      Love this. I've always been upset by roleplaying worlds where the economy didn't make sense (who has 5 million GP hanging around to give you when you sell that magic item in the local town?), and this article fills a role that, though I never considered it, is totally necessary, AND also makes sense within the economy of the Realms. Thanks so much for this. I'd also pay money for a collection of these articles.

      These articles are great for mining roles and jobs people are called themselves and by others in the realms. I had to look up most of some of the archaic terms on the dictionaries online, for actual literal definitions or word history. This article saves me time on running a flavor filled game with people with real modeled 'medieval' related time period roles in any community you might cross.
      I think that in our current age, when we don't usually read texts with those names of job roles...

      On Twitter John DuBois made a good point: Living Divine basically offers this right now. It's own world, with new rules, and potential for actions to have consequences. Have you checked it out?

      Living Divine (while a good idea and a step in the right direction, and I applaud the work of its creators) doesn't cut it because it's very specific about it's campaign goals. It's a game about becoming divine. That's a form of D&D, but it isn't a typical D&D experience.
      But Jester basically nailed it: WOTC Legal will hinder any organized play campaign because the idea that people actually play in the world is a threat to control of the supposed IP, WOTC OP will also want a piece...

      Because I don't want to see this column go, I'm going to be selfish and ask you to write another couple entries.
      We have learned a bunch about Iomandra, but I'm extremely curious about the type of campaign you are considering running next. Therefore, I would really appreciate you giving us some insight into the themes that are getting you excited for the next go around.
      I think this would be the perfect "intermission" for you column, as I refuse to believe you have run out of topics...

      I have few words that can do my thoughts justice, but I'd like to try. Very simply, Dungeon Mastering is the reason I can feel "okay" in this place, and your words are the reason I am a Dungeon Master. I don't think I can ever thank you enough for that.

      Due to various circumstances, I had to do a flashfoward in my very first campaign. It was more of a learning experience for me than anything else, and I love the memories that came with it. I decided then to have the campaign help set the mood and world for the 2nd campaign I recently started, whereas it was the original world now polished up and 10+ years after Torog's death and freedom. I think ending campaigns is bittersweet.

      At the end of the day I really do not aim to limit my players and their choices. Almost all of my group are rookies and to limit them seems unfair. That being said I was making a riverworld campaign and I let everyone know that certain races were not in the world. Now my newest player wanted desperately to play a changling (and I hate those guys). I said that "I can't see how to fit this race into my world/story." Then I sat on it... What a great opportunity to have her shine as a roleplayer...

      In the campaign I'm starting this isnt much a a problem. I have two humans (artificer and ranger), an Eladrin (spellsword), and one Shardmind (Paladin). The Shardmind will be an interesting concept and I plan to use him and his appearance to heavily sway peoples views.

      So sad to have come across this, but it doesn't surprise me.
      I've played many campaigns in various settings, and DMed plenty more all over the place, and had a lot of fun.
      But then, several years ago, I discovered Birthright. Much later than when it came out, but Birthright still changed the game for me. The first campaign I DMed, started in humble Tuornen in Anuire, and ended up with a party that included a descendant of Roele who didn't know it until it was all said and done, and...
