 1d6+1. Steve shifts 1 square, and slides the target in the space. Before or after the attack, Steve can shift 1 square. Sword Burst (Standard: Reflex)(Close Burst 1: enemies): +6, 1d6+6 Force. Aegis of Assault (Minor)(Close Burst 2): Mark a creature; Aegis of Assault immediate reaction.

Gem Steeler, (Mstr Sgt, ret.) finds the local eladrin... irritating. But that's normal around here. Anyway, the garrison commander won't be able to deny her her experience... Perhaps she could find work training the local garrison. By the look of the troops she had seen in this area, they needed a lot of help. She would inform them of this, oh yes she would... Suddenly there was an explosion... Gem's eyes widened in shock and anger as the undead horrors burst from the statue's base and began their carnage.
Her eyes narrow. She draws her sword. As she does so, she can see several others flying to the counterattack. InitiativeShow
Initiative Gem Steeler (1d20+3=15) WhisperMagellan, you said two backgrounds. I also took the gritty sergeant background which gives her a +1 to init to go along with her +2 for combat leader warlord class feature, for the +3

Unfortunately, I have been having login issues with InvisibleCastle, so I will use CoCo instead. I like to have my rolls legitimately logged so that you know it is in fact me playing the game. Plus, CoCo does a good job of arranging the dice rolls according to rounds, so that you can get the character's previous rolls in a given encounter as well-- which is cool
"Oh, this is wonderful..." Enara whispered to herself, as the crack overwhelmed the serenity of the surrounding streets. She was about to return back to the eladrin district, when skeletons began pouring out from the base of the statue. "...and just when things couldn't get any weirder!"

Well, it was possible to lose initiative war, but not the way I rolled this morning.
Vi'kendrix charges in and uses a quite aptly Overwhelming strike. He knows from experience that his attack was a perfect hit. Any less precesion and he would have missed. Better though, is the skelleton breaking into bone fragments as the necrotic energy holding it together is rent asunder.
These skelletons have AC16, and you did more damage than it could hack.
Next up: Tiornys/Vi'kendrix Alexandr/Steve <<<<<<<<<<< DLI/Avidar <<<<<<<<< Xeadin/Enara Nahab/Gem Crimson/Gurdian ??? ??? Klockwork/Jillian Normally I resolve ties in initiative by who has the better bonus, but it doesn't really matter at the momment. --Mostly that's for player or monster. Player/player decide for yourselves.
