Mythos Mafia Something's rotten in the town of Arkham, perhaps the entire world. The Old Ones are rising, the stars will soon be right...
Some of of the most notable figures of Arkham and the Dreamlands have decided to take action, and the Old Ones have taken notice. Between the lot of them, they could have enough knowledge to delay the inevitable fall of earth into a new dark age -- if they don't go insane first. The Rules -- Updated 10/25

- Bold and Color your votes. Votes that are not both bold and in color will not be counted. You must post your votes in the following format -- Vote: Urist McScumpants. To unvote, simply Unvote. You must unvote before you can vote again, and bold and color your unvote for it to be counted.
- Game days will last to the announced deadline, or a majority lynch. In the event of mod lazyness delaying the lynch post as may occur, votes after the deadline WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
- If a majority of all living players are, at any point, voting for a single player, that player will be lynched -- his pleas for mercy fall on deaf ears, as do any attempts to unvote
- If, at the deadline, a majority of all living players are voting, the current vote leader will be lynched. If there is a tie, the most recent vote will be unvoted until there is no tie, and the vote leader is lynched.
- If the game reaches the deadline and there is not a simple majority of all living players voting (before tie-breaker unvotes), the day will end with no lynch.
- Once your death has been posted by the mod, you are dead and may make only one more post. It can't contain any game-relevant information.
- Do not discuss the game outside the game thread unless your role specifically permits you to.
- Once night has fallen, no posting until dawn. Period. I will not be tolerant of shenanigains, though I may forgive an obvious mistake.
- Night lasts 72 hours for sending roles and then 24 more for me to arrange and execute all roles. Roles sent after the first 72 hours of night will not count.
- If you anticipate being missing for more than 72 hours at any time, inform me in thread. Please bold and color your statement, or I might miss it and accidentally replace you, and no one wants that.
- Do not edit your post. Do not post in white or invisible text. You will be warned, unwillingly replaced, or modkilled depending on the severity of the offense.
- 10/25: Anything I post in Italics (notably, the first person narration) is flavor text. It has no meaning other than setting a mood. Trying to derive meaning from it is meaningless.
There are a few things potential investigators need to know about the Mythos Threat, and how things will work in Arkham. I believe in being upfront about some mechanics, especially since this is a PC level game, which means nothing normal is guaranteed. As such, the two weirdest aspects of Mythos Mafia – Sanity & the Dreamlands – will be explained now in as much detail as is possible without spoilers. Sanity and Insanity

What do sanity and insanity mean? Sanity is a binary state. That is, you are either sane or you are insane, and the game at large does not care about a middle ground. Most characters start Sane and can become insane over the course of the game.
What happens to the crazies? Everyone breaks differently. If a character has an “insane” state (some characters can’t go insane), that state alters or transforms his or her role. Anything about the character can change: Abilities, title, role name(!), and even possibly alignment. Most characters, however, will know what will happen if they go Insane as part of keeping this game from being too bastardly: In semi-rare circumstances the information in your Role PM might be deliberately incomplete about what happens to you when you go insane. If your role PM does not contain a line about when you are Insane, you cannot go insane. As a final note on this topic, Insanity isn’t always a bad thing… after all, there are some horrors from which the relief of insanity is a blessed reprieve, and some cases where a deranged mind might have the vision necessary to counter the otherworldly threat (or aid it!)
How does it happen? Insanity conditions are different for every character. MOST characters that can go insane will have a condition listed, so that even if it is out of their control they can at least know what will drive them crazy. One or more characters may have no listed insanity condition, but a listed insanity. In this case, it is EITHER true that the Insanity condition is deliberately hidden, OR that the character has no special insanity condition. Any character with an Insane state can also be driven insane by certain other roles and game mechanics that induce insanity.
Is there a cure? No role has a condition under which it sanes it up, but there may or may not be a “sanity doc” that can cure some forms of insanity. Whether or not such a role has been included is a strict Design File Secret.
The Dreamlands

Many roles in this game are “Dreamlands Native”. In a mechanical sense, this means that they can continue to post on the thread once night has fallen. The dreamlands natives might or might not contain Arkham-aligned roles and might or might not contain Cultist-aligned roles: They could consist entirely of one, entirely of the other, of a mix of both, or of neither (dun dun DUN!).
If you are not a Dreamlands Native, DO NOT post on the thread at night! This rule is present in just about every game that I know of, but it is rather critical to the game play in Mythos because there is a select subset of roles that are allowed to ignore it. Please, PLEASE respect this.
