This is the place for you to ask questions of staff, join a hosting list, discuss issues and see the latest announcements. If you need basic information about mafia or the forum, you can find it here.

If you have a question, approach myself or Stinky. Silly and Rag's roles are to assist in issues of thread maintance and to stand around and look pretty.

For those recently returning or still active, I highly recommend reading this thread.

Corrections Office

These are the guidelines involving activity and rule breaking. In short, activities such as cheating, unsportsmanlike conduct, and chronic inactivity may be subject to review by the staff. Most users will not have to worry about breaking any of the rules as long as they are simply respectful of others and the game itself. If you'd like an in-depth explanation on what these rules are and why they exist, you can find the relevant information below.

On Probation

Spoiler: Show
No one yet.

On Suspension

Spoiler: Show
No one yet.

Punishable Offenses

Spoiler: Show

  • Breaking the rules of a mafia game. This includes, but is not limited to quoting your role pm, communicating with other players illegally, and signing up for one game under multiple accounts.
  • Playing against your team's win condition. (This rule does not apply if you are self aligned)*
  • Being intentionally rude, troublesome, or offensive to other members of the forum, ingame and out.
  • Repeatedly joining games and going inactive without notifying anybody.
  • Any other action that the GMs determine to have a negative effect on the quality of the boards.

* This exception has been made because as a self aligned player, you generally are not harming anyone else but yourself by playing against your win conditions. For example, as a survivor, you are allowed to help the town even if it would be better to just hand the game over to the mafia and grab the win. This exception does not mean that you can post thousands of pictures of hamsters in the game thread and get yourself intentionally modkilled.

Details

Spoiler: Show

Please note that these rules are in place solely to weed out problem users. They are not meant to force you to conform to the model "Paranoia Paradise Playstyle". You will not have to play in a very competitive manner if you do not want to. There are those who like to play in a more casual way than others and there is no desire to change that. Things like FFP's No Lie Policy and Ragnarokio's gimmicks are fine under the current rules. However, things like intentionally throwing the game or getting yourself modkilled because you did not like your role are not.

In addition, the player in question should usually be given the benefit of the doubt when deciding whether or not an action breaks the above rules. For example, a new player who is unaware of the PM quoting rule will not be punished for breaking the rule. In addition, plays of questionable quality, such as a town player lying about their own abilities in an attempt to live longer, are not going to be punished either. The goal of these rules is to punish malicious players, not ignorant and/or stupid ones.

If a "problem situation" does arise, the staff will first contact that player to discuss the matter. In addition, if it is possible to do so without sensitive information being released, input from other players will be gathered. Everyone will get to explain the situation from their own point of view before the staff makes their decision. There will never be a punishment without a "trial" beforehand.

Basically, just remember that a mafia is a cooperative game, as well as a significant investment of time and attention. Just because you may not care about a particular game doesn't mean that nobody does, and intentionally ruining games will probably make at least eleven other people very unhappy. As long as you evaluate how your actions will affect other players before making them, you shouldn't have any problems.

If you have questions about any of the information here, feel free to contact any one of the GMs to ask.

Dropbox Archive

The dropbox archive is a collection of html files that contain the individual post counts of users and their actual posts. You can use them to monitor activity and search posts. They have to be manually updated however so they are not going to often include up to the second info.

You can fetch the HTML files yourself if you have Google Chrome. Install the extension here and follow directions listed.

For those curious as to what's going to happen soon: there's going to be a few more rules for the health of the forum that are going up. I need to discuss their exact implementation with SJT but I'm pretty sure they're going to happen. Like all the other rules I think they'll be for the better.

I'm going to combine the two FAQ threads, their dual combined existence seems unnecessary.

Check here for more updates on updates () or if you have particular concerns or issues to address. I and SJT are listening.

I'd like feedback on this from our players:

"Mini" is more of a MafiaScum term. It's fine and everything but I used to enjoy our basic/intermediate/expert system. I'd like something more in mesh with x/intermediate/expert.

Given that "minis" are going to be our defining game for awhile, I'd like to see us come up with a new personalized name for them. I don't like basic anymore given that we're giving more freedom to the moderators to do things outside of a box of set roles.

I was thinking "limited" might be a good name, given the limited size of players constrains the design size.

Another name could be "Standard," from the vantage point 12 player is standard, intermediate is a step beyond, expert etc.

Thoughts? Other suggestions are fine, but I really don't want to get rid of intermediate as a name.

I'm also dumping the "INT/INT+" thing as a required designation. For "minis" we might do "Mini/Mini+" given that we're going to have dynamic variance in them now, to separate very complex set ups from your typical "basic" kind of perceptions.

How much design freedom will be given?

That would enter into my opinion a bit.
Somewhere in the system there is an open ended list of all the lies we tell unblinking, thinking, what could we be living?

I believe the official guidelines aren't up yet (need to hammer one or two things out with SJT) but for experienced moderators the limit will be "is this balanced." Granted, 12 players is going to kneecap a lot of silliness in terms of balance. So it should refer to a 12 player game's existence rather than the type of roles in it.

In a "Mini+", will mods be allowed to lie?
