Nobody interested in offering player advice?

For my part, I find the most important thing to do as a player is be clear and concise on exactly what I am doing mechanically, to prevent game slowing confusion. Once I have my typical character sheet set up, my typical combat post will go something like this

Fluffy descriptions of my actions and their general effects
Mechanics Show
Minor Action - Activate Battlefury Stance
Move Action - Move to X:3
Standard Action - Use Tide of Iron
Attack - add roll link here
Damage - add roll link here and the target is pushed to X:5. I shift to X:4
Effect - Any effects that occur regardless of his or miss
Powers Used Show
Battle Fury Stance (Dragon 382)
Encounter – Martial, Stance
Minor Action – Personal
Effect: You gain a +2 power bonus to damage rolls with weapon attacks but suffer a –2 penalty to AC. You cannot end this stance on the same turn that you enter it. The bonus damage from this stance increases to +4 at 11th level and +6 at 21st level.
Special: This stance ends when you spend a healing surge. You can end this stance as a free action during your turn.

Tide of Iron (PHB1)
At-Will – Martial, Weapon
Standard Action – Melee Weapon
Requirement: You must be using a shield
Target: One creature
Attack: +10 vs. AC
Hit: 1d10+5 damage and you push the target 1 square if it your size, one size smaller than you, or one size larger than you. You can hift into the square the target occupied.
Current Stats Show
AC: 16 Fort: 17 Reflex: 11 Will: 13
HP: 20/37 (color red when bloodied)
Bloodied Value: 18
Healing Surges: 11/11
Surge Value: 9
Status:Battle Fury Stance
Speed: 6
Initiative: +1
Other Relevant Information:
Action Points: 1

[]Second Wind
[]Longtooth Shifting
[]Passing Attack
[X]Battle Fury Stance

[]Villain's Menace
[]Horn Tusk Armor (Encounter)
Other Relevant Combat Information Show

Blade Opportunist - +2 to opportunity attacks with a heavy blade
Combat Superiority - +2 bonus to oppotunity attack rolls. If an opportunity attack hits, the targets movement is ended.

Everything is clearly displayed and written and the DM can check power effects and keywords as necessary. Further, it lets the DM determine my remaining HP and remaining available powers. This last part is important should the DM A)need to NPC me for a turn or B)Want to fudge the encounter down a bit if the party id doing particuarly poorly. All the above information is also typically included in my character sheet post as well, at least when I've got it fully written up (I've been slacking on character sheets recently)

Something else I've been mulling over as far as player advice. Talk to your fellow players and discuss with expectations and allowances with them.
  • Do your characters clash in any way, personality or combat wise? Good example of this would be a rogue who is constantly trying to flank with a ranger outfitted for one on one combat.
  • If your playing a character who can grant free attacks, ask your teammates if you can roll the attacks to speed game flow.
  • Discuss treasure distribution and conflicting item desires. If two of you want the same item, try to come to a consensus on who gets it first if you find one.

I have a question that just might fit in here....

What could a player do to help keep a pbp going and to help keep it from dying out?

I have a question, if anyone sees it.  Are there any non-lethal weapons in 4e?  I am looking for whips, saps, or anything for a bounty hunter I am building, and can find no nonlethal weapons to use for live capture.  What is a fellow to do?

A. Whips, nets and bolas, along with mastery feats for them, were introduced in Dragon 368.

B.

When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points or fewer, you can choose to knock it unconscious rather than kill it. Until it regains hit points, the creature is unconscious but not dying. Any healing makes the creature conscious. If the creature doesn’t receive any healing, it is restored to 1 hit point and becomes conscious after a short rest.

-Player's Handbook, page 295

So, the whole bounty hunter thing goes pretty smooth.

Seriously, though, you should check out the PbP Haven.  You might also like Real Adventures, IF you're cool.
