Does anyone know if a vorpal crit is an instant kill? It says that you reroll any maximum damage dice until you roll one that is not maximum, but on a crit., all damage rolls are maximum, right? So does a crit. with a vorpal weapon do infinite damage?

I thought that on a crit you don't roll dice at all, you just do maximum damage. So a crit with a vorpal weapon would just do max damage. That said, I'm not familiar with the vorpal weapon all that much..

If I remember this correctly, the weapon damage is maxed out on a crit, but the extra die is not. So, in the case of a vorpal weapon you max the weapons initial damage, but you roll the extra damage die. If you get the max number you roll again until you don't get that number again. It even says to reroll if you get maximum result and keep adding.
Its wizards way of nerfing the vorpal property so its not the goto "I kill you in one hit" weapon, while still making it very useful.

Ok, next question. Is there any rule about falling damage if you land on someone? For example, let's say I fall off a 10 foot cliff and hit a creature. Does the thing I hit take damage?

RAW, no such thing exists. But it's a pretty good assumption to make that they do take some damage.
If someone falls on someone else in my campaign I take their falling damage, divide by two. The faller takes half, and the fallee takes the other half.
