    Another card from 2010

    Monday, April 25, 2011, 10:42 AM

    Reality Distortion
    Enchantment
Morph (You may cast this face down as a 2/2 creature for . Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)
: Target creature gains flyin until end of turn.
: Return a creature you control to owners hand.
: Target creature and Reality Distortion phase out. (While they're phased out, they're treated as though they don't exist. Each one phases in before its controller untaps during his or her next untap step.)
"What's it mean to be a wizard?"
"You can do things others only dream of..."

The criteria: Make a card using morph in an UNIQUE way, unlike anything done previously. think non-creature permanents with morph, strange costs, etc. feel free to tweak the mechanics should you see fit (a la multikicker or plainscycling).

    PeregrineV

Flavor - 3/3 extra packets of flavorsauce
    Balance - 3/3 balanced
Wording/Formatting – 1/3 MORPH COSTS ON THE BOTTOM
Personal Bias - 0/3 fine this card is way to eclectic for me.
    Uniqueness - 1/3 Enchantemorph. MEH.

    Total: 8/15

More old cards from YMtC thread:

    Monday, April 25, 2011, 10:28 AM

More old cards from YMtC thread:

    Summoner's Cauldron

     Artifact

: Add 1 mana of each of any two separate colors to your mana pool. This mana can only be used to cast creature spells.

A cauldron will add spice to any summoning chamber. Really jazz yours up and try a smoking cauldron, complete with self-ignition and built-in thermometer. -Ye Olde Catalougeof Magickal Implements

Create a card that cares about how mana it produces is spent

    PeregrineV - 11
The flavour text is not to be tastes but works. On a 4-cost artifact, this feels as though it could push the power level a little more, but maybe not, since in a ramp deck this could get powered out quite early. Why force the mana to be of separate colours? Unnecessarily complicated.

    Allied Assault
    Tribal Sorcery- Ally
Search your library for two Ally creatures and place them onto the battelfield.
All Ally creatures have haste and vigilance until the end of the turn.

The power of thier numbers is feared by some and envied by all.

Create a tribal instant or sorcery.

    PeregrineV - 9
Boring, to be frank. The flavour text is nice, straddling the line between gut-wrenchingly cliche and yet still noble and fantasy. I think it falls on the right side. It makes sense to be a colourless card, but at the same time, I'm not sure if I like this. There's a precedent in place — colourless cards are Eldrazi or artifacts. I don't think this card is special enough to pull of being a colourless spell. Especially when the second ability (which is pulling the card off-focus) ties it to some collection of WRG.

    Food Chain
    Sorcery

Target creature becomes a basic land - Forest with no other abilites.
It gains ": Add one to your mana pool."

Many a sapling has been nourished on the bones of the fallen.

Create a card that represents the "evil" side of green.

    PeregrineV - 7
[Food Chain] so hmm. Your flavour text is exactly what flavour text should be, though. I was gonna make a criticism on the logic that turning something into trees isn't food chainy, but I understand. It does stretch the idea of the card, though, and a more evocative name would've been better. The mechanic is fine, but would be better as an Aura to work around memory issues. Also, this card is a little bit too close to creature destruction that I am uncomfortable with it in green. Would've been happier to see it cost G or 1G and be "target creature you control" and have been an instant.

    Parting Shot
    Enchantment

Whenever a creature you control goes to the graveyard from the battlefield due to lethal damage, the player or creature that caused the damage takes 2 damage.

It becomes much easier to deal with the loss of a loved one after vengence is complete.

Create a card that represents loss, flavourfully or mechanically.

    PeregrineV - 7
The problem with cards like this which care about lethal damage is that it does officially have a definition, but not an easy to work with one. Say we have a 2/2 creature with 1 damage, and then that creatures gets -1/-1 - it's not been "dealt lethal damage" so what happens? It's a nice idea, but I'm not sure it's workable, purely because of the problems in its technical nature. Players never cause a damage, to when you Lava Dart   someone, this ability doesn't know what to do. What about multiple creature dealing damage at the same point, and the above "damage only become lethal later in the turn" example.

    Spirit of Guul Draz
    Instant
    Target player discards a card.

Splice onto Creature ,Discard a card (As you cast a creature spell, you may reveal this card from your hand and pay its splice cost. If you do, add this card's effects whenever that creature deals damage.)

Make a card with the keyword [Splice onto {something}]

    PeregrineV - 10
I was originally going to moan at you about splicing a card onto a creature when that ability makes no sense, then I noticed your reminder text. That's not what Splice does, and although it may be interesting to make an ability like this (in fact, it is quite a cool ability) it is NOT splice

Mindmeld {cost} (As you cast a creature spell, you may pay {cost}. If you do, that creature comes into play with this spell melded on it. Whenever that creature deals damage to that player, you may copy this spell and cast it without paying its mana cost.)

I like it, and with that ability this card would work, and it is pretty original and nice. But, as I said, it's not splice and works differently enough from the well-defined splice that I have to be mean about this.

    Under Cover of Darkness
    Enchanment

During your upkeep, choose a creature you control.
It is unblockable and gains shroud until your next upkeep.

