Sometimes a criticism of 4e comes up "Marking!? OMG It's MMO TAUNTING AM I PLAYING WOW!?!? -strawman". This comes up quite a few time in different places (or in the same place over and over even) for me to take a moment, do a bit of research and compile a nice little post about why this isn't so. My answer to that is, no, it is not magic powers for someone to protect his allies and punish somebody else for ignoring him, it's perfectly within the realm of 'reality', as far as you want it to be in D&D.
