OK so im getting ready to make my dm purchases ive already decided that i want to use minatures instead of sticking to tokens and im not a big fan of the plastic little things Wizards sells so im getting stuf from Reaper and other places but i need help deciding on a few more things

one thing i need to know is which adventure is it best to start on, should i just start with H1 Keep on the Shadowfell and just keep going with the series or are there better things to do, i kinda like the forgotten realms

second thing i need to know is should i get the essencials DM guide or the full DM kit

and last is which is do u think is best to invest in Maps or Tiles

and if anyone wanna suggest afew other helpful items i would love that

The Essentials DM kit boxed set is a good starting point, includes the handy sized DMG, a selection of pogs (although you already said you prefer mini's) and an excellent 2-part starting adventure ideal for beginning dm's and parties (with fold out maps).

I'm slightly biased as I love the Forgotten Realms (having played it for 30+ years now) so I would highly recommend it, the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide also contains a good starting adventure and plot hooks to take it further though you'll have to create your own maps for them. The only "published" adventure for the Realms is the Scepter Tower of Spellguard, which I havent played myself but have read through for background notes, which is quite reasonable. Plus you can access the Living Forgotten Realms adventures (through the forums on the community site) and they have some excellent (usually player written) adventures.

The H-series of published adventures are very good as they contain everything except the mini's that you'll need and several of the maps are reusable in your own adventures at a later date.

Thats all just my opinion though, hope it helps in some way.

The Forgotten Realms Campaign guide (large hardback) has a starting adventure which could last you a couple of sessions and then further hooks for you to develop yourself.

The Forgotten Kingdoms book (paperback handbook) is a players booklet detailing further race and class options for the Essentials range.

The adventure in the campaign guide is a starting one so 1st level with enough hooks to other parts to get a party to 2nd.

Other published FR stuff include the scepter tower of spellgard (also set for 1st to 3rd level).

www.livingforgottenrealms.com/ is the page for the Living FR adventures which range from 1st level upwards and many can be linked into a full campaign.

Most of the Encounters series have taken place in the Realms but getting hold of them outside of running the WPN program would prove difficult.

There have also been several Realms based articles and adventures in the Dungeon and Dragon magazines (available to download through your DDI subscription) including a couple that advise how to convert the H-series (Keep on shadowfell etc) to use in the Realms.

Hope this is helpful.

I believe (though I could be wrong) that it refers to the range of levels characters can reach throughout the adventure (though in the case of the Living Forgotten Realms they usually include different sets of stats for use with the different levels of the party)