Only the darkness hides the shape
    Of further peril to escape.

Create a card whose flavour text comes from the following poem — The Storm Cone, by Rudyard Kipling.

Clarification: You may use as much or as little as the poem as you like, but you may not add anything (except for an attribution to any character; or to Kipling or whatever)

    PeregrineV - 8/20
This is supposed to be blue right? Right? If so - it's alright. Good take on darkness. If not - you're wrong. Unfortunately, the text selection and name indicate to me that you intend it to be black. Which it's not.

    Gemini Twins
    Creature - Human Warrior/Cleric

Gemini Twins enters the battelfield with either a Nestor counter or Pollux counter.
: ~ gains +X/+X until the end of the turn if there is a Nestor counter on ~.
: Prevent x+1 damage dealt this turn to target player or target creature if there is a Pollux counter on ~.

    2/2

Mortal and immortal, warrior and healer, brothers living eternally in the heavens by the grace of Zues.

Create a card with two or more activated abilities.

    PeregrineV - 6/20
Different counter types isn't such a good idea. There was even a question about it in the GDS if I recall. Even if it has only one of them, there's still an inherent memory issue there. The first ability is pretty overpowered, but unfortunately the second is busted. Zero plus 1 is 1, so you can just prevent all damage ever.

    Insane Fetch
    Creature- Homunculus

    Haste
: All triggered activities of all permanents on the battlefield activate as if triggered.

    0/2

By the time you find out they are defective, it’s already too late. The pruning has long ago stopped, and the planting has begun.

Create a card from the fictional future set that Bonded Fetch came from. I'll be looking for flavour, as well as mechanics.

    PeregrineV - 14/20
    Cycle fill - Check
I would word it 'Trigger all triggered abilities'. It's innovative, a little too 'tech language' card for me - a lot of players misunderstand what triggered abilities are, the 'intervening if' clause and all that. I can see this card starting arguments. But its cool. So, cool points for you.

    Rescue Ranger
    Creature- Human Scout

: Regenerate target creature with toughness less than Rescue Ranger's power.

    2/2

Create a card that relates to some kind of rescue. You may interpret this however you wish.

    PeregrineV - 15/20
Awful name for a really solid card. I've never seen this kind of effect before, kudos to you.

    3rd Place Winner

    Wednesday, March 23, 2011, 10:57 PM

A second part of the contest, with this criteria:

    community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

In Magic, there are many things that express flavor and emotion. Obsidian Fireheart  and even maybe Serra Angel . In card design, it can be cool to create a cool new mechanic, but one of your goals should be to evoke a reaction.

Criteria: Design a card which evokes an emotion. As in, if a player were to open a booster pack and see this card staring back at them, they should feel something. Flavor will be big in this round. Remember to be creative, you will never be docked for doing something wacky like creating a new card type, or even spinoff like Archenemy or Planechase. Experiment, and embrace your imagination.

    Summoner's Bond
    Enchantment

, Pay 1 life: Regenerate a creature you control.

"Those that we summon before us are not mere pawns for our glory. They fight to protect us from the harm that others would do to us. If our blood would protect them, should we not bleed? As their blood protects us, should ours not spare them from death?"

    Results:

Awesome. It actually feels like I'm saving my creatures, and the flavor text makes me cry. I actually have nothing more to say, it's so good.

    Poison Counter Counter card

    Friday, March 18, 2011, 9:53 PM

OKay so Scars and Besieged gave us poison and -1/-1 counters again for two whole sets sooo....
I was thinking theres has to be something that the inhabitants of Mirrodin can do to remove these counters.

Criteria: Create a card which would be consider infect-icide, removal of counters from creatures and players.

    community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...

    Reborn
    Sorcery
Set your life total and posion counter total to what it was at the beginning of the game.

Casting off the past brings back the joys of youth.

    Grade:

PeregrineV: interesting idea but has a more MTGO feel to it, 8/10

    2 more magic cards

    Monday, February 28, 2011, 4:37 PM

    Made according to this criteria:

There are many types in Magic, obviously. It's what makes the game fun and flavorful! Creature types can also do mechanical things, such as affecting how players build their decks. However, something we haven't seen much of is noncreature subtypes. We had a taste of it within Zendikar with "Trap" cards, and we also learned that subtypes on a noncreature general is equivilent to keywords like Radiance and Hellbent...they're just flavorful.

We also had Quests in Zendikar, which was a great way to bring across the "Adventure world" feel of the set.

Criteria: Design a noncreature card with a new subtype that would fit into Mercadia's system of marketing, bartering, and trading.

Who knows, your mechanic may even end up in the YMtC large spring set Requiro!

    Free Trade Agreement     [Rare]
    Enchantment- Exchange

When ~ enters the battlefield, target opponent gains control of it. When they do, you choose a creature and gain control of it, or choose a random card from their hand and cast it without paying it's mana cost.
When ~ leaves the battlefield, it's controller gains a life.

While most embraced the concept of the open world market, others felt there were clear winners and losers in the deal.

    Dow Jones Laboratory
