In this thread, I will be discussing Power souces, and how it fits into the lore of the world.
Divine Power: A character that wields divine power has simply unlocked his spiritual potential as a being through his beliefs and communed with cosmic energy and the power of divine or the profane; By releasing that which binds and weighs down his soul, he can take on the personage and power of a god.
Some people and cultures call this "Finding one's calling" or "Releasing his Chakras". A character who uses divine powers may not be good; he has simply become a channel for greater power, and that just might be a profane power.
This makes characters like "Anti-Paladins" more viable as a player character or NPC.
TL; DR, this is the equivalent of the "Ki" Power sources.
The Shadow Power source also falls under divine, but is seperate and distinct from radiant or infernal powersources. They are a channel of that the powers of Purgatory, who use the powers of the shadow, not those of infernal origin, to enforce the will of fate and mete out justice to those who defy death.
Arcane Power: A character that uses arcane magic is simply an individual who can manipulate matter of the universe far beyond simple mundane uses; energy or matter cannot be created or destroyed; only converted to other forms: The ones who manipulate it actively through the powers of concentration are known as magic users. By using reagents and a focus, these spellcasters can manipulate the nature of something, and change matter into another form of matter by using the four fundamental forces of the universe.
Primal Power: A character who uses primal power has been blessed by or communed with the spirits of the fey wild, who are both present in the physical realm and that of the road of dreams and give them both power and prescience to wield the might of unrestrained natural power. By using words of creation, the true speak, one can commune and command the nature of elements, by changing or bending it to its will.
Psionic Power: Some state that mortal beings only use a fraction of their brain's power. This might or might not be true, but those who utilize the power of Psionics know otherwise. Through sheer force of will, charisma and discipline, they use their brains potential to become prescient, and to bend the very reality around them. This is sometimes mistaken as "Divine power" but do not be fooled. It is simply a being who has unlocked the potential of the greatest computer in the world: The Mortal Brain.
Martial Power: A character that uses Martial power is no mere mortal. They are no common solider or guard- they are the paragon of both discipline, practice and strength. They are the best of the best, and should be treated as such. Through the sheer force of will and strength of their body, the martial character becomes a living weapon who can turn even a simple steel blade into something of legends.
