So, I was part of a great Dark Sun campaign over 10 years ago, which was 2E. We had character trees, and made liberal use of the combat and tactics and skills and powers books to do a little homebrew campaign. Recently, i unearthed the folder with these old characters. Our campaign was based around The Army of the Seven Angry Tembos, in Balic after the events of the Prism Pentad in the revised campaign. We kept psionics from the first edition though. I have tried to remake them for 4E, spiritually if not completely mechanically.......
Malvoleo of the Wastes, Male Half Elf Air Cleric/Fighter with the Oracle Kit. I have re-imagined him as a Warlord first with the Elemental Priest theme, but that was not optimized enough to suit me, so I lost the spear and shield image and them I used for him, and made him an Ardent with the Elemental Priest them. he had a hell of a powerful wild talent thanks a lucky roll back in 2E. Now, just a way to get his visions back..... Whisper Dawnchaser, Male Elf Fighter/Thief. He was an archer with few peers, and was quite handy with daggers as well. I have re-imagined him as a Ranger with the Hunter Build because he was equally good in ranged or melee, and will choose multi-class thief at second level for a feat to add thievery and some back stabbing. I gave him the Wasteland Nomad theme. He also had a some very powerful wild talents in 2E, no way to correct that in 4E. Gangrenel, Male Dual Classed Psionisist/Gladiator. he was a drajian killing machine that very little could hurt for long. As he used psionics so heavily along with his tortoise blades, I have re-imagined him as a Resilient Battlemind with the Gladiator theme. At the moment, he is not finished yet. Hmmm, perhaps he is a wilder themed fighter with the arena training class feature...... Selena Twilightcatcher, Female Elf Wizard with the Wild Mage kit. She was Whisper's longsister (sharing the same father) in another clan of the same tribe. She was allied with the veiled alliance. Wild Magic was really fun, so I think she will be a Wild Sorcerer with probably Veiled Alliance theme when I get around to her. In order to optimize her, as an elf, she will be a wizard though. She wont be a wild mage, but she spent more time in Tyr managing the elven market than with her tribe so maybe I can add some city skills..... Well, so far i have been enjoying the new Dark Sun material for 4E. I have not really gone over much of the old 2E version to see what could be missing or enhanced. I think that the kits of 2E could be easily turned into themes for 4E, but i am not sure if I have that issue (or issues) of Dragon any longer. I have been kind of obsessed with a slave soldier theme, beyond the mul racial paragon path. I am interested in what other themes could be created. As for Dark Sun feats, I believe they have really overlooked specific racial feats for each race for Dark Sun. Or for that matter, adding/subtracting racial abilities to account for Dark Sun. For example, Elves are fast like the wind, in 2E they were much faster than all other races, shoudn't there be a racial ability beyond what they have in standard DnD? Or Dwarven Focus? Or Thri-Kreen weapon profiency in Chatkcha and Gythka? Any other suggestions? I really hope that WoTC gives this product some support in new material past this initial burst. For anyone who is interested, my brother and I have been discussing the new Dark Sun for 4th Edition. He is primarily a Games Workshop player now, and has not played 4th Edition yet, but I am trying to change that!! We both played Dark Sun in 2E, original and revised, with the skill point system of combat and tactics n skills n powers in an extensive homebrew campaign. Here is the link to his page: twilight40k.blogspot.com/p/dark-sun-4e.h... Please forgive any grammitical or spelling errors, we are obviously not editing anything for print. I am commenting under my wife's google account, so I show up as Jody in the comments section of most sections. If you have any observations that you would like to share, please do so!! Hello
